Scoring (1 Viewer)

For the 1st time the scoring in my league seemed perfect last year. Here are the rules with why:

Passing -

1 point for 20 yards passing

6 points for passing TD's - QB's score the most in the league bringing their value up with the RB's

1 point for big plays 20+ - Slight penalty for the dink and dunkers

-4 for interceptions - With 6 points for TD's and -4 for picks your QB's day is very important to your team.

-1 for sacks - QB's are the #1 reason for a sack. Just watch how many sacks David Carr racks up next time he plays.

2 point bonus for 300/400/500 yards passing

Rushing

1 point for 10 yards rushing

1 point for a big play 20+

2 points for 100 / 150/ 200

Receiving

1 point for 10 yards receiving

2 point bonus for 100/200/300

1 ppr

1 point for a big play 20+ - the big play bonus for RB's and WR's evens out those dump off passes for no gain. Wes Welker, Randy Moss and Chris Johnson are all valuable with this format.

All positions

-4 fumbles lost - big penalties for turnovers really gives you the same feeling as watching your real team.

K

1 point for extra points

3 points for field goals

4 points for 40+

5 points for 50+

-1 missed extra point

-3 missed field goal (less than 40 yards)

Special Teams

6 points for TD's

1 point for 10 punt return yards - The return yards don't make a huge differnce but are really nice if you have Wes Welker, DeSean Jackson or Reggie Bush.

1 point for 20 kick return yards

IDP

1 point for every 2 assisted tackles

1 point per tackle - most leagues use 2 points for tackle but then you have to start boring tackle machines at every position. 1 point for tackles and 4 points for big plays is much better. Patrick Willis, DeMarcus Ware, Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed and Jared Allen are all important in this system.

2 points for forced fumbles or fumble recoveries

2 points for pass defensed

4 points for interceptions

4 points for sacks

1 point for 20 yards returning a pick or fumble.

Overall with IDP you just have to accept they are not going to score as much as offense. They are valuable starters in a close match up.

* I'm thinking about adding a huge bonus (10 points for breaking an all time passing, rushing or receiving record)

What do you guys think? Is this the perfect scoring system?

i think sacks should be 6 or 10 as they're like TD's for offensive players.

same with int's as they show how good of a CB/S really is.

just my 2 cents

I don't think rules involving bonus categories are optimum. For instance, what is so much better about a QB throwing for 401 yards vs 399 yards on a given Sunday? Either way the QB had a productive day most likely, why give a big bonus for two yards? I feel the players should get awarded for what they produce and not inflate their stats because they surpassed a silly rounded #. I don't have any problems with the rest of your rules. I hope your team gets beat consistently by small margins & your opponents are barely surpassing the bonus minimums...perhaps that will help you see the light.

Agreed. Hate the bonuses.

Dislike PPR too, skews value too much in favor of mediocre players sho catch short passes.

And the ratio of TD to INT is senseless to me.

How about:

QB: .075/yard passing, .10/yard russing, 6 pts TD, -1.5 INT

RB: .10/yard rushing and receiving, 6/TD

WR: .125/yard receiving and rushing, 7.5/TD

TE: .15/yard receiving and rushing, 9/TD

Works much better.

We tried better scoring for big plays a few years ago. We gave 11 points for sacks or INT's and 2 points for tackles. At the end of the season the IDP's scored about the same as the offense. The big problem was defensive players get points in bunches. Osi Umenyiora and James Harrison had 70 point games during the season. It looked pretty ridiculous and was kind of embarrassing as commissioner.

I think the rules should be easy to explain. Those rules are for an accounting or engineer work league.

I pretty much agree with you. When you are watching the game and your player passes 100 yards rushing/receiving or 300 yards passing it is pretty much a non event. This rule is in place because of popular demand from the owners. The 2 point bonus is pretty low and most of what is talked about on the post game shows is about who broke 100 or 300. In a related note we used to have 1 point for a rushing or receiving 1st down and 1 point for every 2 passing 1st downs instead of 10 yards rushing etc. This system was awesome when you were watching the game and rooting for your guys to get a 1st down. The points were about the same at the end of the year as yardage. We had to get rid of it because it was too hard for owners to get rankings. Also if they saw stats at an airport or something they couldn't figure out their score.

First, the OP's rules are much more complex.Second, who needs to explain? Was 4 lines of text that are read. Apparently, numbers are not your friend. ;)

Do we want a simple tax code or a fair one? Ideally both, but if I had to choose I will take a fair one and LET THE COMPUTER DO THE MATH.
