Setting Up a League (1 Viewer)

Lehigh98

Footballguy
I started in one simple league last year and guess I've been bitten by the bug.I'd like to start a league and bring in some guys from my FFB league that have never played FBB before.Because of that, I'd like to lean more to FFB type scoring (and its something different from my other league) So my initial thought is that we'd set it up as a head to head league (10-12 teams) with each week being a "game".At the end of the regular season the top 4 teams would make the playoffs and play 2-week long "games" each round.Pretty flexible on the # of starters / positions but don't want the teams / rosters / draft to be huge. Our rosters for FFB consisted of 9 starters and 9 bench spots so thinking of:

Catcher © 1 First Base (1B) 1 Second Base (2B) 1 Shortstop (SS) 1 Third Base (3B) 1 Outfield (OF) 3 Utility (U) 1 Starting Pitcher (SP) 3 Relief Pitcher (RP) 2 Pitcher (P) 2 Bench (BN) 5 Disabled List (DL) 3 Total Roster Size 24
Is 9 batters vs 7 pitchers enough of a balance?I could drop the utlility spot to make it a bit more even but like the flexibility there.I guess my biggest issue is setting up the scoring (points per activity rather than roto) correctly and fairly.Should it be set up so the top pitchers should score similarly to the top hitters?Should the top relivers also score similarly as well? (Through points per save?) Would that put too much emphasis on saves? What are your thoughts on using these "standard" scoring categories or what problems would you forsee?...
Batting: Home Runs (HR) 5 Runs Batted In (RBI) 1 Runs Scored ® 1 Stolen Bases (SB) 1 Singles (1B) 1 Doubles (2B) 2 Triples (3B) 3 Walks (BB) 1 Strikeouts (K) -1 Caught Stealing (CS) -1 Pitching:Innings Pitched (IP) 1 Wins (W) 5 Losses (L) -2 Saves (SV) 2 Strikeouts (K) 1 Hits Allowed (H) -1 Walks Allowed (BB) -1 Earned Runs Allowed (ER) -1 Blown Saves (BS) -1
Under this scoring system, you'd see around the following point totals for the year:Top Batters - 600Top Starters - 200Top Closers - 150Seems like a huge disparity between hitters and pitchers, should I adjust to close the gap? How so?Lastly, what would you suggest for minimum and maximum number of AB's and Innings per week if any? Thanks in advance!

played in a league similar to this for several years

Pitchers received 10 for wins, and a -5 for loses........kind of evened things out

Also, we gave 4 points for HR, as they are already getting the extra points for the RBIs and Run scored.

If you ever decide to go roto, let me know, I'll send over our Constitution.

Seems like I'd still be awarding a majority of points to things that can be "hit and miss" and in the case of pitchers, not something they're in complete control over. For example, having Lidge come in and blow a save for your starter 3 times (30 points on the season, >10% of his total) can really screw with you point total even if you're Roy Halladay. What do you think of bumping points per inning pitched to 2?And/or maybe adjusting base hits to something like: Singles (1B) 1 Doubles (2B) 1.5Triples (3B) 2 Home Runs (HR) 3

Just saw Chet posted this scorign system...

ESPN H2H10 teamsAll MLB playersBatting Total Bases (TB) 1 Walks (BB) 1 Runs Scored ® 1 Runs Batted In (RBI) 1 Stolen Bases (SB) 1 Strikeouts (K) -1 Pitching Innings Pitched (IP) 3 Earned Runs (ER) -2 Wins (W) 10 Losses (L) -5 Saves (SV) 5 Strikeouts (K) 1 Hits Allowed (H) -1 Walks Issued (BB) -1

Thats an awfully shallow league. Only 9 batters and 7 ptichers? IMO fantasy baseball is best with a single league universe and atleast 22 starters.

Maybe we'll get to that someday but I think that will scare people off before I can even get them to join.Any thoughts on the point structure?

If you're giving -1 for hits allowed, why not a point for each out they get?
