He's still a FA and no one is really sniffing around. I doubt he laces them up again as he probably thinks he's worth a lot more than NFL teams do.Does anybody have any news on Shaun? Thanks for the info guys..
At this point, I think he realizes he's worth nothing and would take any job to stay in the NFL.He's still a FA and no one is really sniffing around. Why? SA doesn't strike as that type of player. He's one of the more rare circumstances that he got his huge payday so why does he need a 500K paycheck? He was never the type of guy to take hits and grind it out and any team that would pay him would certainly expect him to do that.If a starter gets hurt and a team is desparate he may find an opportunity but even in that case I don't know if he's got the ability or desire at this point. At this point, I think he realizes he's worth nothing and would take any job to stay in the NFL.He's still a FA and no one is really sniffing around. I've heard John Clayton remark a number of times on local radio shows here in Seattle that he is pretty sure that he'll find a job this year due to injury. "He's the best RB on the street" he has said. The difficulty so far, he has said, is that the teams that have had a need have been the one cut and go type of blocking teams, rather than the teams that would favor the more deliberate running style that Shaun uses.
I would think that he would realize that in order to get a starting job, with starters pay, he needs to get back in the league pronto and prove he can still play. If not, why not just retire? Why? It's a good move for him to wait financially...teams pay more when they're desperate.I would think that he would realize that in order to get a starting job, with starters pay, he needs to get back in the league pronto and prove he can still play. I wonder how much of that huge payday he actually received.SA signed an 8-year, $63 million deal with $15 in guarantees. Contracts these days include roster bonuses as guaranteed money, but in reality they are only guaranteed if the player remains on the club.He only played two years on that deal and I'm pretty confident that the contract was back loaded and his first couple years were for lower dollars. IIRC, he would have received $4.4 million in salary this year.I can't find a breakdown of how much he collected off of that contract, but I would not be surprised if he only collected $20 million (or less). While we in the real world cuold live a lifetime off of that, I'm not sure that puts him in the clear financially and he may very well be insisting on a bigger pay day (a la Ty Law).Banger said:He's one of the more rare circumstances that he got his huge payday so why does he need a 500K paycheck?
Good points and I didn't think he got the whole thing but I thought it'd be enough to live a comfortable life away from the game ($20 mill). He'll be waiting a while if he thinks he's getting another payday. The $15 mill and a few more over the first couple of years of the contract. The guy should be set. He had some endorsements, the cover of Madden for a year (IIRC), as well as money from his first contract. I think the most important thing to him is starting....For me, I would wonder why he wouldn't go someplace like Arizona or Houston where those in front of him are a stiff breeze away from going on the DL? I would rather take that gamble than play the waiting game where he has to actually be hoping that people get hurt.I wonder how much of that huge payday he actually received.Banger said:He's one of the more rare circumstances that he got his huge payday so why does he need a 500K paycheck?

Sorry this strikes me as funny. "The deliberate running style" what does "un-deliberate style" look like, running into the back out your lineman and falling sideways. If that is what you mean then yes that is the running style last exhibited by Shawn Alexander.I've heard John Clayton remark a number of times on local radio shows here in Seattle that he is pretty sure that he'll find a job this year due to injury. Sorry I think I horriblly mistyped my above response -I need to learn to proofread before clicking post.I meant to illustrate that SA has anything but a deliberate running style.:( Deliberate:Sorry this strikes me as funny. 1. carefully weighed or considered; studied; intentional: a deliberate lie.
2. characterized by deliberation; careful or slow in deciding: a deliberate decision.
3. leisurely and steady in movement or action; slow and even; unhurried: a deliberate step.
better than taking a kicker. i like it.I plan on rolling the dice on SA in the last round of my draft.
I did that 3 years ago in a dynasty league with Ricky Williams. Might actually pay off for me this year...better than taking a kicker. i like it.I plan on rolling the dice on SA in the last round of my draft.![]()
He also had two years at the franchise RB rate which for some reason I can't recall and don't care to look up. Money is not a problem, he's not Travis Henry. The $15 mill and a few more over the first couple of years of the contract. The guy should be set. Plus he's 31. Older players have been known to extend holdouts, fake retire, even fake injuries etc to avoid going to camp. How long do you think it'll take him to get up to speed on a teams playbook. A week or 2? So why go out in the heat and wear down, get injured/worn down fighting kids for a job. Work out, hang with your family, and wait for the inevitable rash of injuries, and ride into town as a savior, looking good in the 12 games you do play, maybe positioning for a deal/opportunity next year. It's a good move for him to wait financially...teams pay more when they're desperate.I would think that he would realize that in order to get a starting job, with starters pay, he needs to get back in the league pronto and prove he can still play. master pHe's had so much success finding a team, I'm guessing he must have hired Daunte Culpepper as his agent.
You forgot to mention that he suffered a concussion on the hit .Breaking Shaun Alexander News..... He got hit by his 4 year old niece and went down on first contact. He was awful last year. He ran weak and scared. He's not hungry anymore.
I love when people claim that a person, who carried the ball 353 times (plus a play off game) and 370 times (plus a SB run which lead him to have the 6th highest total carries in NFL history for a year at that point) has no heart because they are injured and ineffective in the following years. Hey he signed a big contract, lets ignore the bone spurs in his foot and yell about his lack of heart.TLEF316 said:He was awful last year. He ran weak and scared. He's not hungry anymore.
He ran slow and tentaively before he got hurt in both post MVP seasons. Lewis never lost his mental edge, SA never really had it and what little he did went bye bye when he got his deal. Two completely different kinds of RB.Frank Black said:It's funny that people are writing him off due to him appearing to run tentatively last summer his entire career except his two "contract" years. People wrote Jamal Lewis off 2 seasons ago for similar reasons and Lewis rebounded last season. Yet, so many discount Alexander's chances of rebounding after fully recovering from injury.
I dropped him in our Dynasty Auction league $45 back in my pocket then picked him up off the Free Agent list for $1. Just hope he plays for someone now, even if he doesn't I saved $39 (after the cap hit).I did that 3 years ago in a dynasty league with Ricky Williams.
