Super Bowl Sunday...I turned off football, turned off the website, and went into my hole for the summer.

The only things that seeped down there was the TO mess, and coverage of the NFL draft.

What are the 5 things I need to know about the offseason so far? I think this could really help the rush of people that register for the site in the next couple of weeks.

Name your top 5. Now.

Best interior lineman in the NFL left from Seattle to Minnesota

McNair to Baltimore

Brees to NO

Brooks to Oakland

Roethlisberger motorcycle wreck

1. Al Saunders leaves KC to become DC's OC.

2. Disciplinarian Rod Marielli takes over as Detroit HC and hires mad bomber Mike Martz as OC and former Bengal standout Jon Kitna as QB.

3. San Diego let Drew Brees go to New Orleans; will start Phillip Rivers.

4. Minnesota pays top dollar for KC's FB Tony Richardson and Seattle All-world lineman Hutchinson; bring in Chester Taylor to start at RB, let Culpepper go to Miami.

5. Edgerrin James is gone from Indianapolis. Arizona did little to improve his new O-line.

1. Tags to retire ( I think that was after SB)

2. Labor Agreement reached

3. Big Ben cheats death

4. Edge to desert

5. Alexander stays put

Did it have hair around it?

1) Edge goes to Arizona and most are dismissing Rhodes in favor of the new flavor of the summer, Addai.

2) TO to Dallas, and yes, he will be a good boy for 1 year

3) Big Ben's motorcycle wreck

4) Texans pass on Bush, and he goes to NO

5) 457 Tatum Bell / Ron Dayne / Cedric Cobbs threads, which amount to nothing

So based on these items, why is everyone so down on Chester Taylor right now? Is it just people trying to de-value him? I can't figure out why Chester Taylor would not be Fantasy Gold? Anyone?

small smaple size. plus, early offseason reports were that he hadn't committted himself fully to the training program.

Top 5 K-items:

Vinatieri is now a Colt.

Vanderjagt is now a Cowboy.

Falcons hire Steve Hoffman so he can find an unknown kicker.

Patriots draft Stephen Gostkowski in the 4th round.

Josh Huston invites himself to join the Bears.

Longwell answers the question "how many points will you score this year" in FBG interview.

... yea, I know, that's actually six items

He's unproven in the feature role. It's not clear he will be able to perform at the level expected of a starting FF RB. One of the best FF adages is that you cannot win your league in the first 2-3 rounds, but you sure can lose it. Bottom line is he has a reasonably high bust potential.

i probably have 5 keeper/trade questions sitting in the ACF forum, waiting for you to answer mister !?!?! seriously, good

to have you back...

1. Athletes that lost seasons to ACL injuries are healing WAY faster than you may have thought. At this point, it sounds like nly Braylon Edwards will miss time at the beginning of the season. Carson Palmer, Daunte Culpepper (now a Dolphin), and Javon Walker all look good to go.

2. Reggie Bush didn't go #1 to the Texans. They passed on him to take Mario Williams instead. Bush went to the Saints.

3. Ben Roehtlisberger was involved in an accident where he T-Boned a car riding his motorcycle without a helmet. His health is reported as just fine, but doubts remain.

4. The Minnesota Vikings used a "poison pill" element in their contract offer to Steve Hutchinson, making it nearly impossible for the Seahawks to match. The Seahawks responded in kind with a deal involving Nate Burleson. The NFL is now considering whether to make these type of deals illegal.

5. Paul Tagliabue is going to retire.

Sorry, PM me with them.I'm joining the Coach's Corner this year--as much as I enjoyed doing my own thread, it took up 4-5 hours every week, and I don't have that time anymore.

It'll be easier with help.

Someone please explain this.

In March 2006, the Minnesota Vikings offered Steve Hutchinson, an offensive guard on the Seattle Seahawks, a 7 year, $49 million contract of which $16 million was guaranteed. This contract offer had two poison pills in it. One was the salary structure, which would require the team to pay $13 million in the first year of the contract. That salary structure would apply to both teams equally, as the Seahawks would also have to pay $13 million in the first contract year, were they to match the offer.

The second was a clause that required Hutchinson to be the highest paid player on the offensive line, or else the entire contract would be guaranteed. Since the Seahawks had another offensive lineman with a higher salary (Walter Jones) and the Vikings did not, this clause would have required the Seahawks to guarantee $49 million, and it effectively eliminated the Seahawks' opportunity to match the contract offer.

In the wake of this contract offer, similar clauses have appeared in other contract offers (including, ironically, a contract offered to Vikings wide receiver Nate Burleson by the Seahawks), and the term poison pill has come to be more closely identified with the asymetrical-impact clause.

The poison pill in the Burleson Offer was that Burleson would get a huge bonus if he played a certain amount of games in the State of Minnesota.

Then why are potential busts like Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams going so much higher?
