#2 Selection The ST. Louis Rams selectAndre Smith OT AlabamaIn my opinion this should be the easiest pick in the draft. The Rams need oline help and here's Smith falling into their lap. For anyone who questions how good this kid is you could have watched any Alabama game this year and then watched the Sugar bowl when Smith wasn't on the field. It was like a complete different team. Smith will be available to play the right side until Pace is done and gives the Rams the ability to move Barron to play guard. I believe Spags is going to want to be a physical team and that he will emphasize running the ball. The popular pick lately has been to crab Crabtree. While I think he might be a very good player I see 2 reasons that isn't going to happen.1) I personally think the Rams like Macklin more than Crabtree2) When you've picked #2 2 years in a row you obviously need ore power on your line.Andre Smith will be a steady player for the Rams and will help them build a more powerful team.Again I apologize for running late. No problem at all with this pick, I'm curious though, what are the rumors about the futures of Holt and Pace?Also, why would the Rams like Macklin more Crabtree? Would St. Louis consider Stafford if Detroit passed on him?

I think the word is Pace will stay but Holt could get traded or cut.I could see Holt getting moved to a team like the NYG who are looking for a #1 vetern wr especially with the news about Toomer probably not returning. Holt is first class person that still has some years left in the tank. I think STL would be happy to get a 4th or 5th round pick for him.Obviously GM's don't show their hands but the STL staff has been enamored with their hometown product and I've heard more than once on sports talk radio and newspapers that the Rams see Maclin as the #1 wr on the board.I see absolutely no way the Rams would look Stafford's way. I'm not a fan of Bulger but the Rams need other spots filled first. I could see them looking at a qb perhaps in the 3-5 range but more of a project compared to a guy they are bringing n to compete.

I think it's pretty typical. The one's drafting right behind the next guy are impatiently waiting their turn while the guy who's up is busy with other things. It has been declared a slow draft so it's not really a huge deal. Some guys are more excited about it and want it to move quickly on the first day while others have other things going on.

Kinda nice thing about drafting for KC here is that it would be hard to go wrong with the selection. There are several needs and some quality players to choose from. I do think QB would be a serious reach at this point in the draft with Stafford gone. IMO OL or DE would be the smart play here.

I am expecting KC to go with Mike Crabtree here. Best player available on a team that has as many needs as any other team in the draft.

The main need is Clearly DE, but there is nobody worth even thinking about at #3.

At LB AAron Curry might be worth looking at, but with Donnie Edwards when healthy and Derrick Johnson and Demorrio Williams, I dont think they are half bad. There is a nice crop of Free Agent LBs coming free as well and KC has good cap shape.

KC Offensive Line is not that bad after finishing 16 in rushing. Rudy Niswanger and Branden Albert started 15 games. McINtosh and Waters started 16. They will find a RG in round 2 or 3.

Thigpens ratio was 18-9 as a starter TD to INT. I think they will resign Croyle and let he and Thigpen battle it out.

I don't think Pioli gambles on Sanchez (or any other QB here). I would think the team's interview with Crabtree would have to go well also. He doesn't seem to be setting up the I will do anything to play in the League mentality that Calvin Johnson exhibited two years ago. Character will count a lot; I think you can see that in all of the first round picks the Patriots made. I don't know enough about the grading of the players to make an informed comment as to who it should be but it won't be a potential problem child.

Orakpo is still a bit of a mystery at this point but with a good combine could climb to this spot. Crabtree is another possibility.

Could not agree more. He is the BPA in my book and I would almost be tempted to take Crabtree and then work out a deal later. With no 3rd or 5th, this would be my first choice. I would prefer to drop a couple spots and then look at Brown, Maybin, or one of the top corners. But since that's not an option.......It was really down to two players. Orakpo and Jenkins. Both are positions of need for us. We have a very young secondary and I think they would benefit more from an improved pass rush. 17 sacks for the season is good for the 3rd worst in the league only behind KC and Cinci. Any DB given as much time as we've allowed QB's would have a tough time covering anyone. I really wanted to address the front 7 as early as possible.

Yeah in this spot you'd have to go OLB in my opinion. A lot of players are at the same talent level here and our need breaks all the ties.

I'm not a Browns fan but I think this pick makes a lot of sense. Orakpo is expected to put up some impressive combine numbers and he's obviously shown he can perform on the field. If I had the Chiefs pick, I probably would have taken Orakpo.

I fully expected that reaction. Here's my rational. What do I think the team will actually do?

I think the team will select WR Michael Crabtree. I would never invest such a high pick in a WR unless I observed enough to make me really believe he was an immediate impact difference maker. I just don't believe that Crabtree is that kind of difference maker. He very well may turn out to be one of the greats, but I can only go by my observations. I like to give college WRs what I like to call the Youtube test. Check the link for yourself and agree or disagree with what I see. Also, there are several other videos as well that show the same types of plays.

I see a tall fast WR that catches the ball with his hands. I like this, but I don't see a tall fast receiver making tough catches in traffic and over the top being physical and fighting for the ball (like L. Fitzgerald or C. Johnson). Could he be the guy? Maybe, but I just don't see it. Back when Fitzgerald and Johnson came out of college they both passed my Youtube test.

Did I really just spend that much time and energy explaining who I didn't pick? Yeah, I guess I did. I felt it was necessary because almost every draft I've seen has Crabtree going to Seattle at 1.04 with the exception of a few where he goes to the Rams at 1.02.What would I do if I were the GM?

Yes, Seattle may be desperate for a top flight WR given the number of question marks surrounding Branch (knee), Burleson (knee), Engram (age), Robinson (too many issues to list them all), but I don't believe that quality teams gamble on high picks. I go the safe route and build tremendous offensive and defensive lines that mediocre skill position players can thrive behind. As the GM I'm in it for the long haul. I want to win over a long period of time instead of focusing on the flash. Seattle made this mistake a few years ago by letting LG Steve Hutchinson get away and invested a ton of money into RB Shawn Alexander. I see the team facing the same situation here.

Monroe is a top of the draft player. He's the guy you build an offense around for the next 10 years. I've been telling people for years that the special talent in Seattle was coach Holmgren, LT Walter Jones, and LG Steve Hutchinson. Alexander, Hasselbeck, and Jackson were just roll players in my opinion. Monroe is a guy that will allow average players to shine.

Monroe has been measured as large as 6-7 320 lbs, and everyone agrees that he could add MORE bulk. He's an amazing athlete for his size. He has the speed an athleticism to pull from the RG spot where he will likely line up for a year or two because Seattle still has starters at both tackle positions. How long can Walter Jones keep playing at a high level? Time will tell. He just had micro fracture surgery. I'm VERY nervous about his future. Beyond Monroe's freaky combination of size and athleticism, he was a model student in school (4.0 GPA). Given Seattle's track record over the past few years of "character counts", Monroe will fit into the overall team philosophy.

Yes, this a fantasy football site. I believe there's way too much emphasis on skill position players because of that fact. I remain a football fan first, and in my opinion Eugene Monroe is the best football player on the board playing on the offensive or defensive line. Other than Crabtree, the only other non-lineman player I would have considered with this selection would have been Jenkins.

While i can't speak for the front office, the fans are all screaming defense. There's really no pressure right now to take the hometown guy.

I don't see the temptation. I have him as the the third best RB prospect this year and he could end up 4th before the draft. I think he's a first rounder, but I sure wouldn't be tempted to take him anywhere close to the top 10.

That would be very impressive if its true. CJ Spiller runs a 4.35, i have a hard time believing Beanie Wells is as fast as CJ Spiller.
