SF Defense - 2nd after 5 weeks (1 Viewer)

SF D is 3rd in my league after 4 weeks (w/no points for special team play). Not too bad. Baltimore D is ridiculous, still.

What's the consensus on these guys? Can we expect it to continue? I doubt they will be top three at seasons end, but what about top 8?

The Harbaugh bros gettin' it done thus far

The 49er's can keep it up, no question ... very favorable sked the rest of the way (Detroit next week could be dicey), but they get: @ Arizona, vs. Pitt, @ Seattle for the fantasy playoffs (weeks 14-16).

Upcoming for them ... Cleve, Wash, 2 against 'Zona, St. Louis ... along with Detroit, Baltimore and NYG. Can't see any reason they do not finish top 5 with that path.

They are giving up a ton of yards, but they are forcing turnovers and have a good return man. So as long as that holds, they should be fine, but the yards and points are the things that scare me about this D.

nice job projecting with the schedule-thanks for the leg work.I don't think they're top 5 good and the cream will rise to the top here, but it sure looks like they will based on this.Is Singletary owed a thank you here?I'm curious because I was a bit surprised at his poor results as a coach and eventually felt like he was so stuck at QB despite their trying to build through the draft.

Gouged by Dallas (a game they could've won, regardless) and Philly (a game they did win). The Romo/Austin injuries came in that Dallas tilt, but no shame in getting whacked by 2 high octane offenses, especially when they were in position to win both games.Flip side? They held both Seattle and Cincy to under 230 total yards each. Factor in their return game, and nice sked, and I think they can definitely be top 5,

Dalton looks very much like a rook and Seattle needs Carroll to perform too much magic. If I'm a Niners fan I'm writing "held" there too, but it doesn't feel like much of an accomplishment

But therein lies my point ... earlier poster was concerned about yards/points ... just trying to illustrate that any defense could be lit up by Philly and (relatively healthy) Dallas.Just as any defense can throttle Cincy/Seattle ... just sayin' that they are capable of dominating the palookas left on their sked ... it's not like they were gouged for points/yards against the lesser 2 opponents. It's all about matchups, and they will struggle vs. Detroit as well ... but not much high flying opposition after that. Carry on.

Not in the least. Baalke? Yes. Singletary? No way. He's a nice guy but the only thing he helped with was smacking some sense into Vernon. Singletary meant well but he was awful.

This team is built to win games 17-14. So long as the offense doesn't turn the ball over and can make a few first downs they will be in decent shape. The problem arises when they cough the ball up or can't give the D a break. This has been the case the last couple seasons for them.
