Also, baseball should have allow unlimited subsitutions for pitchers, but they must come from the field players. Max 3 subs in 7 innings.
They should just bat through the lineup before ending an inning. Four times through the lineup = game. No wasting time warming up or switching from fielding to batting. :cricket:

I will assume that the soccer option is along the lines of the US playing in the WC final. I love watching baseball, and would do almost anything for WS Giants tickets, but I'd much rather go see the soccer game.

FWIW, I've been to a Bundesliga game in Germany and it was one of the more amazing sports experiences I've ever had.

No, it's a European final at a US stadium. Which is totally a legit thing.

Separate from the ridiculous scenario, how many FFA'ers are actually qualified to vote on this? You shouldn't vote if you haven't attended a pro soccer game. I haven't been to one. I can imagine what it would be like but there's no way you could really know.

Think about how much an NFL or NHL game is different in person vs TV.

I don't watch either, although my son's increasing interest in soccer has me a bit biased. But........... baseball is terrible. I'd rather watch curling.

Not the same for soccer. There's constant game flow with, except for halftime, no extended breaks. One of the best sports to watch compared to what you see on TV.
I would be astounded if it is as much better in person as hockey is. Being at a hockey game is 100 times better than watching it on TV and there's no way you'd know what if you've never been to one.

It's not asking what you've been to, but what would you prefer to attend. A blank slate for both sports would actually be ideal.

I was more talking about the NFL, sorry I didn't clarify. I agree..hockey is awesome live.

The NFL is very distracting live. You really get a sense for just how much commercial interruption there is.

I've been to hockey games not sure I see the big difference.

I have been to pro soccer games, still boring. It's not my sport. I didn't grow up playing or watching. I don't have a history with it. In person, on the TV or a radio call doesn't matter. Does nothing for me.

Being at a soccer game is much better in person, but it's also harder to judge that if you were basing it on an MLS experience. I've been to a few SJ Earthquake games and while they are still a lot of fun, they didn't even compare to the Bundesliga game I went to, both in terms of quality of play and the overall experience.

Hockey is an absolutely amazing experience live as well, while I would much rather watch a football game on my sofa.

Germany is one of the best countries to watch a game in I bet. The singing, chanting...standing room. On my list of things to do for sure.

I've never seen the Tigers win a World Series, so I went with baseball. Soccer is pretty interesting to watch, thouh their fans are often legitimately insane. My wife went to Brazil before we started dating and they went to a soccer game. She had to borrow a non-blue shirt because that was about all she had, and the visiting team wore blue, and they were told that wearing blue would make them targets of violence by the home crowd.

Bundesliga games are the top in the world for atmosphere.

In MLS the only two cities that come close are Seattle and Portland.

Baseball coukd make changes to make the game more appealing to the casual fan.

-cut the number of games in half

-salary cap

-games not played from 9-5

-no extra innings

-get rid of umpires and use cameras

-must tackle base runner

-all fields same size
Union rules prevent the bolded IIRC (e.g. day games on "getaway" day where one team has to fly west)

That's a good enough reason to dislike soccer.

That's a pretty dumb comment. So, anyone who goes to Yankee stadium wearing red when they're playing the Red Sox will have nothing said to them, whatsoever? Wearing navy to Lambeau Field when they play the Bears means that the person will have a wonderful experience and no one will have anything to say to them? Dumb.

You don't like soccer, fine. To latch on to a comment like that, and try to portray soccer as the only sport that would happen in is at best very short-sighted, and at worst, downright dumb.

The mythical Euro League championship game, of course, as there will be millions more spectators who might catch a glimpse of my pretty face.

:lmao: Go to a Giants game wearing Dodgers gear and get back to me if you make it out of there. I've also heard that Raiders fans are extremely hospitable to visiting team's fans.

My GB's parents went to see that Notre Dame game in Ireland a year or so ago. They said the usher kept commenting on how slow the game was. "Bit of a slow game" in Irish accent abounds when we are watching football together.

There's a huge difference between getting beer poured on you and getting shanked.

There is a massive difference between getting snide remarks and getting hurt or killed for wearing opposing colors. For the record, I like soccer and wouldn't mind seeing more of it, but the hooligans tend to ruin things. Tone it back about 6 notches, and they'll be fine.

You see baseball as PJ and soccer as Bieber?

If you believe that then, yeah, I don't think seeing soccer live is going to bridge that gap.

More like Barry Manilow vs. Pat Boone

no. I think baseball would be more like a Jimmy Buffet concert and soccer more like a rave.

but I think I can answer based on which experience I'm more interested in without having experienced the exact same thing at some point previously in my life.

I think the best example for me - which I think you'll understand - is that hockey is so much better in person. I don't follow hockey but I've been to a few games in the past. If I hadn't been to a hockey game and only knew it from TV I'd put it on the level of baseball and give jabs about how lame it is. But I give it a ton of props for being a hell of a lot of fun to attend in person.

this thread was started in response to FantasyCurse saying that he thought 98% (or some other exaggerated estimate) of Americans would rather go watch a baseball game than a soccer game.

I can't get into baseball at all, but I don't mind seeing an MLB game from time to time in person. watching it on tv bores me more than any other sport besides NASCAR though.

I voted soccer for the sole reason that the OP clearly set up the poll to encourage "baseball" as the preferred answer.

NASCAR in person is a whole other issue. Incredibly fun, but watching on TV is a total snoozefest.
