Santonio Holmes Can Catch The Ball (1 Viewer)

From RotoWorld:

Santonio Holmes hasn't dropped a pass all season.

We probably just jinxed him, but the first-round pick has been hot of late, with nine catches and 171 yards in his past three games. Holmes could overtake starter Cedrick Wilson during the second half of the season.

Now we just need him to catch a punt every now and then. I do think Holmes is coming along nicely and expect his role to grow.

Yes and YesThe punt thing leaves me  The Steelers have a quite a potential WR corps brewing. Dont forget about Willie Reid. We could have quite a passing O if Whisenhunt takes over next year and they take the shackles off of Ben like they in the playoffs last year (well, except the SB)

With 22 targets, it's hardly thread-worthy.
It is if you're interested in targeting players whose values may be on the rise. Holmes, in my opinion, is such a player. So I'd rather be a week or two ahead of time with any evaluations than a week or two late.

His role is definitely getting bigger as evidenced by his last few weeks, and he's already a better WR than anyone the Steelers have but Ward. He HAS shown good hands and pretty good speed too... at least as a receiver. :wall: I just got him in a dynasty league... traded Thomas Jones and Mike Clayton for Addai and Holmes... a little rebuilding to do. I expect him to be Ben's #2 target very soon if he's not already, and he very well might have what it takes to replace Ward as the Steelers' go to guy in a few years.

Grabbed him off of the wire last week.

I think he could be a solid #3WR by play off time.

If you've got room on your bench, he has a lot of upside.

As a Buckeye fan... Santonio Holmes did not have a drop his final season and had 1 one the previous year.

Yes, he can catch the ball. I thought he would have made a bigger impact by now but no doubt, with time. He is a baller. He is a much better WR than previous Buckeye Michael Jenkins. I know Jenkins isn't lighting the NFL up but just trying to point out Holmes' downside is pretty high.

Holmes is a speed demon and has great hands, but will struggle with the mental part of the game and has a questionable work ethic. If Cowher can get his head in the right place, gets him running crisp routes, gets him to block and gets him to work as hard as he parties, then he could be a great pick-up. But I doubt all that happens even by playoff time next year. My guess is that we see flashes for a couple years and then year 3 is his boom/bust year.

It is cause the offense is clicking (he had 90 yards last week) and he is slowly taking the starting WR role from Wilson. Holmes will be a nice spot start by seasons end when he is the starter. And besides dropping a punt......he was a shoestring from scoring on a kick return.

What is the definition of what constitutes a "drop"? Is it when the receiver touches the ball but doesn't catch it? Or is it like a judgement call like an error in baseball?

Judgment call in many cases. Last week in the Packers-Dolphins game, for example, the Dolphins were credited with 6 drops and I would've given their receivers more than that. There are the obvious ones but oftentimes it comes down to a judgment call with some people being more lenient than others.

There was an blurb in Fantasy Football Prospectus about this that the scorers for 1 NFL team were famous for not reporting drops. I think it was Philly if I remember right.

So much for that stat. His first drop of the season was a pretty big one too.
That wasn't a drop
I would've called that a drop if I was the scorekeeper but I'm a tough grader. :DIn any event this was another game where Holmes made an impact. He was shut out in the first half but then had 43 yards receiving in the second half. That's three straight games with over 40 yards receiving. He's inching his way toward having WR3 status in larger leagues in my opinion. I think he's a good guy to grab now because he's trending in the right direction and this year's Steelers are throwing the ball much more than they did last season.

I don't think it's by design. I'm confident Bus or no Bus, Cowher still wants to pound the rock. The INTs are killing them though and they have to pass more than they'd like. Well, IMO

I agree. I don't think it's by design either. But it doesn't look like anything's going to change anytime soon. That could open the door for Holmes to become a decent WR3 in the second half of the season. He's definitely getting more involved and making an impact so given his talent plus the Steelers throwing more this season and that bodes well for future productivity in my opinion.
