Yes, it was awful. But she was young and obviously misguided. How can you feel bad for someone who did this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R21LeB9ihREI do feel bad for that young girl who sang that night.
I can say that your reputation has been supported many times by your actions and still agree that your actions can potentially be amplified by your reputation. But keep throwing it against the wall, eventually some of it will stick. So, you agree that you are representing this as truth, but are not sure because you really don't know what you're talking about. Cross to bear? This has nothing to do with me other than to tell you that you know little about this. The one thing about Philly fans that people tend to forget, we love our teams and nothing will change that. To a fault we live and die with our teams, but most would not want it any other way.Yes.You're right. You have uncovered my carefully crafted plan that I have meticulously carried out over the past four decades to create a false image about the fans in Philadelphia. My master plan has been ruined.Santa.And the issue is you are accepting something as belief because you were not around when it snowballed into something it really isn't. The sameway some people are getting on Seattle fans for individual incidents and characterizing the whole. You have to be more specific Santa or Schmidt?Seriously, do you know why he was booed? Come on, show all of us how much you know.
I have no idea what you mean by this.I love how some of you think I am making an indictment of the whole city of Philadelphia, instead of merely recounting a widely cultivated and oft substantiated belief. You can't make the arguement if you are willing to live by it.
Who says this media branded image of Philly fans is a belief? Who told you to take it as so? What facts do you have that make you feel so comfortable you are willing to accept this image as law? What makes you think it so widely accepted as law that it needs not be supported, simply stated?
So, do you have an opinion of your own, or are simply hiding behind the media sensationalized incidents as a blind characterization of the whole?
You are asking people to bring the meat to the table to support their arguements, I'm asking for yours.
I recognize that Philly fans do not have exclusive province over boorish behavior. How many times must I reiterate that?
It may have been created by a legend of a guy in a Santa suit, and there is no supporting evidence the poor kid was drunk, but don't deny that it is a reputation that has been embraced by locals and reinforced by actions over the years. It is likely that successive incidents are blown out of proportion because of reputation but so what? It's your cross to bear, so deal with it. And FWIW the Irvin incident was perhaps the worst thing I have ever seen in 30+ years of watching sports, and I absolutely despised those Cowboys teams.
Once again let me say that I have nothing against Philadelphia, their sports teams or their fans.
Booing that girl was bad, cheering for Couch's injury was bad (although he wasn't taken out on a stretcher, in a neck brace and not moving). Pointing out instances of fans acting poorly doesn't really impact what other fans have done.Once again I say that Philly fans are not alone for terrible behavior, why can't one of you at least acknowledge that Philly fans reputation might have a basis in reality and might not just be fabricated by the media. And that's drastically different from Dallas fans booing the Anthem? I'm willing to bet none of us were actually at Franklin Field back in '65....so maybe this "Santa" deserved it as well? All I'm saying is maybe that stupid santa bit has run its course. But every time I see or hear it brought up I'm certainly going to mention the Dallas Anthem. Just like I bring up Cleveland fans cheering their own injured player whenever I hear about Irvin at the Vet.There is nothing to support the story that he was drunk. He was a skinny 19 year old kid who showed up to the game in the Santa suit and he was pulled out of the stands and asked to perform in the halftime show when the original Santa didn't show.ok. If I am reading this correctly, Philly fans didn't boo Santa Claus. They booed a drunk guy who made a poor representation of Santa. They didn't boo the national anthem. They boo'd the performance. The singer butchered it.I would equate Eagles fans booing Santa with Dallas fans booing the National Anthem. If people want to defend Dallas fans because it was deserved but continue to bring up a 40 year old incident involving a drunk fan, then they really don't know what they're talking about.
Twenty years from now I'll be sure to remind people that Dallas fans booed our National Anthem. It will be about as relevant as Santa.
Which is worse, booing a bad "Santa" or a poor rendition of our Anthem?

Which is worse, booing a bad "Santa" or a poor rendition of our Anthem? My seats are right in front of the section where they give tickets to the visiting teams for their friends and family. For the most part, fans of other teams are real friendly. Chicago Bears fans were a little stuck up and Patriots fans were certainly an entitled bunch last year. You get a real S talker from other cities from time to time, but nowhere near as bad as people from Philly. They are consistently the rudest of the bunch. Skins and Cowboys fans COMBINED are not as mean-spirited and looking for fights as much as Philly fans are. I will see a dozen or so Philly fans ejected every season, and not see that many fans ejected the rest of the year in the other 7 games.
I will say that since the Linc opened, they are behaving themselves a little better down there. Some of the best fights I've ever been in were in the parking lot of the old Vet...before the game.
Who's throwing something against the wall and trying to make it stick now? You've already admitted that you don't truly know what your talking about and may have allowed your judgements to be shaped by the media. I am interested in knowing what angelic fanbase you belong to.Chaka said:Booing that girl was bad, cheering for Couch's injury was bad (although he wasn't taken out on a stretcher, in a neck brace and not moving). Really? I thought I presented multiple supporting examples of Philly fans acting like clods while acknowledging that their reputation enhances each instance while pointing out that fans of other teams also act like clods. Apparently I did not.As much as I want to continue this interesting and compelling thread with you I fear I have to beg off because I fear that you are infecting me with some mutant strain of the crazies.Who's throwing something against the wall and trying to make it stick now? Horrible, but I'm in the camp that thinks the anthem should only be used for the olympics. Not sure why EVERY sporting event needs it to be played beforehand...doesn't make any sense...it's friggin sports for crying out loud...How can you feel bad for someone who did this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R21LeB9ihREI do feel bad for that young girl who sang that night.
hold up - her singing was downright soulful. she did a great job. a comment under the video said that fans were booing the eagles running onto the field. but shouldn't they have been on the field already?Horrible, but I'm in the camp that thinks the anthem should only be used for the olympics.
