Seattle running game (1 Viewer)

Last week for the Seahawks Forsett started and had seven carries, Jones had eight carries and Washington had six. Carroll has said he will go with a similar rotation this week. Forsett had the most productive day statwise (6.1 ypc vs 2.2 for Jones and 2.0 for Washington) but I didn't see any of the game.

What's the feeling here? Is Forsett the guy to own, is it worth holding onto Jones and/or Washington? Are any of them worth rostering?

There are other threads hitting on the same topic. That being said, it is just a mess. I own Washington and holding on in the event of an injury. I am also in a 14 team league and WW choices are slim!

I'd love to know how those guys looked as well.

Specifically, I'd love to know why Julius Jones is getting the most carries of any of the backs in rotation. As a former owner who finally bailed out this pre-season, I can't wrap my head around why he's even in the game, let alone getting that many attempts.

I went back 4 pages and didn't see anything. I was hoping to get some insight on how these guys looked in last week's game.

GB,Forsett had only 2 carries thru the 1st 3 quarters of the football game. He ripped off a long run when the game was well in hand at 28-6, 31-6 with under 8:00 left to play and the Niners were in shellshock. The Niners were in control of the game early with long drives of 6:00, 6:00, and 9:00 but only cashed in on 2 FGs, then Alex Smith turned into Robin Hood at QB. Julius Jones was getting some carries in the 2nd quarter, then in the 3rd when they were ahead they experimented with Leon Washingotn but he didn't move the ball too much. The bottom line is without Forsett's bust in garbage time they were picking up about 1-2 yds a run...that OL is a mess and I wouldn't want to own any of them. If locals feel different or I didn't say things right please chime in but I studied the game and this is what I came away with. Also this is why Singletary acted like he did after the game...he knew Pete Carroll didn't really kick their butts. Cheers!

If you have to roster a Seahawk RB you want Forsett. He will gain the most yardage and catch the most passes out of the backfield. Washington will be used more for special teams and change of pace. Jones played on Sunday because nothing else was working.

I'm a huge homer, but I wouldn't even draft any Seattle RB's. (The o-line is a revolving door of crap at this point.)

Seahawk 17 is right on. Remember - Carroll loved a committee approach at USC. He is not anal like Todd Haley but it might take a while for Forsett to become the go to guy.

Homer here, I wouldn't want to own any Seahawk Rb's and so I don't. If I were to have one it would be Forsett, but he would be my Rb 5 or Rb 6 on my fantasy team. There are better options out there.

Let me break this down a little bit.First off, you say "long drives" but what you really mean is time consuming drives. The Niners really only moved the ball well on one drive the whole game, for 81 yards. The other two drives you considered "long" were 24 yards and 31 yards. The Niners had a hard time moving the ball on those two drives. So, in actuality the Niners really only controlled the clock. Seattle's offense took a bit to get going, but all things considered it is understandable. They had a LT who had only been with the team a short while, LG who really isn't anything special, and an underwhelming Locklear at RT. Add to that a new offensive scheme, young WRs (outside of branch), and you see where they might have some hiccups. The running game was a disappointment, but SF was basically daring Seattle to throw the ball all day. SF run blitzed the majority of downs, and Seattle's O-line wasn't getting a whole lot of push. But to be fair to Seattle, SF has a tremendous rushing defense, with one of the best MLB in the game. So while I think the running game in Seattle isn't anything special, they didn't commit to it, because they were moving the ball much better through the air.As for the rotation, Forsett is positively the guy to own. Jones wound up getting more carries then I thought he would, but it is partially because he in the game for Seattle's longest drive. Jones was in no way responsible for the length of the drive though, as Seattle picked up a first down on a penalty and then gained another 46 yards through the air. Washington didn't come in until the second half, and all of his carries came on one drive. So while it looks like the carries are being spread around, really what you are seeing is Carrol/Bates trying to get SOMETHING going, and no one really stepping up. Carrol will definitely sub in Jones and Washington throughout the year, but Forsett will get the first crack every time. The O-Line right now is really unsettled, Okung out another couple of weeks, Unger out for the season. But Stacy Andrews is stepping in at RG, and though he isn't great, he will be serviceable. Give the line a few weeks to settle down, and let the running game get into a rhythm. But as for the "(Singletary)...knew Carrol didn't really kick their butts" nothing could be further from the truth. Outside of one long drive, SF barely moved the ball. This was really a defensive battle, contrary to what the score says. Seattle's defense literally kicked the snot out of the Niners, and you could tell by the third quarter SF had quit. Seattle's offense was sound enough to capitalize on the good field position they were given, and also took advantage of over aggressive CBs jumping routes.

:lmao:

Good work in here so far, guys. Agree with everything that's been said in here for the most part. From what I've read and seen in the one game so far, Carroll really wants to try to find a leader amongst his backs. As has already been said, nobody has stepped up to this so far. As soon as somebody establishes themselves, you're probably still looking at a split back situation, but instead of 33/33/33/ between Forsett, Washington and Jones, you're likely going to be something more like 65/20/15 with the backs on the roster. That's just my gut feeling about this.

The problem between the back is that Justin Forsett and Leon Washington are basically slight tweaks of the same player set. Both small shifty backs who work well in space, neither that amazing between the tackles and both are decent receivers. Because of their similarities, I think that Carroll feels that he can essentially keep switching between the two until one emerges. I think that while the money is on Forsett, I think that Leon is going to get better and better the further into the season based on him recovering from that surgery. I still don't think he's 100%.

The other X factor in this whole thing? Michael Robinson. While I know that he's on the roster as a FB, I get the feeling that Carroll wants to see what this guy can do as a tailback, as well, especially in short yardage situations. While Robinson doesn't have prototypical short yardage back size, he's a good 20 or 30 pounds heavier than Forsett and Washington, and he adds the freedom of Carroll using him on a gimmick play due to his experience as a QB. Seems like Carroll has absolutely NO qualms with some more exotic stuff, much like the jailbreaks that he was running in game one.

How did Forsett look this week?
Good, especially relative to the other backs. He had one big run that was really more of a bad tackle than him breaking it, but he was finding holes and getting positive yards. Julius Jones is atrocious.Just not much chance for them to run.
