Small controversy on a scoring matter in our league (1 Viewer)

I took over the commish duties of a league halfway through the season. In the constitution there was a rule that i and everyone in the league completely forgot about. 5 additional points for the higher seeded team in the playoffs as a homefield advantage. Well it was just brought to my attention a few minutes ago and it would have affected one of the week 14 games. The wrong team moved on to week 15 as he would have lost with the homefield advantage given to the other team. Week 15 may be affected as well as there's a close game. What should i do? Leave week 14 as is and enact it this week? Get rid of the rules for this set of playoffs? Retroactively move the correct team on to week 15, the guy who would have lost is OK with that but he's already lost this week. The new matchup would be very close. Thoughts?

hard to change something already a week old IMO. Will the MNF affect this game in way?

I'd retroactively fix everything unless you have a rule saying otherwise. Its a good idea to make a rule that all scores become final on thursday regardless of any further changes. Any owners with issues need to air them by thursday in order to change their game scores.It should never be a problem to go by the rules, which you would be doing.

Yeah, Monday games could affect it. The team that moved on already lost but the team that should have moved on is up by 15 and the other team has Briggs and Mushy left so it should be close.

Looks to me like you have to do it. Sounds like the guy most affected by the rule is on board so that's a plus.

Id call the guy who has briggs and Mush left and see what he thinks. Give him insentive to let the odd man out back into it. However it should be left up to the 3 parties involved. Tell the Briggs owner that if he doesn't let the other team move into the game than X (small) amount of his winnings will go to the owner who should have advanced. as that would be a little more fair and the right thing to do.

This is a tough call.

On the one hand, once you announced results (or they showed up on the stat service) and set the schedule for week 15, if no one noticed the oversight and complained, you could say "all bets are final" and week 15 schedule is locked in.

On the other hand, you could say the owners intended for you to make the necessary adjustments and the most important thing is to get it right, so go back and fix the week 14 scores and reset the week 15 matchups accordingly.

I'd prefer the first alternative. But I could see a league voting on the second instead.

Is there also a rule that once that the next week starts everything that happened last week is Final, like kicking the extra point after a TD even if it wasn't a TD?

We have a rule that all scores are final Wednesday at 12:00 pm unless a protest is filed to complain about the scoring. It was the losers responsibility to bring the +5 points to your attention PRIOR to the Wednesday deadline.

Move on and add the +5 points to the Home team this week.

A decision was made, he added the points to the home team starting last week. I am in the league and thought it was the right thing to do. This rule is already gone for next year.
