Santonio Holmes likely to start this week (1 Viewer)

Nice spot play in the FF playoffs. The Panthers DBs are hurting and the Steelers can't run on the road.

Injury updates

Cowher listed strong safety Troy Polamalu as doubtful and wide receiver Hines Ward as questionable on his injury report.

Both players missed the past two games with knee injuries -- Polamalu had a second-degree MCL sprain and Ward arthroscopic surgery.

Two other players are doubtful -- safety Mike Logan (hamstring) and wide receiver Cedrick Wilson (high ankle sprain). Free safety Ryan Clark (groin) is questionable and center Jeff Hartings (knee) is probable.

"Obviously, we'll see how much they practice before we make any decisions [on] how much or if they will play," Cowher said. "There's a lot left to be decided upon as the week unfolds."

About those roles ...

Santonio Holmes and not Nate Washington would start at wide receiver Sunday if Wilson cannot play.

"If Hines is able to come back, then Nate would go back into his role as the third receiver," Cowher said.

The reason for that is Wilson is the split end, and Holmes is his backup. Ward plays flanker, and Washington is his backup in addition to his role as No. 3 receiver.

The Steelers inability to run on the road is inlarge part due to the teams they have played on the road: JAX, SD, ATL, OAK, CLV, BAL.

No doubt, and Carolina's front four is as stout as any.
Thanks for the heads up, guys. I have Holmes, and I am looking for a 2nd receiver this week. It's gonna be Holmes or Henry or Bruce or M-Rob. Might have to flip a coin several times. ;) The question is, if Weinke starts again, can Carolina put up enough points to make PITT throw?

I think they are gonna throw regardless.....did you see the scrub whodat? CB in the Giants game?? I can't even recall his name and I was there. Lucas and Gamble did not play last week. If they are out this week, Santonio has the potential to get lots of passes thrown his way. The scrub will be on Santonio and Hines gets a rookie CB(Richard Marshall) who is the best healthy CB the Panthers have.....

I still think Fast Willie will get his too.
