Sleeper defenses to target? (1 Viewer)

There was a good post last year on sleeper defenses that enabled me to get the Colts defense in the last round and ride them to the championship. I thought I'd one started for this year.

In my earlier draft the Eagles, Bengals, Falcons, Packers, Cardinals, Browns, Chargers were left behind. Any sleepers out of these?

While it's harder to predict FF success from a defense than it is to predict NFL success, I'll throw my dart toward Jacksonville's way.

Of these choices I like the Eagles, Cardinals, Bengals and Chargers in that order. The Eagles have simply looked to good this offseason. The talent is there and so is the scheme to make big plays. The Cardinals finished top 10 in both rushing and passing D last year and even a marginal improvement from the offense could launch them into elite status. The Bengals have continued their ball hawking ways from last season. They may give up more points and yards than any defense on your list but they are far and away the most likely to score defensive TDs.The Chargers were the #1 rushing offense last season and I see no reason that will change. If Philip Rivers can play a little ball contron, and I think he can, it should put this defense in line to be very solid. The Falcons have the talent on defense to be special but I just don't trust this team to perform week-in week-out. If ATL gets off to a good start I think that momentum will translate into a positive for the defense however if the team struggles early I worry about their ability to rally. The Browns and Packers teams are not good enough to make their defenses fantasy viable.

I took the Patriots and Cowboys defense late. Suprisingly, the Pats don't seem to be getting taken, but they had a ton of injuries last year, and had about 7 or 8 sacks last night. The combination of Pats and Cowboys works well...a combination of Miami and NE would have worked well also.

I like Dallas, but they went on the early side in both of my drafts, as did Miami. I thought Wasington and took them yesterday, but after last night.....

I also like Atlanta, SD, Phi.

I like Dallas as well. However, with the way they have played in PS I'm not so sure you can consider them a sleeper anymore. I say this as Dallas was the second D off the board in my $$$ league at 8.9.

minnesota- detx2 gbx2 chix2

ne- nyjx2 bufx2 (they might not be what they once we're but they still play in a crappy div)

probably get abused by this, but arizona has some excellent playmakers and will still be around even in a 32 team league.

Yes - all of them.So far, in the preseason, the eagles' D has looked a lot like the D of old.The bengals were near the top of the league in TOs last yearThe falcs and Cards are up and coming Ds.The Chargers have some of the best sack men from the LB spot in the entire league - and, IIRC, they were top-5 as a team in sacks.Obviously a lot depends on your league's D scoring system, but the Browns, Pack and Bengals play in divisions that often have extremely low scoring/low yardage games. They are all sleeper defenses based on your league's scoring system

Miami and New England is a great duo. After all they each get Buffalo and the Jets twice. That's 8 games taken care of right there.

Do you flip a coin when the play each other, or take the whoever is playing at home?
This is my set up, I'm planning on using the Patriots in both games against Miami. (the combo schedule, DBC)1. Buffalo2. Buffalo3. Tennessee4. Houston5. Miami6. @ NYJ7. @ Buffalo8. @ Minnesota9. @ Chicago10. NYJ11. @ Green Bay12. Chicago13. Detroit14. @ Miami15. Houston16. NYJ.

if philly is left grab them . they are my #4 defense this year . they also have a great schedule the first 10 weeks .

I really like the Chargers D this season.

They will be at the very top of the league in sacks and run D.

They have a bunch of cupcakes on the schedule to pad their stats.

I see them as a top 12 D that you will likely be able to draft in the last round of your draft.

That's VALUE! :)

I went ARZ / MIN as a DBC as their schedules compliment very well and both have real breakout potential. You won't have to pay anything for them.

Miami and New England, the perfect DBC.
;)
:lol:I'm trusting CS for better or worse on that one.
Mr. Mexico and I just drafted in the same place a week and a half or so ago and I took that combo - i'm pretty sure he was the one who said Chase would be proud of me.I didn't even KNOW it was a favored combo - I just figured how bad could it be to have two habitually decent Ds facing the Jets and Buffalo eight times this year?
