Oujia sucks donkey bells. It will not only Not scare your youngn' but it will make you want to punch every stoopid teenager alive just to make up for watching the idiots prancing around in this movie. In all seriousness, I think what I would go for in your situation would be older movies - 80s or so. There are some good pg-13 recommendations from that era that have been listed in here. There would still be some tension and maybe a jump scare or two, but I think the effects would be cheesy enough that he could laugh them off. That is why I nominated the two I did - I remember watching The Gate around that age. I think Arachnophobia, Gremlins, Poltergeist, Tremors and the like would also be good choices.
If that idea doesn't fly with him and he wants newer stuff, there are still a lot of pg-13 movies to choose from: The Sixth Sense, The Ring/Grudge/Eye, Drag Me to Hell has comedy to offset the scares, and new stuff like Oujia is pg-13.
I know I am more of a prude with movies than others here, but I wouldn't touch an R movie until I tested the waters a bit with several pg-13 movies.
PG-13 barely existed for half of the 80s. Gremlins and Poltergeist are both PG.In all seriousness, I think what I would go for in your situation would be older movies - 80s or so. Fun Fact: Red Dawn was the first PG-13 movie.
i dont think many of those types of movies are good horror movies. Was trying to think of starter movies for a 10 year old, not the scariest movies ever.Oujia sucks donkey bells. I hear ya, but not only is it not scary, it just flat out sucks. Like in Matrix sequels sucks only without the big budget. I'm guessing some producers kid got daddy to green light his pet project.i dont think many of those types of movies are good horror movies. The Monster Squad (1987)
A young group of monster fanatics attempt to save their hometown from Count Dracula and his army of monsters.

Creepshow is a good oneCreepshow
How old is she, and what movies does she consider scary? This is easily the hardest genre to recommend to people, especially kids in the H.S. range.Problem with older movies is that they did not stand the test of time very well. My daughter has watched some old scary movies and each time she usually says things like, "How was this considered scary? It looks so fake." Kind of how I feel when I watch The Blob or something from the 60's that's supposed to be scary.
On second thought, this might be too scary.Jurassic Park!
Killer Klowns from Outer Space: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xlsrc8_killer-klowns-from-outer-space_shortfilmsGood oneThe original Poltergeist is still pretty good for that age.
Will make the kid terrified of clowns though

She's 11. We watched Poltergeist, which I thought was really scary as a kid, and she thought it was dumb. Jaws was boring to her, and we watched that down the Shore. How old is she, and what movies does she consider scary? We are talking about a 10 year old, so I assume looking fake is good. Don't think the goal is to give him nightmares for a month.
