I post a really witty reply to a thread and I check back and check back and hit F5 a few times and slowly the thread drops....drops and then to page 2 and then to 3 and still Courtjester is listed as the last response in the thread.

I really have a complex about this. I mean, I'm funny. I am good at parties. I don't have any really weird hang ups. I am well versed in many subjects. And gosh darn it people like me in real life.

But here....

Walton Goggins Fan's "contributions" kill the quality of the thread, yet it seems to venture on bravely with people still posting in it despite his ramblings.I think the OP is looking for threads that simply don't get any more posts after a certain person posts in it.Combine the two, and I'd like to think that we're striving back towards that glorious day one of the FFA.

You are just looking at it the wrong way. What people could be saying is: "That last post sums up the thread perfectly, no need to add anything else."

I swear I've been meaning to look this up forever, I've just never gotten around to doing it. Maybe I'll work on it this afternoon. Of course the answer will always be in flux but I've always been curious if one or two people seem to end a disproportionate number of threads.

So I just ran a quick macro. For time/resource reasons I only pulled the first 325 pages of the FFA (16250 threads, dating back to September 2009). Here's the breakdown of posters and the number of threads they've ended in that span (I cut it off at posters with a minimum of 20 threads killed to keep the list relatively short):

What would perhaps be more interesting is to see these numbers as a percentage of each person's total posts, i.e. their "thread-killing" ratio.

I would expect a poster with a high post count would end up as the last post in threads more than others just by the sheer volume of posts.

:whew: On a gaming board I used to post to 8-9 years ago, a guy started a thread called "Testing a Theory".

He said every time he posts, a thread dies, so he wanted to test that theory.

It became a miscellaneous potpourri thread and stayed on or near the front page for years until the servers died.
