Should I trade for Hanley? (1 Viewer)

So I've had a softspot for Hanley since picking him up as a late round flier in his rookie season with Florida and watching him lead me to a championship. In '07, I took him in the third and he ended up leading me to another championship. Well, after that, the rest of the fantasy world caught on, and he became a consensus top 3 pick, and I haven't owned him since. Now I have a chance to get him again.

The offer is:

Hanley and Ankiel

for

Morneau, Ludwick, and Theriot

Theriot and Ankiel are more or less throwins, as both are pretty much replacement level players.

So the meat of the deal is Hanley for Morneau and Ludiwck

The league is head to head, daily lineup changes, AVE, OPS, R, HR, RBI, SB

My offense looks like this:

C: Y. Molina

1B: Teixeira

2B: A. Ramirez

3B: Longoria

SS: Theriot

OF: McLouth

OF: Kemp

OF: Ludwick

Util: Morneau

BN: I. Stewart

BN: D. Fowler

I would probably move Alexei to OF in the meantime and Stewart to 2B until I can find a suitable OF replacement. I don't really like the idea of having Ankiel as my Util, but I imagine if I work the waiver wire agressively I can find a suitable replacement for Morneau in time.

Is Hanley worth all that? I think from a sheer value perspective, he probably is. But looking at it from the effect it will have on my lineup, I have my doubts. I'm also a little worried about his sore back and his lack of success running early on.

Thoughts?

Oh, my other concern is McLouth's oblique and how long that will keep him sidelined. But there are some okay option on the wire in Hermida or maybe even Nyjer Morgan.

I did some negotiating and got him the offer to this:

Hanley, Damon, Adam Laroche

for

Theriot, Ludwick, Morneau

I think I'm going to accept. Laroche should put up about 80% or more of Morneau's numbers, Damon is an okay replacement for Ludwick for the time being, and Hanley is Hanley.

The go ahead from you and Finless. Halfway there.

Send him an email that says "Switch out Konerko and Laroche and it's done". I'd still take it as it stands even though Laroche will be worthless in 2 months.

This thread will make baseball forum history if his wrist is broken. I'd hate it because I own the guy, but still....

Picks the guy up and within 3 minutes he's out for the season.

Hopefully it's just a broken finger or something along those lines.

I'd kind of like to murder John Maine right now.

####. I just accepted.
Any gentleman's rules in place in this league that would allow the trade to be nullified by a circumstance like this?
Not sure. For now I'll just cross my fingers and hope for the best. From what I've read elsewhere it sounds pretty bad. 95 MPH fastball and he screamed in pain.
Take it from a guy who saw it live. It was ugly. I'm no doctor, but my guess is he's going to miss some time. If this is a friendly league, I can't imagine that they would have a problem with canceling the trade. Is the guy you are trading with a decent guy?

Yeah he is, one of my better friends from back east and my big brother from my fraternity.I'd feel bad having the trade rescinded though. I think I'll just take whatever lumps come from this.If he's out for the season, so be it.

Broken finger can keep a guy out for 8 weeks
Yeah, but that's better than a shattered wrist or hand bone sidelining him for the season. From everything I've heard/read, something is most likely broken. Finger is the best case scenario.Having your hand crushed into a wooden bat by a 95 MPH fastball, though, I'm guessing it's worse then just a finger.#### John Maine.

That's a good attitude to have. Pretty crazy situation. Good luck with whatever happens and keep us updated.

In thinking about it, this is pretty good timing. I'm playing my trade partner this week, and it will take 3 days for the trade to be pushed through.

So, he'll likely be without Hanley's services during that time.
