Shark Pool Mock Draft - V1.0. (2 Viewers)

Maybe the pick was a "poison pill" to get back at everyone? :)
For what?
:clyde:
Andy gets it. I was just kidding about it being a poison pill. My guess is he made a quick pick without realizing it and stepped away. Now it is either wait for an undetermined amount of time or replace the pick. I would think it is understandable to say he made an error and we don't know when he will be back so making a replacement selection would be considered acceptable since the delay was caused by his mistake.
Thanks. Hit the nail right on the head... I had a couple of guys in mind.1. Clint Sintim, OLB2. Darrius Heyward-Bey3. Eben Britton4. Brian Cushing5. Alex Mack6. Perria Jerry

Screw this. The first page was updated and a ctrl+f would have found Cushing's name...

1.27 - Peria Jerry, DT - Ole Miss

The Colts biggest problem this season was in stopping the run. Having Quinn Pitcock quit just before the season started was a huge problem. They need to get some talent to take pressure off Freeney and Jerry is it. He's very good in both run stopping and pass rushing, excelling in the latter.

I considered a WR like Hakeem Nicks or Kenny Britt. I also thought of a CB since I've read they're considering moving toward a more press coverage type defense but none of the guys left on the board seem to fit.
Sorry guys, I don't know how I missed that... I don't think Jerry is the answer but I understand.

I would have gone with Alex Mack, C, California next
Didn't the Colts draft 3 centers last year? I cannot see them going there in the first round..

Well, I for one think the speed of the draft is fine. We are alomost done the first round, and we started Monday. If people are sick of checking every 10 minutes, then don't. Wait till you get a PM. It is a slow draft, people need to realize not everyone is by a computer all day.

 It's only February...we have plenty of time to finish this thing.

No Sir...1 in the 6th rd. Steve Justice...

Mike Pollak move to "C" when Saturday was out.

The Eagles would be in a great position if the draft does fall this way. There are several players currently on the board that I would love to take here. I would love to see the Birds go with Alex Mack here. I love the kid and think he had an outstanding Senior Bowl. Many Eagles fans would love to see a WR taken here, however I feel quite fine with the guys we do have. If there was a top TE available that would be the pick, however there isnt. So...

At #28 The Philadelphia Eagles select: LeSean McCoy RB - Pittsburgh

The reason:

Brian Westbrook clearly can not stay healthy. As great as he is, his body just can not hold up to an NFL 16 game schedule. A pass catching RB is crucial to the current offense the Eagles run and with out a superior talent at half back the offense sputters. IMO McCoy would be the #1 back on Phillys draft board. McCoy can run, catch and something most fans over look, he has the ability to pass block. Westbrook turns 30 this year and that is the kiss of death for most NFL backs. The Eagles selection of McCoy allow him to spell Westbrook and learn the offense just in time for him to take over the full time duties in a year or two.

Great pick IMO. I think he will be the best RB fit for the Philly system.

Love this pick, the guy has some character issues but I agree that he could become Brian Westbrook 2.0 for the Eagles. Nice pick

I'm not upset with the pick, but at the same time I'd not feel good about it until I saw their later selections to get the bigger picture. The 3 things that Philly should obtain by the end of Day 1 (if not in FA beforehand) are help at RB, WR and at O-line.

If their 2nd round pick combined with these two firsts can accomplish it, so be it. I just question whether going OT/RB gets a good enough WR in Round 2 - or if another order of drafting gets more value overall.

I would have prefered to sure up the defense with a pick of William Moore, S, Mizzou. But I think they will draft a RB fairly early in this draft. I don't see any way that they draft a WR in the 1st rd. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if they went with another lineman.

Go with me on the this one fellas and let's play perfect world scenario. The Colts are 2 millions over the cap, so we are going to let Marvin (save 6mil) and Jeff go. Ask Peyton to restructure his contract (he counts 21 millions against the cap going into '09), along with Brock, Diem, and Brackett. This allow them to make some moves during the FA period. I know Polian isn't too big on FA shopping, but Haynesworth (7yrs 60mil) needs to be holding a Colts uniform come March. The window is closing for the Colts and there isn't an impact DT this late in the draft, so I can't justify taking one in the 1st rd. Here we go.

With the 27th pick of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select....

1.27 Alex Mack, C, Cal

With the departure of J. Saturday the 'C' position is a must and Mack is the closest thing to a "Nick Mangold" (instant impact) in this year draft. In the Senior Bowl, he proved that he is the elite center in this draft and probably the best center prospect of the past 5 years.

Watching the picks go down, I had a feeling this 1st round would turn out pretty nice for Philly. They got OL help with the 1st pick, then after there was really no team that was going to be a threat to take McCoy. He looks taylor made for the Philly offense but nobody else was going to go after him because he's not considered an every-down back and no one else was going to want him like Philly. He looks like he could be a Westbrook clone.

Don't forget TE or Safety, but they might be able to address that via trade. I was hoping Brandon Pettigrew could drop to 21, he still could but it sounds as if his stock is on the rise.

Very solid pick. OT & RB are the big needs. Regarding TE, the only reson it's a need is that the FO whiffed last year on a deal for Gonzalez, and I think he should be a major target if he wants out of KC. getting him essentially would cover a WR need, because he's that good.

Good pick here. Also, regarding Mack, since you mentioned him: apparently he can play any position on the line (from the research I've done on him). That flexibility would make him a really nice player to have.

I guess I'm not totally sure why. They don't have a stud WR but is there one of those in this draft that they can reach? Jackson, Curtis, Avant isn't that bad of a group, and Brown, Baskett, Lewis can fill the gaps. I'd think an athletic TE would be a bigger need if that's how you're drafting. Celek played decent enough at the end of the year but he's nothing special and LJ is useless.

Do you really think their WR's are that big of a concern? DJax is clearly a player, Curtis when healthy showed how good he can be this year. I love the emergence of Avant and when given the chance Basket can make some plays. In fact I really hope they do not draft a WR at all this year.

At #29 the New York Giants Select - Larry English, OLB

I know there have been a number of mock drafts with the Giants taking a WR in the 1st round, but I don’t agree with that strategy. First, I think the value at WR in this draft is later on, not with this pick. None of the remaining WRs come across as the best player available regardless of position at this point. Second, it’s way too early to assume Burress is gone. Bloomberg said something about making an example out of him in the heat of the moment at the time of the crime, but the fact is that the mayor of NYC has more important things he should be focusing on and I don’t think this is going to be the witch hunt that some seem to make it out to be. Burress is going to roll out his team of $600/hour lawyers and in the end I think the outcome will be similar to most other outcomes involving a rich and famous defendant – he will come to an agreement to pay a fine and maybe serve a little time in jail but most importantly it will be worked around his career, which he will be allowed to resume, most likely with an additional suspension handed out by Goodell.

Even if Burress is done, the Giants have already invested a good amount at WR and have some good prospects there. I know they came up short in Burress’ absence late last year, but they are all under 25 years old (Hixon, Smith and Manningham mainly) and have a lot of room to grow. The main problem with this group for the long term is that they are mainly possession types. Hixon and Manningham have the potential to be a more dynamic threat, but I would highly prefer the team gets a cheap role player type of WR for the short term whose role will be to go deep and stretch the field. D. Henderson would be a good fit in that regard and would be able to fill that role the team hoped Sinorice Moss would fill when they traded up in the 2nd round to get him a few years ago. Henderson would play a good complimentary role to Hixon and Smith, leaving Manningham some time to mature and the overall quality of the WR corps just fine. I definitely think there are much more pressing needs than WR.

If they do want a WR here, I think the value is better served by trading this pick for a proven veteran like Boldin who can certainly replace Burress, instead of taking a rookie and hoping that one day he can replace Burress. I know Boldin will also cost a lot towards the salary cap, but he will also far out-produce any rookie so he will be earning that money. By getting rid of Burress they will open up some cap space to sign a player like Boldin anyway so salary cap cost is not as much of a concern in this case as it would be in others.

IMO the 2 biggest needs for the Giants are OLB and OT. I considered a couple of OTs here, but in the end not only does English fill probably the single biggest need for this team, but he is also the best player available in general at this point. The Giants actually need 2 new starting OLBs, not just one, but English provides a potentially huge upgrade on the strong side. This would also allow Kiwanuka to stay at DE where he is best suited and where he can rotate with Tuck and Osi and provide insurance in case of injury. Ultimately this pick will wind up providing significant upgrades at both DE and OLB since the backup DE if Kiwanuka were to move back to OLB is nothing special, just like Kiwanuka is at OLB.

TE is a need by I have it O-Line, RB, WR and TE in that order of needs. The team can survive with the current cast at WR and TE, but both could use improvement. O-line and RB need players and may not be viable without depth.

The more I read about Mack the more interested I am in him. To be honest he was going to be the pick at 21 because I figured the Lions would go with Britton. I was happy Britton fell to the Eagles but I would have been happy with Mack.

The Eagles got the flexible, every position, player last year in Mike McGlynn. Would the Lions think Britton is the best move at that point or Laurianitis, Jerry, English, etc? They have so many issues.

It's no longer an eye glaring priority but I think they do need one more guy that you can say is a legit No. 1 threat. DeSean jackson may develop in to that but I don't think it's going to happen next year. I think if they could get Housh for the right price he's be OK but draft wise may be take a flyer Kenny Britt if he's there in the 2nd round.

If the Eagles want a legit #1 threat in their WR corps for 2009, they'd better get him through FA or a trade. They won't get that guy in this year's draft. Kenny Britt may be a project for someone. I personally don't see him having a huge impact in 2009.

I'm getting nervous that my guy won't be available at 2.04 for Seattle. Nails bitten off. I'm a wreck.
Feel your pain there. Luckily we have alot of needs. Just do me a favor and don't take my guy.
I'm screwed. My guy has had his name thrown about too much. You too?
I was really hoping for Matthews. I knew his stock had been rising, but I really didn't anticipate just how much. I've got a short list going and so far so good. :fingersstillcrossed:

I agree, as far as an impact player, Crabtree is probably the only one at WR in the draft.

I would have prefered to sure up the defense with a pick of William Moore, S, Mizzou. But I think they will draft a RB fairly early in this draft. I don't see any way that they draft a WR in the 1st rd. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if they went with another lineman.
Moore might be there in the second round for them.

I have a feeling a lot of Lions fans won't like this pick, but I think it would be a great addition and it ties in with the Stafford pick.

20. Detroit Lions select: Brandon Pettigrew TE Oklahoma State

I don't really think the O-lineman available here are any different than the guys who will be available at the top of round 2. I would have taken Davis at CB if he'd fallen here, but really this pick came down to Pettigrew or Laurinaitis.

Adding Pettigrew should give them a reliable underneath target for Stafford while teams are doubling and tripling Calvin Johnson, plus Pettigrew is a very good blocking TE and that will benefit Kevin Smith and the running game.

I kinda view Pettigrew as a more athletic Heath Miller and that is well worth a mid first round pick in my eyes.

This pick gives the Lions a very promising set of skill position starters with Stafford, Smith, Calvin and now Pettigrew.
You would be correct, Sir. If the Lions end up with Stafford & Pettigrew as their first round, fans will revolt. We spent the past eight years hearing how you build a team from the inside out, only to see the front office do the exact opposite of what they preach. We are not looking for glitz and glamour in this draft. We want O & D-line and linebackers. Anything else prior to our second pick in the 3rd round and gaskets will be blown. We had the worst D in the league and it wasn't scheme, it was talent (or lack there of). I applaud the effort, but I pray you are wrong.
Going 0-16 is ok, but drafting non-lineman would cause a revolt? Just don't see the logic of taking O-lineman just to take them. I feel Stafford is the best player in the draft(except for maybe Crabtree) and Pettigrew is a much better value at #20 than any of the O-lineman(not a big fan of Britton)

Its not like O-line is the Lions one big need. Everything(except for WR and maybe RB) is a big need. So BPA makes a lot of sense to me.

If Millen were drafting, the 1st 2 picks likely would have been Crabtree and Harrell, with the logic being that they really looked good against A&M or something like that.

At #29 the New York Giants Select - Larry English, OLB
Another bullet dodged...
I really wanted Mathews, but English is good as well.
I like the pick. Do you think Britt will be available when the Giants pick in the 2nd (with the Saints #2)?
It's a possibility, but I doubt it. I wrote a few paragraphs on what I think the Giants should do at WR with regards to the 1st round pick, but if a guy like Britt does fall to the 2nd I think the value is much better than reaching for a WR in the 1st.

The Titans pick DARRIUS HEYWARD-BEY, WR, MARYLAND
Sorry man....gone @ 26 to Baltimore
Just saw that(late).Titans pick Peria, Jerry DT Mississippi
Not much to say other than excellent value in a position of great need if Haynesworth leaves. Jerry would be a steal this late in the first.
Agreed. Nice pick. One of two things happen....either replace Haynesworth or make that line even better.

Okay, so if I get this right, we seem to have proceeded okay with Lucky Lefty going back and taking Alex Mack instead of Peria Jerry. So then we're going like this:

1.27 Alex Mack

1.28 LeSean McCoy

1.29 Larry English

1.30 Peria Jerry

Right?

I read a chat with Gil Brandt today and he said the Titans have franchised Haynesworth already. That can't be right can it?

And are the Giants going to do with English what they did with Kiwanuka - turn a DE into an OLB?

Looks right by my count as well.

Too much value to pass up. I as hoping for one of the better linebackers or WR's but they were gone. Thought about Nicks, but couldn't pass up a nice DT.

Jason Hanson might disagree. Seriously, though the Lions OL is just awful - to not address it with either of the first 2 picks might help Stafford get killed back there - unless they keep Pettigrew in to block a lot, but then why take him? We'll get to see how they screw it up for real when draft day comes.

I thought there was a provision in his contract stating if he makes the Pro Bowl, they cannot franchise him. Either Way, I think Jerry is a good pick for Tenn. That DL could be flat out dominant with an interior of Haynesworth and Jerry.

That's right. They can't franchise him unless they found a loophole(doubtful).
