So you won your big money league... (1 Viewer)

Anybody that frequents this site knows fantasy football is a religion to some and even more important than religion to others. You've got to stay on top of things all year (and in the off season) to give yourself the best chance to win and offset the "luck factor" (which is usually HUGE).

To do that, you've got to be constantly focused on your team(s) and spend countless hours managing them whether it's preparing for the draft, setting lineups, monitoring injuries, talking trade, etc., etc.

So...if you won a big money league, how much did you win and how much did you "make" per hour for your time?

I won $360 and if I'm being generous to myself, I'd say I made about $2.12 an hour. :pickle:

I broke it down this way:

1 hour a day on here during the season (7 hours a week at 15 weeks) equals 105 hours

Preparing for the draft (dynasty 4 rounds) equals 25 hours

Setting lineups, monitoring injuries, talking trade, etc., etc. equals 40 hours

Total 170 hours

Others?

I won the two leagues I'm in and am going to net somewhere around a grand give or take a couple of hundred and thought about that.

The conclusion I came up with is that I would have put in the same amount of time and effort if I didn't win anything so I look at my work as pro bono and I count my winnings as a year end bonus.

this is true, i do make an insignificant amount of money per unit of time invested. I only netted myself about $50 worth of profit for third place, which would amount to less than a dollar per hour so maybe i should quit fantasy football and work part time at mcdonalds then.

Irrelevent, labor of love.
Exactly. My two main leagues are strictly trophy leagues. I get a SB ring from Jostens, a three foot trophy and a label added to the bottom of my 6 foot banner saying "Knights ~ 2008 Super Bowl Champs"
I get a hat, a nice football sized trophy and $0.17 per hour for enjoying my hobby. Won both of my big leagues in the same season for the first time.

This.Won 2/3 leagues for about 1500 total - $300 investment. time for a big new HDTV.Don't really know how many hrs., but I do not watch college ball much anymore. And the SP is almost as entertaining as it is informative.

Chances are we all play more than one league, bet on games, are in survivor pools, etc...etc.... so it's hard to put a dollar figure on the money I've won, based on time spent. But I bet it's a lot higher than the large amount of time people put in that did NOT WIN any money in their leagues.

Unless I plan to win 5 figures, which I won't, I see no reason to pay for services to get a slight advantage over others. A lot of time it comes down to making the right move at the right time, as in free agency, where there is some luck involved, depending on the format your leagues have.

Bottom-line I don't care that I make pennies per hour on fantasy football. I've been doing this for decades. I enjoy everything that there is in football. I've played the sport, coach it, used to write about it and I enjoy watching the sport. I enjoy talking sports, football in general with my buddies. At times I have bragging rights about my fantasy football team or my favorite that I root for. It's like any of those priceless commercials we see online or on television, it's a hobby that I truly enjoy, that is priceless to me.

As long as I make my entry fee back, I am happy. This year I will win $525 for a $200 entry. The amount of time I spend on this is ridiculous including a "no fly zone" on sundays where I am left alone to watch directv and track my team(continually flipping channels). It has made football more enjoyable for me than before I played fantasy football. This is a funny question since I am sure the return on investment for my time is laughable. But it's not like any of it feels like work, I enjoy every aspect of it.

For me, it's all about pride and bragging rights. Beating your friends that you've been playing fantasy football with for many years.

The money is irrelevant.

This is fun and entertaining. That's the only reason I do it. To me, it's the same situation as just sitting on the couch and watching sports for fun.

I don't play fantasy football to make some extra cash, and hence I don't stress about it either, like some other people.

It would possibly be different if I invested like $5000 in a league with a payout of $50,000. But then, I wouldn't be stupid enough

to take such a gambling risk. It's no different from going to the casino and playing Texas holdem or blackjack.

I agree with you, but I wonder why so many people consider free leagues "for fun" while money leagues are the "real leagues" or think you need to have real money on the line to "make it interesting." It's a labor of love, so the money isn't really important.

$662 for total points scored and overall champ

130ish days since draft.

Probably spent 20 min per day on average on MFL or FBG.

.25 cents per minute

Do I have to include the time I spend reading this forum while I'm at work? I'm already getting paid by my employer to surf FBG's, it doesn't seem right to count it againat my fantasy football winnings too.

It probably works out to about $1/hour but I don't do it for the money. Its my hobby that I love to do and the money is a bonus. I have a day job to make my money.

Obviously anyone on here loves FF and does not look at it as a job. (I would hope) So this is an interesting way to look at it to me as I have never really thought about as in terms of my time invested.

I play in 5 small money leagues as low as $10.00 and the highest being $50.00. I won 2 of the leagues and also High scorer in another (The 2 smallest ones sadly), I put in $125.00 and won $265 so my take home was $140.00 and I would say my total hours were similar (Maybe a little more than the OP) 175 to 200 hours, so less than a dollar an hour and probably closer to about 50 cents and hour.

But loved every minute of it.

If I got paid a $1 an hour for the time I spent, I'd be a bazillionaire. But of course I'm already super wealthy because I'm a FBG

Entry fees = several hundred dollars

FBG = 3 yr. subscription - $60 I think.

Countless hours of prep, draft, watching etc = $0 it's my hobby

Playing with most of the same guys for the last 15 years = PRICELESS!

I just know I moneyed 13 leagues including 9 championships for a cool $37,050.
curious as to how much you shelled out to begin the season?
$10500 roughly
I play in 3 leagues for a total entry fees of $160, it will take me 65.625 years to risk that much on fantasy football. You might want to check this page out: http://www.gamblersanonymous.org/
It's all relative, shred.

I know, I was trying to make it sound tongue in cheek, That's hard to do in print. I guess I should have put one of these ;) at the end.
