Serious Biz Dynasty Year 18 - Now with a poorly formatted table of champions (13 Viewers)

I'm too competitive not to shuffle guys in and out of the lineup if the rules allow it, but I don't love doing it. It's a lot of work for a small edge, and it encourages the rostering of platoon bats over prospects, which I don't think is ideal for a dynasty league.

Platooning isn't a terrible strategy in a daily league with our roster size

Position limits. 162 games per starting position. Not 10,000 waiver transactions to fill the roster every day and get 182 per position or whatever.

I don't know if anyone is actually doing this but implementing 162/starting spot is a no brainer IMO.

I looked at the top half teams in last year's league. Sparty's CI slot had the most games played at 179.

I don't know why we've never done this or if it was even configurable in CBS. It certainly is in Fantrax and seems like a reasonable change that should have a positive (albeit minor) impact on competitive balance.
Why would we limit that now? That's a big change. I would hate to be in a late season battle and run out of games. Saves/holds has watered us down enough imo.

Miguel Cabrera is forty today, and he gets a double header! I never realized Rich Hill was fourth three. Dang! And Satchel Page pitched at fifty nine? Seriously. Respect

That rule exists in every other roto league I've participated in. I don't see how it waters down anything, rather I think it actually rewards the best rosters and puts everyone on a level playing field. You could make the case that adding and dropping to no end is a skill I suppose but I think in a dynasty league we want to put some reward on holding and developing a team and if you have to get to 179 games at every position - with MLB having a 162 game schedule, I think you're taking away from that. I think it rewards skill more rather than just being able to be online before the games start every single day.

I’d be fine with position game limits. As NV said, we have innings floors and ceilings and position ceilings seems logical.

Secondly…I’m still giving saves/holds a chance. They both are pretty hard to predict and there might be 5-7 standouts in each category a year. Saves are still more predictable than holds, but they’ve gotten a lot closer these past 20 years.

Finally, Sparty is gonna win again. I maxed out upside of my old *** pitching staff last year, scored 104 and lost by a lot. Lance Lynn looks like me in High School and I have red crosses by the other 11 guys.

So let’s trade! I have a specific offer. I can deal the benevolent, powerful, and toolsy Adolis Garcia for an equivalent middle infielder. Not a super exiting trade but needs can be filled.

If anyone wants to talk trade today, hit me up. NOBODY is untouchable, but it has to make sense. We have some top prospects and some depth in the OF. Looking for steals and OBP mostly. Anyone over thirty is heavily discounted probably, on both sides. Hit me up. Text me if easier, it is for me.

Looking for a veteran bat for a prospect. Bryan Bello is pitching tomorrow for the Sox, is gonna be a studz, and we would move him for a vet steals guy, now. Alexander Ramirez is another highly ranked guy we would move.

There's one trade, still down for another if it makes sense. Definitely a hitter, unless it's a total stud SP.

Big day for us today. With five starting pitchers going, we could make a move finally. Bello would be our sixth SP today, but we don't want to put pressure on Studz. Go Sox!

I like my chances but I'm not scoring 114 again, my pitching is too shaky for that. Love my offense and I think my arms will be decent enough but it's a long season.

Rodg scares me a little, his staff is killing it and he just got Tatis back. As messed up as your pitching situation has been, you're not that far behind the pack so I'm not counting you out. I never count out Eephus in this league, and it's good to see younger teams like NV and PIK up there. Should be a lot more competitive all-around compared to last year.

Lucas Giolito on the block. Looking for an old stud hitter. Might move #1 prospect Jackson Churio in the right package also.

REALLY want to make a deal for an older stud bat. If we don't do it soon, I doubt we give much value down the stretch.

Dr D not only picks up a catcher, but a SIXTEEN year old catcher at that. I remember those days...
I heard a rumor they may move him from complex league to low A this season. Even having him at complex league at 16 isn’t normal, he’s probably some kind of hybrid of Pudge and Johnny Bench but with 60 steals a year.

Laugh now, cry later bro.

I went through all this and didn’t even mention the team that’s gonna win. There’s only like a dozen good SP this year and HellToupee has 8 of them.

Well somebody is going to win the league whether you jinx, reverse jinx or double-reverse jinx it.

Kraft added. . . . . . Taylor Trammell

I WIN! :bowtie:
I was tempted, but Jorge Mateo is already filling the role of super-toolsy prospect bust with sentimental value for my team.
Now that Mateo has graduated from nostalgic flier to legit fantasy stud, it's time to try again with Trammell. If this actually works I'm going to totally overreact and start digging up the ghosts of TINSTAAPP past.

I was probably always another year from truly competing but early injuries to Stanton, Altuve, Cruz, Mondesi, O'Neill etc locked it in.

Stanton and Jose Abreu's corpse are available. I'll take anyone 28 or so and younger in return, not wanting to draw this out any longer.

The prospect lists adore my team right now at least.

Mateo is like 2 for his last 70. Maybe there is a chance…

Yes, I know I'm whining, but I wonder how many players got a similar positional squeeze based on this interpretation of eligibility.
Mark Vientos also UT only.

He might end up as a DH so it feels less silly than Alvarez. He also isn’t likely to crack my lineup anytime soon. Still doesn’t make much sense given all the time he’s spent at 1B and 3B in the minors this year and last.

Reaching position eligibility thresholds is a problem for late-season callups but there aren't as many as there used to be. This is also a dynasty league with two UT spots.

Vientos is UT only in Yahoo as well.

We really were trying to compete this year, but my god, the injuries! We dumped good prospects early for vets on the waiver wire and that really backfired. Oh well.

I remember reading this post and thinking how ridiculously lucky I've been with injuries this year. Apparently the IL gods heard me and decided it was time to even things out. Fortunately I was able to stabilize my lineup with the ultra-durable Giancarlo Stanton :oldunsure:

Carter was too good for me to pass up. I'd much rather be competing this year but Carter and Chourio are hopefully nice consolation prizes.

I've had Yoan Moncada on my roster since he was still in Cuba. He showed glimpses but sorry it hasn't quite panned out for him.

He did have a nice 2019. So did Bellinger and Flaherty. I shudder to think how good your team would be this year if those 3 hadn't flopped so badly.

Kris Bryant fell off the same cliff but that's life in a dynasty league.

The only one I've never gotten over is Jose Fernandez.
