Smeagol's Mock Draft Bonanza (1 Viewer)

Here it is. There might be some errors. Let me know what you think.

ROUND 1

1.01 - Detroit Lions QB Sam Bradford Oklahoma

Oh Lawd. The Lions are awful. They need help on the line and everywhere on defense. But a QB might bring some excitement back into this franchise. Bradford has terrific accuracy and can throw the deep ball. Think of a young Peyton Manning, just 1/16 Cherokee. I like him over Stafford because he has some mobility. Please, just draft him for Calvin Johnson's sake.

1.02 - St Louis Rams QB Matthew Stafford Georgia

They can use an OT but Bulger has descended into one of the worst QB's in the league. Its offending how bad he has become. There is a lot of talent at the OL this year so it might be wise taking a franchise QB here. Stafford is a little slow but has tremendous arm strength. He's played in a pro style offense against SEC defenses. He might even be able Torry Holt's career. How does that sound St Louis?

1.03- KC Chiefs DE Brian Orakpo Texas

There was a point in the season where KC failed to record a sack in over a month. The loss of Jared Allen has hurt, badly. The offense is capable of putting up some points and Tyler Thigpen sort of looks decent. Chiefs need to take Orakpo here to give Hali some help.

1.04 - Cincinnati Bengals OT Andre Smith Alabama

Smith is massive weighing in over 340 pounds. He is solid at pass protection but truly excels at run blocking. Cedric Benson, meet your new best friend.

1.05 - Seattle Seahawks WR Michael Crabtree

The Seahawks need a #### playmaker.

1.06 - Oakland Raiders OT Michael Oher Ole Miss

They have their franchise QB and RB. I've only watched one game of theirs this year (the Chargers game from a few weeks ago) and their OL was disgustingly bad. Take Oher and hope he can be the player Gallery was supposed to be.

1.07 - Cleveland Browns RB Chris 'Beanie' Wells Ohio State

I'm torn here Browns fans. I think they need some talent at the DE position but Wells might be too talented to pass up here. I like the sound of Quinn, Wells, Edwards and Winslow. That's a solid nucleus to build around.

1.08 - Green Bay Packers DE Michael Johnson Georgia Tech

This guy is a 6'7 beast. Excellent athleticism and has started to put it all together this season. He will improve the Packers pass rush which has been a problem for them at times this year.

1.09 - Jacksonville Jaguars CB Malcolm Jenkins Ohio State

The Jaguars have had very little luck drafting playmakers in round 1. Leftwich, Lewis, Williams and Jones have all been disappointments (for the most part). They should just draft defense here. They've got issues with the secondary. Take Jenkins.

1.10 - SF 49ers OT Eugene Monroe Virginia

Keep Singletary, sign Cassel, bring in a talented WR, draft an OT. Boom you've just won the NFC West.

1.11 - Buffalo Bills OLB Aaron Curry Wake Forest

The Edwards injury hurt this year. The lack of a pass rush also hurt. I think they take Curry here. He is a talented playmaker who can help with the blitz.

1.12 - San Diego Chargers ILB Rey Maualuga USC

They will likely beat the Broncos and be drafting a lot later. But for now I have them taking Rey.

1.13 - Houston Texans S Taylor Mays USC

The secondary isn't very good. Mays is very good. Perfect match.

1.14 - Washington Redskins OT Jason Smith Baylor

Most Redskin fans want an OL. I can also see them going with a DE/OLB type here to replace the aging and ineffective Jason Taylor here. Smith is very athletic with excellent footwork (he started off as a TE). Most have him projected as a late first rounder, but I can see him shooting up draft boards come April.

1.15 - New Orleans ILB James Laurinaitis Ohio St

The Saints have had some key injuries on defense this year. The offense is set so I think they continue to work on the defense adding talent to the LB core. "Little Animal" might not have tremendous upside, but will be a solid addition to that defense.

1.16 - Denver DT Sen'Derrick Marks Auburn Auburn

Marks has experience playing both end and tackle. He might need to pack on some pounds to be a big run stuffer. The acquisition of Roberston hasn't really panned out for the Broncos so I think they'll grab the best DT in the draft.

1.17 - Arizona DE George Selvie South Florida

I'm torn here. I can see them taking a RB but they can't ignore how awful the defense has been. They need to go defense.

1.18 - Philadelphia OT Ciron Black LSU

I believe both their tackles can be lost in free agency this year.

1.19 - New York Jets S William Moore Missouri

A lot depends on what happens with Favre and the coaching staff. I think drafting the QB of the future is also in play here (especially if Sanchez or McCoy declares).

1.20 - Chicago Bears WR Percy Harvin Florida

Bears fans, is Kyle Orton a legitimate franchise QB? Either way I think they take a receiver here. Harvin is super versatile. He has a small frame but could make an impact similar to DeSean Jackson.

1.21 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Mark Sanchez USC

My gut tells me Sanchez declares. While Garcia has been solid, he is not the long-term answer. Sanchez can learn from the bench for a year or two.

1.22 - Detroit Lions (via Dallas Cowboys) DT Peria Jerry Ole Miss

Rebuilding the defense starts here.

1.23 - Minnesota Vikings CB Vontae Davis Illinois

Tavaris Jackson is alive and kicking so I think they pass on a QB for now. I believe CB is an area where the Vikings need some depth.

1.24 - New England Patriots RB Knowshon Moreno Georgia

Oh my.

1.25 - Miami Dolphins QB Tim Tebow Florida

Tebow might be too much of an exotic pick for Parcells, but I think Tebow can be very effective in this wildcat hybrid system. They can use him for a certain number of plays or even roll him out there with Chad Pennington.

1.26 - Atlanta Falcons DT BJ Raji Boston College

Raji is starting to shoot up draft boards. He is a large run stuffer which is terribly needed when playing in the NFC South.

1.27 - Baltimore Ravens WR Darrius Heyward-Bey Maryland

Give Flacco someone to throw to.

1.28 - Indianapolis Colts DT DeMarcus Granger Oklahoma

The Colts suck against the run. Take a DT here and hope he can stuff Chris Johnson, Jones Drew and Slaton.

1.29 - Philadelphia Eagles (via Carolina Panthers) TE Jermaine Gresham Oklahoma

He's a big target that will help pickup some first downs and score some TDs.

1.30 - Pittsuburgh Steelers OG Duke Robinson Oklahoma

The Steelers take the best guard prospect in the draft to help out that ugly offensive line.

1.31 - New York Giants WR Jeremy Maclin Missouri

Toomer is old. Plaxico is in trouble. Give Eli another target to throw to.

1.32 - Tennessee Titans CB DJ Moore Vanderbilt

I look for the Titans to add some depth to the secondary here.

2 RBs in the first and neither is Shonn Greene?
Likely what will happen, not sure why you're surprised. I've seen probaly 30 mocks and have not seen one where Greene goes higher than Wells or Moreno, pretty standard stuff. Nice niner pick and comments.

I don't think the Rams take a QB in the first they still owe Bulger alot of money. I'd say an OT in that spot

I like it. :goodposting:

Tampa homers help me out, but I believe I have read in the past that Gruden is not the type to ever draft and develop a QB. Isn't that correct?

Sorry to burst your bubble, The Rams WILL NOT be drafting a qb with the second overall pick - they're going OL or impact LB (i.e. Curry)

Tebow will be hyped and some team will probably take him in the late first, early second round.

I don't think Gruden has a history of drafting QB's early, but at some point they need to take the plunge and draft a franchise QB. What's the word on Josh Johnson? Is he being pegged as the guy to take over once Garcia is done?

There are not a lot of teams that need a RB. A guy who I like is LeSean McCoy. He might sneak into the first round if a team like the Cardinals, Broncos or Colts decide to go with a RB.

Can Bulger be released/traded? I don't know how much confidence the Rams have in him. If both Stafford and Bradford grade out well, I think they might be tempted to take one.

I love the authoritative statements on who will, or won't, be first round picks. In December.

If Matt Jones can be a first round pick as a project WR from Arkansas, then Tebow can be a first round pick. Right now, seems unlikely (of course, I only know that because Mayock, Kiper, and McShay told me that), but there are probably about 100 guys that could be first round picks, and a lot changes between now and late April.

I have not figured out if the "there is no way that ____ drafts _____" or "the _____ will definately draft a (position)" are the thing I love the most about the next 4 months of draft talk or the thing that I hate the most about the next 4 months of draft talk.

I don't see Chris Wells as a top 10 pick. We tend to focus on FFB here, and usually have the RBs rated a little high. I see a 4-way gagle for the top RB spot between Wells, McCoy, Moreno & Greene and I doubt they're picked too far apart (I'm guessing picks 12-24). You may even include Spiller in that mix, thanks to Chris Johnson. OTs will go earlier & more frequently as always. The top 4 at WR may all likely make the 1st round, though may slip a little thanks to great depth at that position.

Few things that caught my eye

#1: From what I've seen, Andre Smith projects better as a RT; he's just too stiff in pass protection and gets blown past by speed rushers. But the Bengals are a perfect fit for him. He learns the nuances of the position from Levi Jones and when Jones hangs them up, Smith can hopefully slide in. Like this a lot, even though I think Oher is the #1 prospect in this draft overall. Whatever team grabs him, and it could be #1 to the Lions, is getting an exceptional player. Inconsistent, yes, but a freak athlete and he's got a square head on his shoulders. Reminds me of Jason Peters but nastier.

#2: Love what you did with the Jags. BPA mentality, and even though we may need an OT desperately, Jenkins is as surefire as they come. Stability in Round 1 would be fantastic, given our spotty track record the past few years.

#3: No Greg Hardy or Everette Brown? These two have been beasting it up this season, and while Hardy is a real spotty player at times, the numbers he put up this season far surpass Johnson's. And that in a weak ACC where Everette Brown absolutely tore it up this season. Hardy and Brown are 1st rounders IMO, with Brown being a top-15 pick. Johnson never really had a breakout season. The seven sacks this year were the most he ever had. Go figure.

#4: I agree with you regarding Jason Smith

#5: I don't think Tebow will get a single consideration in the first round. He may be a gamer, but he throws an absolutely horrendous ball.

Saints should go defense, but ILB is the one spot they actually filled this year. I expect them to go with a safety... or at least hope they do.

Alas, my Bengals will be sliding down to the 7th pick after this week :sigh:

I'm sure the top 2 OL will be gone by then

I'm ashamed I don't know this, but do the Ravens have their 1st in '09? For some reason, I was thinking they traded it in all of their manuevering to get Flacco last season.Anyway, my knee-jerk response is to draft OL & DB until there aren't anymore but I kinda like the DHB pick. Their stretch-the-field guy - Demetrius Williams - just cannot stay healthy. But I also think DHB can be much more than a James Jett - he's got the whole package. My concern is that, if he goes off at the combine, he won't be around for the Ravens to take this late.
