At this point the Buffalo Bills or a team that falls in love with Micheal Johnsons talent and potential would be trying to trade up in front of the Packers to try and get him. M.Johnson has too much skill and should not be available at this point in the draft.

I know the Bills already took a DE, but M.Johnson is a player that will take a year or two to develope and by that time our DE's will be that much older. Besides, we saw something like this happen last year from the Jags. Why not again this year?

It's not like you can "win" the mock draft by getting players fall to you because no one said anything. I much prefer someone making a pick and explaining the process that went into the selection and why they passed on other guys. Keeping the information to a minimum seems completely counter to the reason for doing the thread in the first place.

Ghiaciuc is small and overall... just not good. In a division that's full of huge nose tackles, that's not qualities you want your center to have. Unger played his first two seasons at LT and the last two at C. All-PAC every year. He can't play LT at the pro level but he could play the other 4 spots, and the Bengals like versatile lineman. 6-5 300lbs with the frame to add weight. Good news for Palmer and whoever they line up at RB.

Seattle is expected by most to be selecting WR Michael Crabtree in the first round at 1.04. I tried my best to give a detailed argument as to why I think its not the right move for this team, and also why I think Crabtree isn't worthy of a top four pick in the draft.

So....

With the fourth pick in the second round (2.04), Seattle selects WR Kenny Britt, Rutgers.

Positives: Britt is an early entry monster at 6'4" and plays physically. He punishes DBs with his size and strength. However, what I like best about Britt is the thing that makes him similar to Crabtree. He's got wonderful hands, always catching the ball away from his body. He rarely suffers a drop. If you watch this clip from YouTube you'll see him making several receptions and taking big hits, often bouncing off and keeping his feet.

He can make a reception in traffic with guys hanging off him. I've read in more than one place that he excels at jump balls in the red zone, but I have to admit that I haven't seen footage of it yet. Britt should step into the SE position nicely in the WCO.

Negatives: Straight line speed. He's not a deep burner and won't being beating safeties over the top. If he posts a big time at the combine his stock will soar. Effort and desire are in question. Britt is just a kid. He won't be 21 yet when the draft rolls around.

Final comment: Too early to be taking Britt? Perhaps, but I had two players targeted here (other was Moore), and I don't think Britt will be around at the start of the third round so I'm forced to take him here. Trading down would be optimal, but we don't have that option given the format. I understand that most rankings have Britt being taken late second or even early third, but that's someone else's rankings. I feel the potential that Britt has flashed makes him worth the risk and I won't be surprised if years from now we look back and realize Britt was the real deal (otherwise I wouldn't make the pick). D Williams from Penn State? Nicks from UNC? Pass. Britt is my guy.

Another thought... I've been doing a lot of research on players for this mock. I amazed that several different rankings have such divergent comments on the same player. I saw comments suggesting Britt had great hands, and than he had horribly inconsistent hands. Ugh. I can't stress enough that people need to find video to watch and decide for themselves when evaluating players. Don't settle for reading some guys write up on JoeShmoe.com.

Players like Britt or Nicks in the second are another reason I don't like Crabtree to the Seahawks in the first. What about the Seahawks taking Maclom Jenkins in the first? I am a big believer that you need to win your conference as a first priority. And to win the NFC West, you have to be able to cover Fitzgerald and Boldin. Jenkins has the size to match up against the Cardinals WR. None of their other cornerbacks are over 6 feet, so Jenkins gives them a shot at stopping the Fade end zone pass the Cardinals like to run.

I realize that Walter Jones and Locklear are getting old, so I don't have a problem with a OT, but does Jenkins fit them as well? I haven't seen him mentioned much.

Michael Johnson is a tough guy to judge. He didn't crack the starting line up at Tech until 2008, he then put up some impressive stats, but when you watch him play you'd swear he wasn't very good. And then he gets a sack. Then he's average to bad again, and then he knocks down a pass. Watching him play he looks like a mid-late round prospect that surprises you on a couple plays a game. I can't help but be reminded of Calais Campbell who was also a tall DE with a lot of upside and a hot guy early in the draft process that slid to pick #50.edit to add: I also really didn't like him skipping the Senior Bowl.

With the 40th pick in the 2009 Draft, the OAKLAND RAIDERS select:

Michael Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech

Honestly, another no-brainer, at least if I am wearing my Al Davis track suit. Let's see, physically gifted, if underachieving DE at the top of the 2nd round? Where have I heard that before? We can call this the Quentin Moses Memorial Draft Pick.

Once Mack and Peria were taken, it became obvious that the Raiders would not be able to pass up on Johnson's tantalizing physical traits. Johnson will be a 3rd down rusher immediately, platooning with Jay Richardson, a hard-working 3rd year player. A guy the Raiders really missed in 2008 was Chris Clemons, whose speed off the edge was missed on 3rd down.

DT and OT were the other possibilities; however, there are several players in both groups that we(I) have ranked closely, and there is no DE left that has close to the upside that Johnson has. It would not surprise me if the Raiders have him ranked as their 3rd DE behind Orakpo and Brown, knowing Al's love of the incredible athlete.

Mack would have been nice, as he would have solidified two spots, C and RG, as the current C, Jake Grove, could have slid over there if Mack was ready to take over. With two picks and no OT, Mario Henderson, who looked promising late in the year, now has the pressure of protecting the 60 Million Dollar Man's blindside.

Not much time to write at the moment. Anyway. I'm very tempted to draft a big 'ol fat guy here, as there are some OL prospects and I like DT Ron Brace - by April I'm sure he will be considered a solid 2nd round pick.

In this first year of their 3-4 defense, ideally GB won't need any rookies to play too much. That would have gone for Jenkins, Raji or anyone I might have taken at #9 - I don't think they would have stepped in and started. They will still be aligning in 4-3 sometimes and Barwin can play DE in that situation.

Barwin should be a good pressure player on the outside, surely better than Poppinga. He also will upgrade special teams play, a weakness for the Packers last year. He can block kicks and knock down passes. This is the kind of versatile, smart player I always see making plays for the great 3-4 defenses of Pitt, NE, etc. He can even play TE and may be a better prospect there than last year's draft choice, Finley.

Going the WR route with this pick, i would have expected the Seahawks to take Nicks. Nicks style is very similar to that of Crabtree, and Crabtree's talent level when compared to Nicks is perceived to be a lot higher than it really it is. I also think Nicks is the more ideal guy for a WCO. Having said that, i still think Britt is going to be a good WR. I can't remember a time when the Seahawks had a big receiver who they could just throw the ball up and have the WR come down with it. Hasselbeck was pretty successful at throwing a fade route to Hackett back when he was on the team, and Britt is 2 inches taller. I like the pick, but think Nicks would have been a slightly better one.

I can understand this rational. The problem I had when watching Nicks was his lack of "physicality". When I watched Britt he just seem more (for lack of a better word) violent. He made contact with DBs and remained upright while the DBs were laying on the ground. Nicks didn't have that (but that's not his game). Nicks just seemed much faster/quicker. I wanted to target a larger receiver with the same dimension that Hines Ward brings to the table. A dude that hits defensive players just as hard as they hit him.

100% agree. This was my plan from the start. I was locked into S Moore and WRs Heyward-Bey or Britt when I passed on Crabree.

Rob Rang of draftscout.com is a local northwest guy and knows the Seahawks as well and any local beat writer. He's nailed several Seattle picks in the past and he currently sees the Seahawks taking Jenkins with 1.04.I'm not opposed to it because premier CBs are a premium, but it comes down to priorities for me. I still see OL and DL as the priorities when trying to build a long term contender, but CB isn't far down that list.Another Seattle thought... I see the team spending LARGE in the offseason on free agents. They have the richest owner in the league who has been willing to write big checks before. I won't be shocked to see it happen again.

As a Pack fan, I absolutely love this pick. From what I've read about him he's a high motor athlete, with great speed for a guy his size (4.6). New LB's coach Kevin Greene will be licking his chops if he gets this kid. For him to make a successful switch from TE to DE in college says an awful lot about his athleticism and attitude. The guy's a football player. And Chicago Hooligan is right, he can start on ST's right away. He may be a bit raw and inexperienced, but he's got the tools to become a successful OLB in the 3-4. Suddenly, Green Bay's draft looks pretty interesting if you ask me. Potential stud RB and OLB for the 3-4. Honestly, this looks like a TT draft. Unexpected names but they could be good fits in the Packer's system.

A big leaper. Long arms.

Physical for the ball, Laid some big hits for the Utes.

Great Hands for a DB. And timing. Locates the ball as good as anyone in college.

Good in press coverage with his hands and feet.

Not overly fast. Only adequate speed as a corner.

Steep learning curve ahead as a free safety.

May not be a big hitter in pros, not a "thick" player at his current build.

Some questions regarding his total game awareness.
