Serious Biz Dynasty - Eephus is year 18 champion - League is full for 2026 (36 Viewers)

Eephus CB draft review

added:  Zunino, Maitan, Wacha

lost:  Kyle Wright, Felix Hernandez, Gardner

Zunino was a pure need pick because of the disappearance of Yasmany Grandal.   I'd definitely do a Felix-Wacha trade in this format.  Kyle Wright looked great in limited low level ball and Maitan didn't.  But both are far from developed and TINSTAAP.  Maitan is on his third SB team before his 18th birthday which will be a hard record to break under the new rules.

All three of the poached players were 2017 pick ups so there's not a lot of lost tradition.  Championship ring awards ceremonies for Felix and Gardner will be announced at a later date.

Dropping:

Tommy Joseph

John lackey

Nick vincent

You're welcome to the teams with waiver priority 1 through 3
Pre-season drafts have made off-season waiver wire order less of a big deal.  The pool has been picked over a lot.

But @shady inc, this league has a _lot_ of FA add/drops during the season.  It's possible to add some decent talent off of players dropped by other teams but they cycle through waivers quickly so you'll need to pay attention to transactions.

Pay attention to what? I thought this was a set it and forget it until next year's CB draft

Where is the waiver order anyway? Can't find it on the site, maybe because transactions aren't open.

I know I'm not real high on it because last year I worked my way up to No. 1 and wasted it on Aaron Altherr.

After I enter the draft results, we'll have one waivers run so everybody gets a fair shot.  After that, we'll open FCFS and all hell breaks use.  Dropped players go on waivers for two days.

is the waiver thing just one round?
No.  You can make as many changes as you like/need.

I took a screen shot of the transactions settings last November before I switched to off-season mode so I'm learning from previous mistakes.

Thank you Bobby Bradley for making me burn my first overall waiver spot late in the season when I accidentally dropped you.

And thanks Ee for accidentally re-dropping Delino Deshields after I accidentally dropped him in August.

I was in full SB chasing mode last year after losing Eaton early and Segura and others for parts of the season.  Deshields was kind of a pain to manage because he was the short side of a platoon and it seemed like the Rangers faced nothing but righties for the entire time I owned him.

Wieters was drafted #4 overall out of Georgia Tech during the first year of this league.  He was probably picked in the inaugural draft.

My only remaining 2 players from the year 3 dispersal draft are Kershaw and Upton. I cut Cole Hamels last year and lost Desmond in the CB draft.

Upton was my first pick and while he never quite hit the heights of superstardom I hoped for, I can’t say it was a bad pick. Kershaw was 3rd or 4th round and I’m pretty sure that will forever be the smartest thing I did in this league.

I got mocked when I took Prince Fielder, Longoria and Jacoby Ells early in the initial draft.  They led me to two titles before I cut them. Good times.  Didn't someone have a link to that first draft?  I would love to see that.

Matt Wieters was actually an original pick who I just dropped.

I believe I'm down to Albert Pujols, Kendrys Morales and Johnny Cueto as originals. I also own Ian Kinsler and had him on my original roster, but I traded him and then acquired him back along the way.

Jason Heyward is my last original member.

I can't even remember if we did the original draft here or on BBT.  Google docs was in Beta at the time but if we tracked it there, it wasn't using either of my usual gmail accounts.

Dr D CB draft review

added:  Andrew Miller, Maikel Franco, and Michael Chavis

lost:  Leodys Taveras, Tim Anderson, and Kevin Maitan

I've been stockpilling young assets for three years and I couldn't protect them all.  Taveras was the guy I went back and forth on but he's so young, and there is some thought he could be a slower Ben Revere someday, so I reluctantly let him go.  I would have traded Maitan for Chavis before the draft, so I'm fine with that.  He's so far away from the majors it's hard to hold him given the 25 man protectorate, which I strongly advocated for to make this more interesting.

Miller was a guy I needed for several reasons.  I don't have a closer, and was hoping to get Morrow but I'd prefered Miller over say Gregorson because I have young pitchers with WHIP issues.  So Miller should provide a good deal of innings to help in ERA and WHIP, and probably get 10-15 saves or so and a lot of vulture wins.

Franco is just me hoping for the best.  I'd have traded Anderson for him for sure, so I'm fine with that transaction also.  It's a make or break year as the Phillies have a ton of money coming free and could be in the Machado sweepstakes.  Even if they aren't another season like last year from Franco and he's gonna be jettisoned from a pretty good situation there.  Hoping he can be my starting CIFer but I'm definitely not overly optimistic.

NV competitive balance draft review:

I drafted three guys and lost no one because my team was bad. Also I finished in 6th last year and many teams actually worse than mine were hit harder, so  .

I need to drop three but I'm working on my phone and may or may not do it tonight.

King Felix kerfuffle fixed and shady inc and Dr. Detroit co-owners removed.

One-time waivers will run Wednesday (Valentine's Day) at 2AM-ish in the saved order from last season .  You can make as many claims as you like.

I sent out some offers.  Kyle Hendricks is OTB.  He's gonna win the Cy coming out of that #2 spot.  Sterling Marte as usual.  I am still a year or two away and I'm looking for guys that are just breaking in with big upside obviously.  Like that Baez guy....

The waivers run ran.  There was a minor glitch with all players going back on waivers but I've fixed that.  Everybody is available now on FCFS except for the players dropped earlier today

Is anyone looking to trade for any prospects?  Basically, I will move any prospect that is ranked 50-100 or Sterling Marte.  I want good value for him and his 40 steals though.  He's not old.  I am looking for guy's that are 19-23 with big upside or a job.  My window probably opens in 2020 so I want to be ready to go on a five year run of contention.  Tia.

Who’s ranking are you using 50-100?

Aren't the prospects you're trading guys who are 19-23 with upside? You want to trade 50-100 prospects for 1-50 prospects?

For the record I would also like to do that.

I'd like Marte but all my guys who are 19-23 with upside are like the guys you're trying to trade away I think

Its more personal preference at this point.  I would trade some guys ranked high for lower ones if it made sense for what I am trying to do.  For instance, Winker is a guy ranked around 95 that I don't want to move.  Dom Smith is about to break through and is ranked high but I just don't trust him.  Renfroe and Chavis were in the same boat.  It's not that hard to figure me out.  I change my mind alot and will deal almost anyone if I like the other side. Marte is a top 20 guy in his prime so I would want a top ten prospect bat plus.  Or a downgrade to a post hype young bat.

This is the first year in a very long time that I haven't had a high ranked prospect on my team.   Kid grooming has really changed the league and has made it harder to simultaneously compete and build for the future.  Prospect lists are dynamic though and are always an inexact science.  The competitive balance draft also raises the cost of holding mass quantities of long-term prospects.

I wish that draft was 5-6 rounds while you can only lose three.  Most of the bottom teams lost all the best guys and got hit three times.  That was Reaganomics where the rich got richer.  Talent flowed up and ish.  5-6 rounds next year witg the same rules would make it more even for all. #FeeltheBern

We can talk about tweaking the CB draft.  I didn't want to change too much at one time.

The year 12 draft pool will include class of 2018 amateurs so an extra round or two is certainly possible.   I don't think we should pick the FA pool too clean because it removes waiver wire strategy from the equation.

Protecting 25 and losing a possible 3 seem to be good numbers for me but we have the whole pre-season to decide.
