Setting up rosters to handle COVID (ESPN specific) (1 Viewer)

Finally decided to renew my local league for the 2020 season. Fun league with friends and co-workers.

Maybe this has already been discussed, but do we know how these platforms are going to handle COVID cases? Will those testing positive be eligible for IR spots?

What is the general consensus for roster setup? Usually have 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1PK and 1TD. 7 bench spots. No IR. Thinking of adding maybe two roster spots and two IR spots. ??

My main league is changing nothing. No IR spots, no extra roster spots, basically just treating COVID like any other reason for missing a game. I don't really see any reason to change anything, as it should effect every team equally. There may be a tough call here or there, but that just adds to the strategy. Same starting requirements, but only 6 bench spots.

Not to sound like a smart butt, but good luck with that. I have never been a fan of IR spots either, but this year it seems like a no-brainer.

You get two or three players on your team with COVID and you're in a world of trouble.

To each their own but I would not be a fan of this approach. I prefer rules that favor skill over luck as much as possible.

Adding 4 IR spots as that is the max on ESPN.  These will only be used for COVID, not going to allow high ankle sprains or concussions or whatever in there

This is a major mistake in thinking, IMO. Good luck.

Is it going to be the same strategy as years past when your Monday night player wakes up with a Monday morning positive test for Covid and you take a 0 at QB or whatever position ?  I guess you could have benched your Monday QB and picked up a guy off waivers for Sunday at 1 PM to make sure he plays.

What strategy !

I think people are missing the big picture.  To me the worry isn't about a guy testing positive on a Tuesday or a Friday and placing on IR and getting some random dude off waivers I probably won't even start unless I am only carrying 1 QB the worry for me is the Sunday night and Monday games when I have no one left on my bench to replace them and I find out when the inacitves comes out that my guy in my lineup has to sit for it and I have no one to start.

Increase your IR spots, not bench.  Worst case you have a running message board thread tracking active roster covid players for each team, set a rule that they may be dropped and not picked up by any other owner during their NFL IR designation and the team that dropped them have 24-48 hours after the player is cleared to play to pick them back up before they hit FA.

I'm toying with the notion of allowing team backup QBs. Unless someone like Hurts or Stidham is rostered, you would automatically get that teams replacement starter in your lineup.

Also thinking about allowing a different QB that already played to be started retroactively, if you have them rostered. If we're talking about late scratches.

Legwork intensive for commish but what else is new.

Probably team kicker as well.

I've always played in leagues that allow pickups up until kickoff, including night games. You just can't pick up a player that has already played.

Those are nice but don't do so well for Dynasty when you own Brees and another team owns Winston and Brees plays Monday night and covid news hits him Monday morning.

Also I play mostly high stakes leagues our waivers end on Friday 10 PM ET we get none after that.
