Sean Jones? (1 Viewer)

I watched the game Thursday night (Browns vs. Broncos) and I have Sean Jones in my fantasy league, so I was paying particular attention to him during the game. It seemed to me like he was playing further back than a SS normally does and that Brodney Pool was playing closer up. Did Pool become the SS and Jones the FS? Because I thought orginally that Jones was the SS.

I wasn't watching it close, but noticed this also. Everyone interchanges their safeties, maybe this was just something in their gameplan. We'll see what goes this week.

If there were a lot of 2 TE sets...Pool could have been closer to line to cover TE. DEN also didn't have a serious running attack, so maybe they wanted him back to punish WR's.

Unless Jones is telling stories about his knee (and why would he?), what possible future good comes from rotating Mike Adams and Nick Sorenson in? Must be something more here.

I agree Jene, perhaps it has something to do with Jones contract situation. :potkettle:

Jones, who's in his final year of his contract, was hoping to sign a lucrative deal in the off-season. He said during camp that his first choice was to return to the Browns, but at that time, it appeared they might not be able to afford him.

Safeties who had similar statistics to Jones over the last two years have been hitting paydirt, including former Giants safety Gibril Wilson, who signed for more than $6 million a year with the Raiders. On the first day of free agency, he inked a blockbuster six-year deal worth $39 million, including about $16 million guaranteed.

What's more, Jones, who's making $2.145 million this season, has better numbers than Wilson over the past two seasons. Jones has five interceptions and more than 100 tackles in each of his past two years as a starter, while Wilson, coming off a Super Bowl victory, had 92 tackles and four picks for the Giants last season and 100 tackles and two interceptions in 2006.

Browns safety Sean Jones upset by reduced time and reports of bad knee

Anybody thinking of dropping Sean Jones if he has an abysmal game tomorrow?

I think he'll still be a productive player, but if they take him off the field for too long, he may just become an average IDP option.

Did Jones get injured????

I know they were rotating, but he hasn't been in on the last three defensive series. What's up with that?

He apparently aggravated the knee he said wasn't bothering him at some point in the first half. Each safety was rotating out once every three series prior to that.

Browns SS Sean Jones left with an ankle injury late in the first half.

Jones was not on the field to start the second half and there was no immediate indication if he would return. Earlier in the season Jones was sidelined with a knee injury and the Browns have been bringing up back slowly. | 11/17/2008 10:41:00 PM

I need 9 pts tonight from him...
I need 18!!!
I'm up by 1 and need him to score as many as winslow does or I'm out of the playoffs.
dude, I have some bad news for you.quinn is qb......
I fully expected Winslow to have at least 6 or 7 receptions. Lost by 2 pts. Time to plan for next season. With Jones getting hurt again I wouldn't have enough DB to start next week if Sanders it out again.

Thinking of dropping him... I'll wait to see how severe the ankle injury is, but even if it's nothing, I don't know if he'll be effective if they keep up with this silly rotation.

depending on how serious the ankle injury is, jones could potentially return in week 12 and be fine. id keep an eye on this weeks practice before id drop him.

If he healthy he's still in a safety rotation.

in week 10 he racked up 7 tackles and 1 assist...if thats the rotation youre worried about ill take it in week 12 if hes healthy and his ankle is better.

btw..i live in gainesville...go gators!

Go Gators. My concern is more of what I saw Monday night. The safeties were playing deep a lot. The talk of the rotation seems to be gaining more steam and Jones only seemed to learn about it maybe a week ago. What is also concerning for me is neither Pool or Adams had solid stats with Jones out. Also his 8 tackles came against Denver. That's about as ideal of a matchup he'll see.

Found that a little weird/concerning also. Decided to HOLD in a couple leagues depending on Bramel/Nortons feedback on this as well.

I wouldn't have him projected to a 6-2...but I'm not the Guru. :) I said Beason was over-projected a couple of weeks ago and he smashed even Norton's lofty projection. I think the injury and rotation are both serious concerns. However, if Jones is not on the injury report, he was playing two of three series last week. That should be enough for him to hold value if healthy. I think I'd be looking at other options if I had them, however.

Thanks Bramel... I decided to cut bait on him after your feedback. Other options for me do seem to be pretty positive at this point, so I won't risk the injury concern... which truthfully, feels to me like a "questionable" for this weeks game anyhow.

Not questioning the "man/guru" or anything... but why aren't you him again Bramel? Personally have found your input much more up to date than norton's anyway.

Call me one of the Guru's apprentices if you like. :wall:The differences in our FBG responsibilities make it much easier for me to look a little more up-to-date. Norton is tracking down information on every defender to attempt to accurately project them both weekly and for the rest of the season. He submits an updated file once a day. Any new information he gleans doesn't see an update for nearly 24 hours. Since I have the benefit of not having to go in hibernation to generate all those projections, I have the time to feed my unhealthy obsession with posting in the Forum.

so then having jones at number 3 includes the rotational risk AND his ankle injury risk?

in other words, even though those 2 items are going against him hes still the 3rd best play for a DB/S?

can he be relied on now, with a tasty match up against the eagles?I have to decide between him or Mikell. I'm not sure how much the rotation is in affect with adams, but he seems healthy and I could use solid pts from my DB this week, however, last time i started him he burned me, the last time the browns played on monday night, by getting hurt, what to do?
