Shuke's 1400 favorite songs by 1400 different artists. (3 Viewers)

1. Grateful Dead - Eyes of the World

Ate the ripe age of 16 years and one month, my parents let me go with 3 other guys from Dayton to Cincinnati to see the Grateful Dead.  My life would never be the same.  I didn't know many of the songs I heard at the time, but I loved it all, including this song played in the second set and straight into drums.

The live album I linked to was released in April 1991, right before I graduated high school.  I bought it immediately.  Later that fall, my good friends and I drove up to Cleveland to see the Dead play at the Richfield Coliseum.  I can't remember if I had started school at UC yet, but this was with my high school friends, and were all parting different ways.  The show was where the Cavs used to play, but was out in the middle of nowhere. There was a campground nearby where we stayed with thousands others, and we able to walk to and from the show(s).  I believe there were two that weekend but can't remember if we went to both.  Regardless, it was one of the greatest weekends of my life.

I know others may point to better versions of the song, there are some great ones with Branford Marsalis on sax.  But I've listen to this live album more than anything in my life. And probably this song more than any other.

Not sure how Nipsey knew this.
And ... as I now listen to this ... finishing the final flow ... the Shuke Code clarifies itself ...

Yes. Yes! YES!!!!

oh ...

Imagine guessing the exact #1 song.... and then getting the band to play it for their opener just hours before it's revealed as the #1 song. This is Copperfield territory.
I am impressed. 🧙‍♂️

Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world
The heart has it's beaches, it's homeland and thoughts of it's own
Wake now, discover that you are the song that the morning brings
But the heart has it's seasons, it's evenings and songs of it's own

I think you are stoned ... 🐻

Which is great. 🐼
No idea what you're talking about.
Well --- ya see,

I am watching this:

... on a repeat loop ...

... while listening to this:

... which is actually better than this:

So - does that explain it?

Eh, prolly not. 🤪

3. Pink Floyd - Time

I love the alarms.  I love the first part that sounds like something out of a spaghetti western, I love the lyrics, everything about this song is perfect.  I've always felt this was the greatest album of all time.  Watching the Dark Side of the Rainbow solidified it.  The entire album now feels different, like its ingrained in my soul.  I don't know maybe I'm high.

Also considered: Echoes, Shine on you Crazy Diamond, Fearless, Pigs, Dogs

This is all accurate.

Thank you Shuke.  This was fantastic even with the omission of Tool and Soundgarden.  You’ve opened my eyes to some new (to me) music that I’ll be checking out.

I HAD THIS at 5Dimes for +60000 ... was well worth the spec!  :towelwave:

it wasn't the finish line that made this endeavor great ... it was the journey - and we're all better for it - i laughed, i cried; i soul searched ... i was moved. i was taken outta my bubble and shook (Shuked?) by never before heard aural sculptures - i vomited twice.  i almost procreated after spotlighting TEDDY P - and now i'm hungover on a sloppy summer Sunday, wanting desperately to #### Dove Cameron or to hit Gulfstream with EG because this thread is over.  it leaves a void.

i'm sure it will hang first page for quite some time, and deservedly so - it's as epic as @Eephus waxing poetic about his strolls with Bosley ... it rivals @Man of Constant Sorrow in his face paint - i have been as entertained as any human oughtta be allowed ... to quote Henry Hill: "and now it's over".

i am not a night shift fella, so skimming this mutha with my morning coffee and smokes has been ... cathartic.  it took me off my game. now, left to my own devices, i will go back to morning runs - and i mean track, not terlit - i wanna ####### Hipple every last gotdamn tune i missed until the USWNT hits the pitch tomorrow. i wanna do that 'til they do that.

allow me to bow out gracefully ... i'll leave the lights on for MoCS.

thank you, @shuke

For those of us on Amazon Music, would be amazing if someone could make this into a public Shuke’s top 1000 playlist.  Any volunteers?  My interns are all tied up on other projects at the moment.

Killer job, shuke. There are tons of songs that I’ve never heard, so I have a lot of homework ahead the rest of the summer. 🎧

Congratulations on the completion of this monumental thread. Also thanks for making sure Cinci rolled out the red carpet for me this weekend - i had a blast. It’s a very underrated city.

By the way, I think you hit every one of my other favorite songs from my favorite albums. The beauty of this pick is you nailed the #1 spot I think, but you also nailed the other contenders, including those that are far less known. Nailed my two favorite songs off the wildly underappreciated Meddle. And if Dogs isn’t my anthem that makes me regularly stop and think about my life choices, nothing is.

Genius. Makes up for the Nickelback whiff.

@shuke once again great job. We have pretty similar musical tastes which helps - but there were many songs I hadn’t heard that were great.

Would you take offense at some people listing “omissions”? Obviously your 1,000 is your 1,000 but maybe it would be fun to see what was “left off”.

Are those the 2 most high profile rock bands excluded?
Probably I didn’t go through the whole list but those are 2 of my favorite bands so I’ve been waiting for them to be cued up.  He did get Cornell and Audioslave so weird to me Soundgarden didn’t make it considering that’s Cornell’s best work.  Tool is understandably not everyone’s cup of tea but man they kick ###.

Would love to see them.

Nice job @shuke

I'll be honest, in the 200 to 300 range, I really did wonder if you put any thought into the order of these songs, but the top 25 to 50 came on strong.  Not all of those things are up my alley, but I liked that you didn't go with the cliche favorite songs for these classic rock bands. I will be spinning the Shuke 1000 on Spotify until Tuesday at least.

I will think of this thread every time that I hear Part Time Lover.

April 8th, 2019 to June 23rd, 2019 - 2 months, 2 weeks, 1 day or 1,824 hours. Assuming no sleep and working on this thread continuously with no prep work. Go to bed, Shuke.
That was only the countdown.  The bulk of the work was assembling and refining the list.
