Thanks. I appreciate your time.

Santonio Holmes-WR- Steelers Dec. 5 - 6:35 pm et

Santonio Holmes is not on the Steelers' Week 14 injury report.

They'll need him Sunday against the Patriots. Holmes is a solid WR3 play in the matchup, and should mostly go against Ellis Hobbs with Asante Samuel on Hines Ward. Nate Washington resumes being a third receiver, giving coordinator Bruce Arians the option of spreading out New England's defens

I don't have a link to anything credible, but reading on a stillers homer board that Holmes is still having pain when he tries to cut on his bad ankle. Looks like he's going to play but I don't think he's 100%. FWIW.

Holmes, Polamalu expected to start

Rotoworld.com - 23 hours ago

Santonio Holmes (ankle), Troy Polamalu (knee) and T Marvel Smith (back) practiced fully on Wednesday and all "should" start in Week 14. ...

I'm taking the approach with him I did with Coles. Until I see him play in a game back...I won't be starting him. Coles wasn't in my lineup last week but will be starting this week after looking decent his 1st game back. Rice gets the start over Holmes for me this week.

So you are posting a Wednesday update after Polamalu was reported as not practicing on Thursday? I know you are more concerned with Holmes but I am curious as to Polamalu's status.

I would be more willing to take a chance on Holmes after seeing guys like Devard Darling and Greg Lewis get behind the Patriots safeties.

They are reporting on local radio (ESPN) that it doesn't look good for Polamalu to play....FWIW

:goodposting: I'm usually a "play it safe" guy when it comes to guys just coming back from injury. But this seems like a pretty juicy matchup if Holmes plays...
Meriweather was actually well behind Darling on his big catch but played it horribly and didn't make the tackle.

I'll be honest: I don't care how the defenders misplay it, as long as they misplay it. :lmao:

Holmes said he was in a lot of pain Friday morning and almost didn't practice. But, he added, "You don't practice on Friday, you don't play. Right now they've got me penciled in (to play) but it's still a game-time decision."

Start Holmes CAUTIOUSLY...

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Steelers safety Troy Polamalu is likely to miss Pittsburgh's game Sunday at New England after sitting out practice for the second day in a row Friday because of a sprained knee.

Polamalu, who has missed the Steelers' last two games, aggravated the injury during practice Wednesday and has been unable to practice since.

Polamalu, a Pro Bowl safety the last three seasons and the team's highest-paid player, injured the knee Nov. 18 against the New York Jets. He is not having a big year statistically -- he doesn't have a sack or an interception -- but his versatility is a key to Pittsburgh's zone blitz defense.

The Steelers almost never allow players to play in a game when they are physically unable to practice on Friday -- one reason why wide receiver Santonio Holmes struggled through the team's workout on a sprained right ankle.

Holmes, also out for two games, continues to have pain in the ankle and was urged earlier this week to sit out another game. Holmes said the game against New England (12-0) is too important to the Steelers (9-3) to miss and he plans to play.

Holmes has averaged 17 yards per reception on 39 catches. He leads the Steelers with seven touchdown catches.

FWIW I am benching Holmes (in favor of Owens, Driver, Henry).

I'm leavin him out (along with Javon Walker) and going with Andre Johnson, Steve Smith and Derrick Mason...its the playoffs, lets hope its the right move.

But suppose (and this is just a what if scenario, it's not like its something that's actually happening to anyone I know) you only had Santonio and Calvin Johnson as your choices and you were forced to start one of them?

Now if this were a serious WDIS question it would obviously not belong here, but since we're just talking make-believe what if scenarios, I'd be mildly interested to know what others might do in this situation...

Calvin - with the reports of Holmes ankle still being tender, A talented starting WR like Calvin on a pass first team is too good to leave on the bench.

If I'm not mistaken, it is unwritten Steeler policy that if you can't practice on Friday, you don't play on Sunday. I look at it this way. Holmes gutted his way through practice on Friday, to give himself the chance to play on Sunday. They will probably test his ankle before the game on Sunday and see how he feels. Since the game is at 4, we probably won't know anything until then. If your line-up is due before the early games, you have to guess or go with someone else.

You are correct...Needles are goooooooooood

I think it's pretty safe to say that with the playoffs on the line the best place for Holmes is on your bench barring a solid early report tomorrow morning.

 PS - Calvin.

I bet that is what you think...
Well, I own him. But, I won't start him in my playoff game unless Morty, Clayton, or even Glazer say that he is a virtual lock to start, which is unlikely at this point seeing that he's playing at 4:15. Too risky my man. Should be a good game though Sheriff :excited:

I have a question. How can he be a GTD and not even be on the injury report? Isn't that a violation of the rules or something?

Looking forward to this litmus test for the Steelers :boxing:

Fellas who own Holmes, Ive just gotta chime in. I really didnt want to speculate about Holmes' condition because I didnt want to seem like I was just hoping he wouldnt be able to go this week, but if that guy's really coming off a high ankle sprain, and he's only missed 2 games to this point, youre really playing with fire starting him this week. That' an injury that keeps guys out normally up to a month. minimum. and Im sure if they were playing some other team besides NE, he wouldnt even be thinking about playing. And Im sure the kid wants nothing more than to give it a go and compete against the Pats, but I really doubt he's going to either play or contribute much. Im actually hoping he plays, because then it'll just be one less healthy player on the field for the Steelers, but if the kid's been practicing in pain all week, then he's really not doing that team any good out there. good luck with it either way.

Holmes owner here - Rationally speaking  with a 2 game lead over Cleveland, 4 games left and having swept the Browns I cant see alot of reason why the Steelers play Holmes this week. He would make a good decoy but struggling to get thru the Friday practice if that is true just doesnt make sense for a "litmus" test of a game for the Steelers. The playoffs are how you are judged and if this was a playoff game I see Holmes and a better chance Polamalu plays.

Having the Patriots think he is going to play is good strategdy with his speed they have to be concerned w/more than just a possesion receiver in Ward. Also be sure to bet after FWP's fumbles they will be spending alot of time practicing stripping the ball carrier.

Brief aside:

The Steelers seem to be taking this game more seriously than the Colts vs. Pats or Packers vs. Cowboys; unlike the Colts and Packers, they seem to be rushing their stars back. A little strange when you consider that they are a long-shot for a bye even if they do win. Sounds like the Steelers really, really want a win tomorrow.

As for fantasy, Holmes seems like a pretty risky play. Aside from the risk of not playing (or not playing well due to injury), he is playing against a good pass defense in inclement weather. Moreover we all expect Pittsburgh to pound the ball. This seems like a Ward / Parker kind of game. If you have a consistent top 30 WR, I'd go with him over Holmes.

Holmes is on my bench...I'll be plugging in a healthy James Jones.

I could get burned, but, seems risky to me starting Holmes.

The bottom line here is that Holmes is not healthy and limped through a practice. How effective can he be even if he does play. My money is on he does not even dress.

I don't understand why the Steelers would risk further injury to Holmes. Winning this game would pretty much seal up the division but the Steelers are sitting pretty even with a loss. If Holmes aggravates the injury he could potentially miss the playoffs and that is when they really need him.

I expect him to sit unless he has a very speedy recovery.

I doubt he cares. I mean if Devard Darling and Greg Lewis can toast NE, I'm sure Pitts can cover for an absent Holmes with a WR5

Im pretty sure he cares, but youre probably right. NE will get burned by Cedric Wilson or Nate Washington all day instead. Bunch of old cheaters.

I love the Darling/Lewis references. It sure does make for a juicy misconception. I am a homer, but a realist. Our defense certainly has it's vulnerabilities but come on.

...like?
Like: the Patriots are coming off of back-to-back near-losses to struggling teams with weak receiving corps and mediocre backup QB's.Never happened. It's a myth.

These are not the droids you're looking for.
