SF Dynasty Start-up Draft Grade & Discussion - Full PPR & 0.5 TEP (1 Viewer)

I just completed my first dynasty startup in several years. Other parts of my life have taken precedent and I am not as plugged-in as I once was. I was hoping to get some thoughts from y'all on my roster, and the trade I made. It's 1Qb, 2RB, 3WR, 1 TE, 3 Flex, 1 SF... and pretty deep benches. The draft was a 3rd-Round Reversal and I got the 1.02! Feels bad, but hey... Jayden Daniels to start ain't bad!

As the board came back around I started looking at who might be available to me at the 2.11. And then getting so bold as trying to project who might be there at the 3.11. I felt like Drake London is the end of my Tier 2 of dynasty WR and he felt just outside my reach at 2.11, and the guys I was seeing at 3.11 felt like a pretty big drop-off. So, I traded my startup 3.11 and my 2026 1st to acquire the 2.7 and selected Drake London, and followed him up with Omarion Hampton at 2.11. The players I could have got at 3.11 are like Travis Hunter, Tee Higgins, T.Mac, or Achane.

After that, I just played my position and tried to pick up value where I could. LIkely as my first TE in the back of the 9th feels like it could be huge value in the TEP format, come this time next year. Same with Mason Taylor at the 13.11. Taking Russ at 11.11 as the last starting QB on the board, and then using my next pick on Milroe is where I feel like my draft may have gone off the rails. I guess I won't think so if Milroe hits though....

Complete draft:
1.02 - Jayden Daniels
2.07 - Drake London
2.11 - Omarion Hampton
4.02 - Baker Mayfield
5.11 - Quinson Judkins
6.02 - Jordan Addison
7.11 - Mike Evans
8.02 - David Montgomery
9.11 - Isaiah Likely
10.02 - Courtland Sutton
11.11 - Russel Wilson
12.02 - Jalen Milroe
13.11 - Mason Taylor
14.02 - Ben Sinnott
15.11 - Devin Neal
16.02 - Roschon Johnson
17.11 - Amari Cooper
18.02 - Isaac TeSlaa
19.11 - Nick Chubb
20.02 - MIke Williams
21.11 - Mac Jones
22.02 - Tyler Lockett
23.11 - Tyler Conklin
24.02 - Elijah Mitchell
25.11 - MIles Sanders

Overall I think you fell into the "dynasty trap" of going for too many rookies and unproven guys. Too many owners go into start up drafts and punt the first couple years because it's "dynasty" and they don't want any old guys.

Why did you think London wouldn't have been there at 2.11? I think you gave up a bit much to move up for him. Especially based on how you drafted because that 2026 is likely to be in the top half of the draft.

QB: You did great here. Having Daniels and Baker locked in is a great start. No complaints here. Wilson was a wasted pick. He is a placeholder and likely will be gone before you ever get to a spot to use him. No need to force him as the "last starting QB" because he likely won't be starting long. I like Milroe as an upside pick and he is exactly he type of QB you should have been going after since you have Daniels/Baker locked in. Mac Jones was another wasted pick. Zero upside for him and he likely never plays.

RB: You put all your eggs in a rookie basket. If they don't pan out you are screwed. Better hope those two rookies live up to the hype or you will be chasing RB's for awhile

WR: The mix here is a better mix. I really lked the value on Mike Evans and would have liked to have seen a little more of those type picks throughout the back end of your draft. Without seeing how the draft unfolded It's tough to say how good the picks of Mike Williams, Lockett, and Cooper are. I think those guys are corpses so I likely wouldn't have gone that direction but don't know what was available.

TE: Has upside but needs things to fall into place. In a TE-P league I would have liked to have gotten a more sure thing at TE. With all the hype and expectations Likely might get there but he has also disappointed and it doesn't look like Andrews is going anywhere soon. I have Likely so I know the frustration of having him. I hope he pans out just not sure when that will be.

I play in multiple leagues with a few of the managers, and the managers selecting before me in the second round included a Falcons homer. I feel pretty strongly Drake would have been gone.My thinking in making the trade was that the 3RR moving my 3rd round pick back to 3.11 meant that trading that pick away to try to (in my mind) ensure my roster had was really strong at the very top. Looking at the players likely available to me at the 3.11 I felt like I was going to get put in a tough spot there as well, with tier breaks.

There are definitely some personal preference/takes weaved in here. I like Roschon Johnson a whole lot with the new coaching regime in Chicago. I am also quite high on Hampton, and only a little less so on Judkins. My biggest complaint with those rookies is that the Browns offense isn't likely to be scoring a lot of points.
