Shuke's 1400 favorite songs by 1400 different artists. (4 Viewers)

In all the chaos tonight, I forgot to note that this was a SPECIAL GUEST SELECTION or whatever I was calling it.
Binky chose Spiral Architect as one of his top 3.
I have never heard this song b4 - as far as I can recall.

Ah - it is a reunion release.

Sweet!

Sorcerers of madness
Selling me their time
Child of god sitting in the sun
Giving peace of mind
Fictional seduction
On a black snow sky
Sadness kills the superman
Even fathers cry

Of all the things I value most of all
I look inside myself and see
My world and know that it is good
You know that I should

Superstitious century
Didn't time go slow
Separating sanity
Watching children grow
Synchronated undertaker
Spiral skies
Silver ships on plasmic oceans
In disguise

Of all the things I value most in life
I see my memories and feel their warmth
And know that they are good
You know that I should

Watching eyes of celluloid
Tell you how to live
Metaphoric motor-replay
Give, give, give
Laughter kissing love is showing me the way
Spiral city architect
I build, you pay

Of all the things I value most of all
I look upon my earth and feel the warmth
And know that it is good
You know that I should
You know that I should
You know that I should
You know that I should
You know that I should

172. Red Rider - Lunatic Fringe

At one point in my life I thought this was a Pink Floyd song.  I think it's because of what sounds like a British siren around the 3:48 mark.  Sorry @zamboni
This song has always given me a chill in a good way.

The echo-y vocals and rising riffs and popping-in keyboard ...

Lunatic fringe
I know you're out there
You're in hiding
And you hold your meetings
I can hear you coming
I know what you're after
We're wise to you this time (wise to you this time)
We won't let you kill the laughter

... and of course the wailing solo - David Gilmour-esque. I see why you thought Floyd.

190. Sam and Dave - Hold on I'm coming

While Soul Man holds a spot in my heart (it's my go-to karaoke song, and I can bring the house down with it; I actually sang it a few times with a buddy's band at some college gigs, as a "guest" performer), this song is just better.
Al Jackson, Jr was the greatest drummer the world has ever heard on this one. And those horns!  Metal bands have spent decades trying to do with guitars what the Memphis Horns did with that brass. Oh, the singers were ok, too.

I could make a really good case that this is the best rock and roll record of all time.

Every white kid at Miami University played this album when you had a young lady in your dorm room.

This was not the song where you made your move, however.
How much redundancy can there be? Oxford, OH, might be the whitest place on earth according to my ex, who went there. And dated one of the two people of color on campus. Tennis player's girl, her. I think there was an actual threat of him being deported back to Africa. Bill Clinton was president. These were heady times, and another personal anecdote.

Yes!  I love that documentary!

Just realizing that this record and Seven Swans both came out around 15 years ago.  Seems like yesterday.  Not that many people in this thread would like the movie, but one of my five favorite films of the last several years is "Call Me By Your Name," which featured a stunning soundtrack by Sufjan Stevens.

@Dan Lambskin, I performed with our Bulldolls twice at Kings Island.

This deserved some love or reactions.  Enjoyed it immensely.  Love the strings.
Once again in first place

181. Beastie Boys - You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Party

I don't know if there's another song/video that better reminds me of youth, hanging out with all the kids in my neighborhood.

Possibly the best 4 lines of lyrics ever put together:

Your pop caught you smoking, and he said, no way!
That hypocrite smokes two packs a day
Man, living at home is such a drag
Now your mom threw away your best porno mag

Also considered: Sabotage
Your pick is much more iconic but I’ve always liked this one the best:
