Seahawks TE Stevens re-injures knee, MRI planned

Written by: Mike Sando ¦ 8/17/2006

TE Jerramy Stevens was scheduled to undergo an MRI exam today after re-injuring his surgically repaired knee. Stevens was carted off the field during the morning practice, which has now ended. He appeared to bang the knee on the ground on a pass play. The Seahawks should have MRI results this afternoon.

Damn....my TE stable of KW2 , Marcedes Lewis, and Stevens are a injury risk if I ever saw one.. !!!!!! I dont need headaches from my TE's !!

I'm guessing it's a banged up patellar tendon. Hopefully he just need some minor adjustments and be fine. As a Seahawks fan I consider Stevens one of the better offensive weapons given the way the offense is set up. He is an integral part of the unit.

CHENEY, Wash. (AP) -Seattle Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens injured his left knee Thursday during practice.

Coach Mike Holmgren said Stevens fell on the knee during a team drill. Stevens walked off the field, was examined by trainers and was taken to the locker room in on a cart. He was expected to have an MRI later Thursday.

``It was the same knee he had surgery on, so we're a little apprehensive,'' Holmgren said of Stevens' knee operation on April 25.

He emerged last season as a favorite target of quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on third downs and near the goal line. He had career highs of 45 receptions and five touchdowns.

Stevens engaged in verbal sparring with Pittsburgh linebacker Joey Porter the week of the Super Bowl. He then struggled against the Steelers, dropping three passes during the Seahawks 21-10 loss.

Stevens was Seattle's first-round draft choice in 2002.

 Agreed! A huge target. I was hoping he'd be the Hawks red zone target now that JoeJ is gone. Mili should be back this year, so that should help a bit if Stevens is sidelined for any length of time.

Patella is a tendon that has a great deal of elasticity. I had part of mine removed for ACL surgery and it is pretty easy to work back into shape through "adjustments."

I agree. Unless Stevens was a huge part of the blocking game, I could see this as a boon for SA. Hopefully they have an adequate blocking TE to replace Stevans.

Hope we hear MRI results quickly. I have until Saturday to drop him and bring up Dallas Clark on my keeper roster (and was considering it anyway).

Not if it hasn't healed completely, it isn't. Just ask Jerry Rice.

Bump up DJax (he is gonna be back this week to practice), Burleson, and most importantly Shaun Alexander in the red zone again

Wow, all of a sudden my draft isn't looking so good.

Six weeks would put his return at September 28th, week 4 of the NFL Season. And Seattle has a bye week in week 5. So I am guessing we won't see him until week 6 @ St. Louis.

I guess I will have to sit on him and pray that he comes back healthy. Definitely too risky to drop him now.

One of the myriad reason I like a draft later in the preseason. This sucks but at least Mili is a capable backup.
