Sims-Walker upset

8:31AM ET

Mike Sims-Walker | Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker hasn't been having the most consistent season. His Week 2 10-catch, 105-yard game was intense, but he has just two additional catches for 34 yards, and has been off the stat sheet in two full contests.

"I know I can play," he boasted to the Associated Press. "I know I get open. I know I can catch the ball pretty good and make plays. I'd like to be more involved, but I don't make the play calls around here and I don't make the decisions to throw the ball. It's kind of like it's out of my control. I've just got to roll with the punches for right now."

Sims-Walker also doesn't like taking heat from his fantasy owners on Twitter. "That's the worst part of it," he said. "I've never seen this many bitter people in my life. They're calling me everything in the book: 'I'm benching you, you're this, you're that, you're trash.' It kind of hurts a little bit."

So, will his frustration with offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter (who calls the plays) and QB David Garrard (who makes the decisions on where to throw the ball) make him demand a trade? We're not seeing it get to that level; besides, he's second on the team in receptions, targets and receiving yardage in spite of being shut out in Week 1 and Week 4.

I don't know why but I find it difficult to see how an NFL player gets his feelings hurt by Joe Schmo sending him negative messages on Twitter. Toughen up, guy.

Won't help his cause to remark like this but it is ridiculous. Awful lot of dudes take fantasy way too seriously.
Exactly. It's one thing to ##### about him here but it's extremely lame to send messages to him directly. People have no respect anymore.

I love that commercial that had Peyton Manning rooting on a waitress and some mechanic guy or something, talkin about "I got you on my team!"

It takes a special kind of loser to harrass a person because their pretend football team isn't doing well. Thse nobodys wouldn't say jack to him in person, but they throw anonymous bombs via Twitter?

If there was such a thing as a man-card, it would surely be taken from those buffoons.

Another example of how FF has jumped the shark. It was better when the players didn't know about, or pay attention to, fantasy football. Too much catering to the FF fan by the NFL now, the FF marketing has really ramped up in the past two or three years to the point where it's ad nauseum. MJD has his own fantasy football show. With all the FF sites, Twitter, et. al. it's becoming ridiculous to the point where a starting WR in the NFL actually gives a #### what people who own him in some fantasy league think. As a NFL fan first and a long-time fantasy owner (first league in 1991), the fantasy side is becoming too much a part of it to the point where it's almost a turn off.

I knew this would eventually happen, these thoughts crossed my head in 2007. Now what im really waiting for is a player, such as DeAngelo Williams, to get kidnapped on route to the stadium, so that some psycho who has J.Stewart can win his Fantasy playoff game week 15 ! :X

Hes pretty low on targets. Either he isnt getting open or isnt part of the game plan

Easy there, Chicken Little. Professional athletes have been aware of the roto/fantasy geeks for years. I remember Portis telling people back in 2004 to pick him first overall. (I have a bad memory so that's the only specific one I can think of off the top of my head.) The fact that MSW is butt-hurt because of what some fantasy geeks say speaks volumes about MSW's character, not about FF jumping the shark. If a professional athlete doesn't understand that he has a commitment first to his team and to helping his team win -- and I don't think MSW is necessarily saying that he doesn't care about that -- then that's his own problem. Also, professional athletes have been stat-hungry, selfish divas for many years before fantasy sports came around. Do you think TO whined during his entire career about not getting the ball because he felt he was letting down his FF owners? You seem to be suggesting that FF is going to start changing the way that NFL players play the game. If so, then I'd like to say, in the words of the great Balki Bartokomous: "Don't be ridiculous!"

So extreme! Actually I was just going to have Shane Stant club him on the knee.

He hit the waiver wire in a couple of my leagues and I scooped him up. I'm not sure if that makes me a shark or a guppy.

Why would you trash a player on Twitter? What's the purpose? It's downright rude.

It's not like he's going out there & not trying. I don't think he's a bad guy. Why not just keep it to yourself & dump him from your team if you're not happy with his performance.

I honestly don't get it. A good rule of thumb is if you wouldn't say it to his face, don't say it in the cloud where he can see it (at least not in a direct message). And I'm guessing people wouldn't say it to his face.

Sooo... start him this week?
:excited: I think the answer is yes though I'm not sure I have the guts to do it.
"Bold Prediction: This is going to be Mike Sims-Walker's breakout game. After only having one good game and becoming invisible in the others, I think Sims-Walker will get involved early and often in the passing game and sync up with David Garrard."Link

Due to byes and the lack of viable options on the WW I will probably roll the dice with him again this week.

I honestly find this funny. Now, I am not the kind of guy who would ever send a player a negative twitter based on his play for my fantasy team--seems silly. But I never really thought NFL players cared that much about us. If he knows he is good, then what does he care about what a bunch of arm chair quarterbacks who could never play at his level think?

Accessibility is a two way street. If you want to keep your fans up to date on the riveting details of your life like "picked up dry cleaning", be prepared for them to feel entitled to share back with you.

This guy is the worst kind of fantasy player....maddeningly inconsistent, too good to drop to the waiver wire, not good enough to ever start. On the bright side, his name at least makes my bench seem stronger when I look at it, so there's that.

Likely not rosterable in redraft formats; still a dynasty prospect, especially if he somehow finds his way out of Jacksonville.

I don't fault him for having his feelings hurt. I like to think I don't care what anyone thinks of me because I'm so secure in who I am. But that's a bit of a lie we all tell ourselves from time to time, usually when we're dealing with criticism.

If I got inundated with "you suck" messages for not putting up good stats when I can't throw myself the ball, I can see how that could get to someone. He's always seemed a pretty decent guy except for that booty call last year. He's probably just a bit shy of coming to the realization that there are a bunch of idiots out there with access to twitter who think the WR is the only one responsible for his targets. Once he does realize how stupid a lot of people are, he'll stop letting it get to him.

And yes, tweeting to a player about your fantasy team is lame. Unless of course you can follow up with some contructive criticism about how he didn't run his route correctly or made a bad pre-snap read on the coverage.
