Schaub and Rosenfels (1 Viewer)

Rosenfels has done as well as Schaub has and since coming to HOuston last year has put played very well. I have two questions:

1) Does anyone know Rosenfels contract situation? Could he land an opportunity to compete for a starting job somewhere else next year?

2) Schaub has played well but appears unable to stay healthy; could Rosenfels eventually compete with him in Houston?

Kubiac appears willing to play the best player and doesn't seem to worry about pecking order or status when making lineup decisions.

I am wondering if Rosenfels isn't a bad sleeper in deep dynasty leagues. There was a discussion in the Dynasty Ranking thread about dynasty QBs and Beck and one issue that came up is how unlikely it is for ANY rookie QB to become a good fantasy QB. One poster suggested it makes more sense to pick up guys who have been on the bench for a while and who are ready to step up but who have been overlooked as they have a better chance to succeed. Just wondering if a guy like Rosenfels doesn't fit that description given how effectively he has played. What other QBs who are not starting right now fit that description and are likely sitting on your waiver wire waiting to be plucked BEFORE they get signed to a starting gig somewhere next year?

sage has been around the league for a few years now. i don't think he's sneaking up on anyone. his value is to the texans, where he has proven to be effective when given the chance to step up in schaub's absence. if he is a free agent at the end of the season, i bet the texans will make a move to keep him as an insurance policy.

I don't... he may be worth holding unto during the Off-season. Sage has been decent when he played for the Fins as well... theres a lot of teams that have QB needs. No team is going to hand Sage a starting Gig... but any # of teams may out bid the Texans to bring in Sage and compete / push for their starter. As long as hes in Hou... he will never be given a shot. Now look at the teams that are hurting at QB.Mai / SF / Jets (Clemens not looking so good) / Atl / KC / Bal / Car / Chi / Phi (if McNabb is Traded) / Det (kitna old, Stanton ??) / TBSome of those are Good teams... Car and TB would be great fits for a so so journeyman QB to find a home for a few yrs and be mildly successful. Sage is going to be 29 next yr and has a chance to make a few bucks this offseason.

i don't disagree with the premise. there are a number of teams that will need a QB in the off-season. however, he's proven his value to Houston. i think he stays because an effective back-up - especially when your starter has problems staying healthy - is worth a lot. they will pay to keep him around.

After going into all this... it turns out hes not an FA until 2010. Who knows... maybe he get moved in the off-season then.

Rosenfels should be starting in the NFL. When you see hacks like Boller and Carr getting chance after chance and sucking everytime, you have to wonder about the football IQ of who is calling the shots.

I have nick-named Rosenfels, "The Closer", because he plays very well coming off the bench and very few QB do well in that situation. Since Schaub gets injuried so often, he is too valuable to Houston to trade.

I have Sage in a start 2qb dynasty sitting on my bench. With his contract, I don't expect him to be moving anywhere. However, Schaub certainly hasn't been a model of health. Mayhaps one of these injuries the Schaub owner will come asking for him.

I don't expect Rosenfels to take over though... when it comes down to it, he is 1-4 as a starter and Schaub is 5-2.

Sage is an above average backup but not a solid starter. I describe him as the constant tease as he does enough to keep you close but often makes mistakes that will kill you. People will talk about his almost 4th quarter comeback when he threw 4 TD's in the 4th quarter against the Titans in week 7, but forget that he also threw 3 INT's and had a lost fumble that game.

He had 2 lost fumbles in HOU territory in yesterday's game as well, but the rest of the team was able to overcome it.

To be a fair comparison, Boller & Carr were both backups this year before the starter went down. As was Joey Harrington before Vick was arrested.

Rosenfels is in the second season of a 4 year, $7 million dollar deal with the Texans. So he has 2 more years with the Texans, and given Schaub's fragility, I doubt they'll be giving him up.

As a long term starter I think he would smell very AJ Feely/Kelly Holcolmbe like, the more he plays the more his weekness are exposed. If someone wants to give the Texans a high 2nd rounder or more as the Dolphins did with Feely, then no problem trading him. Otherwise like most good back-ups he has more value to the Texans than on the trade market.

Given that he is under contract through 2010 and given that he is not likely to be given a chance to unseat Schaub no matter how well he plays, it seems like his value is limited to a Schaub owner in deep leagues.

Fisher praised his accuracy after each game. After the first I was looking for it and he is extremely accurate. Mistakes for an inexperienced QB are common, finding a QB as accurate isn't.
