Sleeper WR pick of the week (PPR) (1 Viewer)

I have been decimated by injuries and byes this week, especially at the WR position. My first 2 picks of the draft (keeper startup / ppr) in my main league are out this week, Calvin and Fitz, both my stud WRs. We start 3 WRs in this league, as so what's left is not much. I have Crabtree who i am starting with confidence, but then it gets slim with Bowe, Golden Tate, Armstrong/Nate Washington (both available on the wires), or who i have decided to go with this week: Brandon Stokely. This is my sleeper WR pick for the week.

Here is the situation, Stokely was just signed by the Seahawks and word around Hawks' camp is that big Mike Williams is playing the 1st WR position out wide, Dean Butler is starting at the other Flanker position, and Stokely is 1st up for the slot in 3 WR sets (which the Seahawks will play plenty). Last week was Stokely's 1st chance to get on the field and he played very well, despite only being on the team for a few days. He scored 7 points in my league with 4 receptions for 62 yards. This is all while BARELY playing. You could see that Hasselbeck and Stokely had INSTANT chemistry. Despite playing so few plays, Stokely did pretty well.

Now Dean Branch has been traded and Stokely is the 1st option at the slot position. The Seahawks were on a bye last week, and thus Stokely has had 2 weeks to learn the system, what is expected of him, and to build more chemistry with Hasselbeck. Barely playing and having only a limited # of plays, he did very well 2 weeks ago. Now with MUCH MUCH more playing time, a few weeks to learn the system, I think this old timer is going to be Hasselbeck's #1 option going forward.

Sometimes you can just see the chemistry a QB and a WR have, and i saw it 2 weeks ago. I think this is the main reason that the Hawks had no problem letting go of Dean Branch, and I think Stokely is going to go off this week. Remember that the Bears have an EXCELLENT run defense, but their pass defense is actually pretty bad. The Seahawks will look to take advantage of that pourous pass defense, and Stokely will be the #1 option.

My projection is that Stokely scores 15 points in a PPR league. I'm looking for 7-10 receptions for 80-90 yards. I don't expect a TD, but that would be icing on the cake.

Now let's see what happens!

+1

I have run dry at WR with byes and injuries and that's the same guy I went with. Thing is, he WILL score you points. He won't win you any games by himself, but he won't screw you with a goose-egg either.

He was only here for a matter of days before the last game and was getting targets right out of the gate.

Yeah, i agree. The thing is that we are in week 6, so players that are currently on the waivers or are free agents, and have been here since the start of the year, are rarely going to just break out unless something changes. Maybe that's an injury which opens up opportunity for them, or perhaps a QB change, etc. But there has to be some impetus in my opinion. That's why I look for players where there is an impetus. Stokely has proven to be a PPR monster in past years, and he now is going to have the opportunity once again. Hasselbeck has also shown big time trust in Stokely.I think all the ingredients are there for a breakout type performance. Let's hope it happens!

Amendola is my pick for the week.
Well, I agree with you, unfortunately there aren't very many competitive leagues where Amendola is available. Believe me, if he was i would take him over Stokely, but i was trying to find someone that is widely available in all leagues. Stokely is only rostered in like 1% of Yahoo! leagues.

Stokely also is quite familiar with OC Jermey Bates form his days in Denver.

1) Too many other options (Williams, Tate, Butler and Obomanu)

2) Arent they on the road?

3) He doesnt even start

4) Hass is on his way out, he looks really bad right now (Whitehurst will be starting after the next loss) . . .

Amendola is my pick for the week.

Stashed Amendola Week 3. Something in my gut was saying to do so.

I own both Stokely and Butler and I don't think there are clear and convincing reasons to favor Butler in PPR over Stokely, even though Butler is listed as the starter. What has Butler shown so far this year except inconsistency? I have seen at least 1 report that states Butler and Obomanu will split time.

The other WRs are not overwhelming either. If you need to plug in a #3WR from SEA in PPR, I think it's a close call. Stokely can do as well as the other SEA WRs this week IMO.

Not certain how Amendola qualifies as a sleeper, particularly when Clayton is out. Amendola has already been a high target for Bradford and he caught 12 balls last week. Suffice it to say that Amendola v. SEA WRs is probably no contest. I think the more interesting discussion is the SEA situation that the OP identified.

Generic statement contradictory to Frank Blank so he and his avatar have to post again.

1) not many good options. No one is Hasslebeck's go to guy yet.2) Yes they are on the road. Not sure why that precludes a great performance by Stokley.3) Stokley is the #1 option as the slot WR.4) If you can see the future then there really is no need for predictions. You can just tell us now who the next WR breakout star will be.

This doesn't match my sleeper WR pick from last week-chancey stuckey of the browns. I picked him up and started him as my 4th wr due to byes, and he got me a cool 11 points or so.

I think he is the best receiver we have right now, and if mangenius realizes this fact, a decent season could be n store.
