Six Teams on a BYE in weeks 6 & 7 - Effects? (1 Viewer)

CYUNVme

Footballguy
Anyone else in a pinch with the NFL having 6 teams on a bye in each of the next two weeks? Week 7 alone is going to kill me – virtually my whole WR core is going to be off on a bye. I didn’t draft them that way, but with the emergence of Chicago’s passing game, Colston getting his, Bryant a pleasant surprise, and Holt a perennial stud, I’ve found myself in a bind. Another guy in my league is in the same situation with Edwards, Jennings, Williams, and Harrison – Who’d a thunk it?

Week 6 Teams on a BYE:

Cleveland

Green Bay

Indianapolis

Jacksonville

Minnesota

New England

Week 7 Teams on a BYE:

Baltimore

Chicago

New Orleans

San Francisco

St. Louis

Tennessee

Even with the dead weight of MIN, NE, & TEN – 13 of the top 25 WRs in yardage will be out over the next two weeks!

Here they are:

Derrick Mason (22)

Bernard Berrian (3)

Muhsin Muhammad (19)

Marques Colston (7)

Antonio Bryant (17)

Torry Holt (9)

Issac Bruce (15)

Braylon Edwards (13)

Greg Jennings (12)

Donald Driver (14)

Marvin Harrison (1)

Reggie Wayne (6)

Reggie Williams (24)

Start listing some WW gems and deep sleepers with favorable match ups for the weeks 6 & 7. I think Bryant Johnson could make or break some teams out there in the same situation. Anyone else?

Bryant Johnson will be the top WR off many (if not all) Waiver Wire's this week but he has a brutal matchup. If you grab Johnson (so to speak) how comfortable will you be starting him against the Bears?

Some other guys I like this week who may be available:

Baskett -- real good value if Stallworth doesn't play

Moulds -- nothing special but solid.

Hakim -- was very involved last week after Williams got hurt

Eric Parker -- he's becoming the No. 1 WR and the Chargers have a sweet matchup.

Peerless Price -- don't like him much but this is an outstanding matchup

Mark Clayton -- His targets are on the rise

Samie Parker -- Huard likes throwing to him and he seems to be stealing some of Gonzo's targets.

Bobby Engram -- Always gets overlooked but pretty darn steady (especially in PPR leagues)

Michael Jenkins -- Vick still can't throw for squat but this is a real good matchup for the Falcons.

Great list - As for Johnson, I agree he's a tough fill in for the guys with Week 6 BYEs, but for me, he goes against OAKLAND in Week 7. I'll take it!

Just because Chicago is a much better team than Oakland doesn't mean the Chcago matchup is brutal compared to the Oakland matchup. In fact in PPR and yardage leagues the opposite may be true. Teams are average 15.3 receptions and 144.5 passing yards per game against the Oakland defense. Against the Bears defense it 18.2 receptions and 158.4 yards per game. The biggest difference is Oakland has allowed 8 receiving touchdowns versus Chicago's one. Despite the touchdown difference, I would feel comfortable playing Johnson this week especially given the fact that that it's a Monday night home game for Arizona.

You also have to figure a) Arizona will not be able to run, forcing them to pass and b) they most likely will be playing from behind which is also condusive to more passing

Ashley Lelie is available in both of my leagues -- he could be worth a shot for those two weeks, if you're in a bind.

He seems to be getting more looks and he's averaging almost 20 yards/catch. I think he has more upside than Jenkins and I would assume he's only going to get more comfortable with the offense and Vick will only get more comfortable with him.

Maybe you catch a break and he busts off a long TD.

Sometimes that works (see Lee Evans last week vs. the Bears) and sometimes it doesn't (see Laveraneus Coles last week vs. the Jags). Normally that's a good approach but the Bears' defense is ridiculous. I like Johnson long-term as a replacement for Fitzgerald but I think he's very risky this week. If I was desperate I'd start him but I'd do a lot of hope and praying.

Baskett -- real good value if Stallworth doesn't play
I thought he just got open deep a couple times, haven't seen it "first hand". Am I wrong?
He had six targets in the game; a couple of them were balls he couldn't have caught but they were attempts to throw to him downfield. They made an effort to try and hit him deep with a big play. Twice it didn't work but the one time it did it resulted in the 87-yard TD. As hot as McNabb is right now I think whoever starts at WR right now is looking like no worse than a good WR3.

thats also because dont have to throw against oakland-i keep laughing everytime i see that stat- the only time you compare these defenses is when you want to look at the best and the worst. no team throws when they can run for 150-200 yds/game, eat up time/control the clock. just look what happened to seattles passing game v. chicago.

I went with Kelley Washington for my fill in...along with Engram. Have Roy adn Fitz both out, add a couple of byes and Horn was the only healthy receiver i had left! Considered Parker, but I am also starting LT, Turner , and Gates

Welker vs. Jets.
:goodposting: I have Driver, Harrison, Fitz, and Wilford.I had to pick up and start Welker and Furrey.Looking for big things. :bag:

I may be in a similar spot. Our pickups are done via an order so I have a bunch of WRs (most of the ones I posted in this thread) on my list but if I miss out on them I'm strongly considering Rod Smith even though I'm already starting Bell and Walker against the Raiders. But that's a great matchup and I think all of the Bronco offensive players are going to be very nice starts this week.

2 names that I think are interesting sleepers in deep leagues.

Brandon Jones - Although Wash. is a tough matchup.

And Santonio Holmes - I'm wondering with the Steelers' troubles passing if they might not try to get the speedy Holmes more involved. I'm watching him on the WW in ALL my leagues and am thinking about picking him up now just in case he blows up here soon.

I'd remove Engram from the sleeper list given this turn of events. From RotoWorld:

Bobby Engram may have a thyroid condition that could prevent him from playing Sunday.

This could be far more serious than the illness that was originally listed as Engram's reason for missing practice. If Engram is out, Nate Burleson will get more snaps.

I have 7 players on bye this week on a 15 player roster. I'm pretty much throwing in this week taking a bye at TE and Defense.

Call me crazy but if your league is real deep and you need help, bring in every Buffalo WR you can?

Parrish, Reed, Price.......big flyers but a couple of them will hit I bet.

This game has gun slinging written all over it. Hakim and Furrey should be very nice too?

I'm sure you're refering to use in week 6, but Arnez is on a BYE in week 7, which doesn't help those of us with Holt, Moose, Colston, Bryant, et al.

I have 8 guys on bye in week 7 on a 9 man starting roster (16 total)!!!!!! :o So not only do I have to start my scrubs, but one position will be empty unless I pick up someone. I've been hurt before with byes, but I've never seen this before for anyone.

Have 6 total on a bye in week 6! 9 man starting roster (18 total)...start 3 WRs.

Harrison

Jennings

Chester Taylor

Maroney

Rhodes

Winslow II

I think I hadled this pretty well for the most part, rolling out:

Brunell

S. Jackson

Musa Smith (big flyer but I'm ok with it- I have a feeling!)

Chad Johnson

Muhammad

Cotchery

Shockey -????

Stover

Denver

wish my opponent had the same bad luck but he's full strength and has a bunch of fresh Seahawks (Hass and Djax) coming off a bye!!!!

Week 6-7 is Death Valley this year!

Originally I was only looking at this from the WR angle since over half of the top 25 would be out and it's the WRs that are going to kill me in week 7. But now that you guys mention RBs, I can see where weeks 6 & 7 could be disasterous for many others.

Another factor in this mess is limited roster space. Every league is different, but most have a cap on roster space. I'm going to be looking at having to cut a guy or two that I'd like to keep, just to make room for a WR5 or worse so I have a body on the field. I'm actually starting to consider taking a ZERO at a WR slot in week seven.

:goodposting: dropped Engram for Reed. i'm totally scrambling trying to fill two WR spots.

Running into the same problem. If TE's are thrown into the equation as counting as WRs, for a one week replacement, how do you all rate:Kennison at PittGreg Lewis at N.O.Heap vs. Car (3 tds in last 4 games)Deion Branch at StL (now starting)Welker at NYJCurry at Denv
Just bumping this because I am also looking at picking up Lewis, Branch, Welker or Furrey for a week 6 Flex player. Currently got Brandon Jacobs in there and not feeling too good about it.

Lelie has been edging out Roddy White (who has been a disappointment thus far). Jenkins - who has assumed more of Brian Finneran's role - has 7 red zone targets in 4 games versus 2 for White and 1 for Lelie. I agree that Lelie has some upside as Vick can certainly air it out, but I think the better play this weekend might be Jenkins. JMO.

With Chris Henry suspended and Tab Perry out this week, I'm thinking of rolling the dice on Kelley Washington.

I can start Mark Clayton at my WR3 spot, but I'm already starting Mason, and didn't really like what I saw on Monday night.

Jacobs is a dynasty sleeper, not a current bye week guy IMO. All the talent in the world won't help V Young's 70 yds of passing - even if Jacobs manages to get all of it.Furrey - #2 in DET Welker - #2 in MIA w/ Booker hurtBranch - has upside past a bye week guy, but lots of options in SEA's pass game nowLewis - decent shot THIS week for 70 and maybe a score w/ Stallworth out and GL playing the slot.ALL are better options than Jacobs @ this point (for a bye week sub). I'd gamble on Welker after he caught 9 balls vs. NE last week = Joey looked his way a lot. And Booker is Doubtful (chest).

Hmm, Furrey is free in my league. So is Baskett and B.Johnson. I think Baskett can catch fire two weeks in a row. The Saints game should be high scoring.
