Should a team be allowed to IR T Richardson? (1 Viewer)

SE2010

With the trade that just happened, I was posed a question to allow a team to IR T Richardson if he doesn't play this weekend?

In our league we allow IRing of players if they are hurt to allow for the play of a waiver wire player. If the IRed player were to come back in the game and even play 1 snap, the waiver wire guy would be dropped and the IRed player would be put back in the starting lineup. It is an anti Bellicheck/Shanahan (DEN) move.

What are your guys thoughts about this? Should it be allowed or not. Team in question isn't whining about it, just wondering what they can do. This is such a unique situation that I wanted to see others opinions. Personally my opinion is no, however I can be easily swayed with the right argument.

Thanks!

Is Richardson hurt? If yes, then allowed. If no, seems to break your rule.

It should be based on however your league designates IR. For example some leagues allow you to IR a guy if he's listed as doubtful or out. From the sound of things that isn't going to happen with Richardson, though.

League rules rule all. If the league allows to IR a non-injured player then that needs to be tightened up, likely in the off-season unless it is a very friendly league.

A commissioner always has the right to invoke a "intent of the rule" clause in my leagues. That clause has never been abused. There is also a co-commissioner to provide a check and balance.

Unless Richardson is ruled out for the game prior to kickoff, I wouldn't allow it. However, if Indy says he's playing, even if in a limited role, you gotta treat him like any other player.

ETA - What do you mean by if the "player is hurt"? Do they have to some certain degree of formal injury designation (Probable, Questionable...)

Thanks for the replies. This was posted right before INDY announced that he was going to play this weekend and had been listed as inactive. As a few of the comments indicated, he's going to play, so I'm not going to worry about it.

It's such a unique situation that I haven't seen in 20 yrs (high round fantasy pick swapping teams unexpectedly). Maybe this will be more of the norm we'll see from teams, who knows...

I wouldn't allow even if if didn't play, he's be a healthy inactive. You don't allow IR for healthy inactives do you?

it's not common, but not unusual. in baseball, people get traded in season all the time. The IR isn't some Mulligan Purgatory for owners that don't get to have a guy full speed for one week
