Walt Harris drew quite a few waiver bids this week, but that strikes me as a knee jerk reaction to a big week by a CB that I doubt will often repeat his 7 tackle game of last Sunday.

I'm more interested in the safety situation. Tony Parrish and M. Adams got the starts, but I read that Parrish (and SF safeties in general) are in a rotation now... Chad Williams had a nice outing with 3 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 QB hurries. Roman also showed up with 3 tackles and an asst. I took a flyer on C Williams for $1 on the waiver wire this week myself.... but what does this rotation look like?

Parrish's value has to take a dip here I would think, but any 49er homers (or anyone else who has an opinion) have more info on how this situation shakes out? TIA

I've not seen but a few snaps of the Niners' games thus far so much of this is pieced together from quotes and some speculation.Tony Parrish seems to have lost a step. Mark Roman, who originally was thought to be competing for playing time with Mike Adams, is now rotating with Parrish. He looks to have gotten more time in the second game than the first. Parrish is still seen as a defensive leader by some of the youngsters but his fantasy value doesn't look good at all right now. Mike Adams is a full time player. He's pretty much a classic free safety, though, and being used mostly in deep coverage. Looking at the gamebooks, the tackles he's made on rushing plays have been well downfield. Chad Williams is playing primarily in the dime defense and frequently comes on delayed blitzes. His value may look a little inflated against offenses and quarterbacks like Bulger and Warner, whose teams run a lot of deep routes and aren't afraid to hold the ball and take sacks.I'm still holding off on judging Harris. Two weeks is pretty close to a trend and he has been a decent run support corner in the past. Although he made a few tackles on Edgerrin James against Arizona, all ten boxscore plays against the Rams were in coverage.Hopefully there's a Niners homer around that can flesh this out a little more for you. And Norton has said he's planning to watch the SF game closely this weekend specifically to check out the safeties.

I am wondering if there are any other owners still holding onto S Tony Parrish SF?

He turns 31 this year and is coming off of a serious leg injury last season. A few years ago he was a top 15 DB but his fantasy value seems to have diminished. So far in 4 games this year he has 10 tackles and goose eggs elsewhere.

Question is it time for even deep roster owners to dump him?

Nice work, Jene. You hit the nail on the head in regards to Parrish, Roman, and Williams. :goodposting:

If there was anyone still holding onto Parrish this should help you do what I did last week...

His streak of 121 consecutive starts was snapped last November when he suffered a leg fracture that sidelined him for the final seven games of 2005.Roman and Parrish had been alternating through the first five games with Parrish taking the initial snaps. But Parrish, a tough, physical defender against the run, has struggled in pass coverage recently and Nolan had said for weeks that he considered the starting job up for grabs.Nolan said Roman "was our starter today. We'll look at the film and see if he remains that."The Chargers took advantage of the 49ers secondary, which also was missing Walt Harris, to rack up 334 yards passing, the most by a 49ers opponent this season.Cornerback Sammy Davis started in place of Harris, who was deactivated after straining a hamstring in practice Thursday.Roman, who joined the 49ers before the season after being released by the Green Bay Packers, said he was more concerned about the outcome of the game than getting his first start of the season."It don't matter when you lose like we did," Roman said. "This game is about wins and losses. We didn't get the job done."-- Dennis Georgatos and Daniel Brown, MediaNews
