Sinister (1 Viewer)

prosopis

Arizona Chupacabra
I saw Sinister yesterday and enjoyed it. Creepy more then scary but heavy on the creepy. I loved the music which seemed to be a character all its own. Ethan Hawke was good and I felt believable. Love the finger to the mouth shhhh sign given by the kids. Gives me goose bumps now. It was nice to see a new villian/monster type on the scene.

Sounds silly due to wht the film subject was but the one thing that bothered me was

Where did the daughter get the poison?
I realize in a paranormal horror movie this is sort of silly to pick out but to me it stuck out. I certainly looked over lots of other stuff in this film. Officer so and so was very funny. Loved his response to would you live in this house? :lmao:

I say good horror flick and one I will see again when it is out on dvd.

Can't believe there hasn't much discussion about this on here. It's the type of movie you have to see in the theater, though. The music and sound effects are unbelievable.

:goodposting: I have really talked up the music in this movie. Scariest music I may have ever heard. It really stood out.

I prefer creepy to gory. Subtle stuff is more scary to me than flat out gore. Probably will check this out.

I was almost dragged to this movie. I have zero interest in horror movies but still liked it. Gory stuff disgusts me. I wanted to see Argos.

Yea, the gore for gore's sake just turns me off. Never watched any of the Saw films since it seemed like porno for masochists. Some slasher flicks had appeal but most try to show how gruesome a death they can have like Final destination(s). I like the creepy ghost films where you turn your head one way and see nothing but the camera pans back and something's there.

That's exactly what this is. The music is what puts it over the top.

Thanks for pointing out the music...really paid attention to it, and truly enhanced the movie. Incredible stuff.Very dark and quiet here... :scared:

The wife and i liked it alot. What made it worse was we had this older lady behind us who was a screamer. When something popped out, she would just shriek and it scared the crap out of me.

Only complaint--there were some scenes that dragged on too long. With a run-time of 1:51 or so, they could have shaved a minute or two of dialogue off here and there.

Overall, really liked it. I thought the first hour was much creepier and tense, but its hard to say how the last 45 minutes couldve been executed better. Something about the kid ghosts just didnt scare me as much and came off a little cheesy. Like others have said though, the soundtrack was excellent and I also thought the atmosphere and dark, isolated tone it had really stood out. Having a very good actor like Ethan Hawke in the main role I think was also huge, and the fact that this focused on his character's slow learning of the details and descent into terror, with no one else learning the details as well as getting much screen time, really boosted the tension and scare factor. It almost felt like you were in his shoes for the movie because of how much of the movie was with just him. Also props to the ending which you know is coming, but is still enjoyable. Nice small role from Ziggy from The Wire as well!!

I also noticed the poison thing. Thats about the only plot hole I can think of in the movie as there was no explanation how the kid wouldve got that.

My only complaint is about the last 10 minutes or so with Hawke immediately moving his family to their old house. I thought as soon as he was talking to the cop on the phone halfway thru the movie and realized the family that got hung lived in the house with the throat slashings prior, it was clear to me that whatever event Boogie would do would not happen in the same house twice. Thats a huge reason why all these murders were never connected in the first place. Hawke's character was clearly good at putting things together, and him moving out just felt like a blatantly obvious "movie" move for them to die and finish the movie. I wouldve been more interested to see how it panned out had they stayed in the house, and been killed, which also couldve given us an after-murder scene or two to elaborate and see why 2 murders finally happened in the same place or some other explanation or new finding.
I think this is probably the best horror movie of 2012 though. Loved Cabin In The Woods, but I wouldnt consider that a true horror movie.

Holy crap i dont think my heart jumped that many times watching a movie in my life. Great flick!

For everyone here who liked this movie and felt the creepiness was that intense I'd like to recommend The Orphanage as another one to get your heart pumping. I liked Sinister and thought it was as good as all you guys say but The orphanage takes it to another level, imo. fyi
