Setting up 8 team league (1 Viewer)

I am starting a new league at work, with several guys who are new to fantasy football. I usually do leagues with 10 teams minimum, so an 8 team league will be pretty strange.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to set up the league to account for the small size? For instance, I was thinking of doing a dual flex option and expanding the roster size to keep from having too many attractive options on the WW.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

i agree that you want 2 QBs. you should also expand the rosters so that the right number of players (whatever that means to you) are rostered. in other words, if you usually play in 10 team leagues with rosters of 20 players each (200 rostered players), then for an 8 team league, if you had 25 man rosters, you'd expect to see the same quality player on the waiver wire that you're used to. if you usually play in 12 team leagues with 25 player rosters (300 rostered players), you might set the roster size for an 8 team league somewhere between 35 and 40. presumably you'd also increase the number of starters each week.

what about something like this: 2 QBs, 3 RBs, 5 WRs, 2 TEs, 1 RB/WR/TE Flex, 2 K, 2 Def, 10 Bench

We started a similar league at work last year. 8 teams, with a few guys who were fairly new to the game. We used a similar setup. The only difference was that the flex spot was WR/RB. It worked out pretty well.

Is that too many starters for a new player to handle? I was thinking about something more standard with normal rosters:1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1 Flex (RB/WR/TE), 1PK, 1 TD16 man rosterMy thought was with good players on the wire the league would be active with transactions and teach the new players the value of player movement, etc. If the 8 team league was full of vets, I think the expanded starting lineup option is more necessary.

That's the thing, it will be primarily new players, so I didn't want to get too crazy with the settings. I think a 2QB, 2RB, 3WR, 2Flex, 1TE, 1PK, 1 TD might be a good compromise. Thanks for the suggestions!

My favorite league is an 8 team league. But we have some really, really, big starting rosters and use IDP as well.

I'd suggest 2 qb, 3 rb, 4 wr, 2 te (or 4 wr, 1 te, 1 wr/te), 2 k. You could even toss in a Head Coach. If you do 2 qb's you need more than 2 rb's...otherwise their value becomes so watered down.

8 players is great fun. We use these settings in Yahoo. Of course, everybody can play everybody else twice in this format, which is great. 200 players come off the board, so it encourages a good draft.

Roster Positions: QB, QB, WR, WR, WR, WR, RB, RB, RB, TE, TE, K, DEF, Benchx12

Would you guys recommend PPR or non-PPR?

PPR has little to do with league size and it's largely a personal preference. I absolutely loathe that format but there are some good arguments for/against it.

I'd also look into tiered ppr. Really it's whatever you enjoy...this game is all about having some fun.

Definitely need to do 2 QB's to make them remotely relevant (plus they'll all take them in the first round anyway).

I'd say non, simply becuase it's one less thing for new people to take into account - plus many websites dont offer PPR ranks.

Run 1 league with 8 owners for the work guys.

They didn't like start 2QB as real teams don't (I personally like it).

Starting line-ups: 1QB, 2RB, 4WR, 2TE, 1DEF, 1K

Scoring: No PPR (me hates it), QB scoring = .075 per yard, 6 per TD, -2 per INT. Trust me, they are still relevant (put it into Draft Dominator and pick any benchmark you like for VBD).

DEF/ST scoring a little juiced too:

Fumble Recoveries (from Opponent) 2 points each

Interceptions Caught 2 points each

Sacked a QB 1 point each

Safeties 4 points each

Offensive Points Against 15

Offensive Points Against 12

Offensive Points Against 8

Offensive Points Against 6

Offensive Points Against 4

Offensive Points Against 2

Offensive Points Against 0

Offensive Points Against -2

Offensive Points Against -4

Offensive Points Against -6

Total Net Yards Allowed 15

Total Net Yards Allowed 12

Total Net Yards Allowed 10

Total Net Yards Allowed 8

Total Net Yards Allowed 6

Total Net Yards Allowed 4

Total Net Yards Allowed 2

Total Net Yards Allowed 0

Total Net Yards Allowed -2

Total Net Yards Allowed -4

Number of Special Teams TDs Allowed -4 points each

Number of Defensive & Special Teams TDs 6 points each

I was in a 8 team league a few years ago. The starting lineups were 1 QB/3RB/3WR/1K/1DST and 2 flex (1 could be any position and 1 was a RB/WR) There was no TE requirement, so they were included in the receiver pool. The rosters were huge as we drafted 26 rounds.

Most people ended up starting a second QB with one of their flex options.

2QB

4WR

3RB

2 WRT FLEX

1 TE

1 K

1 DEF

in my office league (10 team - $50 - PPR) we expanded the lineups because IMO 10 Team is a bit small too.

QB / 3 WR / 2 RB / 2 WRT FLEX / 1 TE / 1 PK / 1 DEF / 8 BENCH

Helps separate the men from the boys a little rather than everyone having an all star starting squad.
