Cinnamon Girl is a fantastic tune. Old Man and a few other are really good. But he often gets a bit too whiny with the singing for me to like his whole catalog.rockaction said:Can I commit heresy for a moment? I don’t like Neil Young.
Was hoping he would be top 10 but this is a fine spot and a fine choice for my favorite artist
Yeah - that bass is slappin'. And then -43. Yes - Heart of the Sunrise
I love how this song just knocks you on your ### right from the start.
We were born before the wind
As I was posting I was thinking I needed to move it up more, but this has been exhausting to get "right". I'm not changing anything going forward. Was hoping he would be top 10 but this is a fine spot and a fine choice for my favorite artist
It makes me think of The Odyssey. Which is perhaps my favorite story ever - the base for O Brother even. Was hoping he would be top 10 but this is a fine spot and a fine choice for my favorite artist
I’m biased but Van gets my vote for true prophetWe were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won
As we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly
Into the mystic
And when that fog horn blows
I will be coming home, mmm mmm
And when the fog horn blows
I want to hear it
I don't have to fear it
I wanna rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float
Into the mystic
When that fog horn blows
You know I will be coming home
And when that fog horn whistle blows
I gotta hear it
I don't have to fear it
And I wanna rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float
Into the mystic
Come on girl
Will they stop now
Like with Leonard, I cannot add or delete a thing. This is genius.
Yeah. They are still a thing.I’m biased but Van gets my vote for true prophet
I can’t accurately rate Van. I grew up too biased. How does his music sound to someone who didn’t grow up with it so deeply pressed into their daily life?As I was posting I was thinking I needed to move it up more, but this has been exhausting to get "right". I'm not changing anything going forward.
Sounds pretty damn good.I can’t accurately rate Van. I grew up too biased. How does his music sound to someone who didn’t grow up with it so deeply pressed into their daily life?
I read the thread title, thought I’d drop a hot FFA post!Hey good buddy. Dynamite drop-in.
Fantastic song. 100% nailed this one.
I listened then and now. You touched on how such simple observations of Van's can be truly moving lyrics when properly done.I recently posted this in another thread but this is peak Van Morrison live
Snow in San Anselmo Live
Not too many rock bass players have that ability to power the instrument right up front and centers. Squire was certainly one, Geddy Lee another, but the list probably isn’t that long.Yeah - that bass is slappin'. And then -![]()
Fun fun fun song.37. Modest Mouse - Float On
I just got into these guys a few years ago, and I love their sound. I seem to be a latecomer to a number of bands that originated between 1990-2010, which will be well-documented here with my remaining picks.
It's better than Purple Haze.
This is my #1 ALL TIME fav artist and song.
Simple but it’s poetryI listened then and now. You touched on how such simple observations of Van's can be truly moving lyrics when properly done.
Snow in San Anselmo
The deer cross by the lights
The mission down in old San Rafael
A madman looking for a fight
A madman looking for a fight
The massage parlor's open
The clientele come and they go
The classic music station
Plays in the background soft and low
Plays in the background soft and low
The silence round the cascades
The ice crisp and clear
The beginning of the opera
Seem to suddenly appear
Seem to suddenly appear
The pancake house is always crowded
Open twenty four hours of every day
And if you suffer from insomnia
You can speed your time away
You can speed your time away
Snow in San Anselmo
My waitress my waitress my waitress
Said it was coming down
Said it hadn't happened in over thirty years
But it was laying on the ground
But it was laying on the ground
On the live version I swear he says “open only 24 hours of every day” and it’s so powerfulSimple but it’s poetry
Honestly, I would not be disappointed.I think I've got the code figured out now.
The #1 song is going to be Xanadu by Oliva Newton John.
You're being punished twice this weekend? Condolences.urbanhack said:If we have internet and I have enough juice in my phone and speaker, I'm going to be putting the shuke-spotify-playlist on shuke-shuffle© all weekend while camping and disc golfing.
Love this, but Truckers Atlas or Parting of the Sensory is my favorite Modest Mouse song.37. Modest Mouse - Float On

Saturday 12 -1
samesies, amigo41. Steely Dan - Reelin' in the Years
But I just really can't get into them. I've never owned one of their albums.
I’ve mentioned a few times over the years my love for Brown Eyed Girl - my wife has brown eyes and both my daughters do. I can’t listen to the song without almost choking up. It would undoubtedly be my favorite VM song but you picked his best one - I wanna rock your gypsy soul.
Yes, Squire could shake the rafters in a live setting. Not too many rock bass players have that ability to power the instrument right up front and centers. Squire was certainly one, Geddy Lee another, but the list probably isn’t that long.
It is awesome. Grand Funk is very underrated.42. Grand Funk Railroad - I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home
What else is there to say about this other than it's awesome?
yes everybody has said this.OMG THATS A TERRIBLE PICK I LIKE OTHER SONGS MUCH BETTER
Another good oneIt is awesome. Grand Funk is very underrated.
Do you eat your meat from a cup often?... just not my cup o'meat ...
Your meat is "noodly"?... meh, i find it all to "noodly" and pretentious ...
Meat jam?... i'm not one who can stomach any of the jam
I don't polish my meat.folks blag on about how perfectly polished these chaps are
Meat pie?- gimme the raw and dirty and gritty and grimey and chaotic and sloppy ...
yeah - you a wonky.- yeah, i'm a wonky,
Oh - yeah. I knows.it's the quinn-tessential way, don'tcha know 🐿
Nice, haven't listed to these guys in years.37. Modest Mouse - Float On

Very interesting second choice. I don't know anyone that really likes that song. On the other side of the coin, I don't know anyone who doesn't at least appreciate Heart of the Sunrise once they have heard it. The rhythm section is just on fire throughout that whole song and Anderson's voice cuts right through that base perfectly.43. Yes - Heart of the Sunrise
I love how this song just knocks you on your ### right from the start.
I was never really a prog rock fan, but after I heard this used in Buffalo 66, I fell in love with Yes and a lot of their early catalog.
I can't find the actual movie clip, but here is a somewhat funny recreation.
Close second: South Side of the Sky
