Some inside info on Duckett to Seattle (1 Viewer)

You may or may not have heard this but Duckett wanted to stay in Detroit. He is building a house in East Lansing. He actually walked around the Lions' offices trying to get answers, but couldn't get any. Kind of got the uninterested "I don't know what is happening" response from everyone. Talked to Millen and everything was fine. The Lions hear he went to Seattle and are in the meantime are gaging his value. Seattle offers him the 5 year deal with the signing bonus and the Lions offered him a two year deal.

I'd have been gone too no matter how much I wanted to stay. Have to take the payday.

First off I hate the Lions and think almost everything they do is wrong.

However, Duckett sucks! He has never been good and every team he signes with try to make him a short yardage back. The only problem is he can't gain the short tough yards and ends up being a average to bad backup.

The 'Hawks are fools to sign him to that contract. In this case the Lions did the right thing.....(Did I really just say that?)

Every Lions fan I've heard from has wished Detroit re-signed Duckett.

That's right, the Lions are really going to miss these stats.GP Att Yds Avg TDs Fum 12 65 335 5.2 3 1 And don't start with the 5.2 average either, that would mean something if he had 200 attempts. As bad as the Lions are any one of the scrubs on their roster can replace the 335 and 3 TDs TJ had last year....(I can't believe I'm defending the Lions??)

5 yards, or even 3 would be a great average for a guy who comes in on short yardage downs. He's not signed to be the load bearer, just the smash back.

I'm not going to say how good TJ Duckett is but I will say this.....I thought he should have done better in Detroit than he did.He was decent in Atlanta. Coming into Detroit, I don't think he really fit Mike M's scheme and really didn't do much till the end of the year.I thought he looked pretty good towards the end.Now the Lions let go Duckett and cut Jones.I saw most of the Lions games last year, I mean I saw everyone one and most of every game and I can tell you that the worst back of the 3, was Tatum Bell who they kept.As a Lion, I would have probably kept Duckett and let Bell go and drafted your everydown back in the draft. What does Tatum Bell offer? What is his specialty? He can't catch, doesn't block well, gets hurt but can run fast.

I'm just glad TJ "twinkle-toes" Duckett is no longer a Falcon. If he had run with half the heart of Dunn he'd have been a great running back. His insistence on running up to the line of scrimmage and tap-dancing was painful to watch.

I liked Duckett when he first came. But in his last year I watched a game go down the tubes with 3rd and 1 to Duckett, no gain followed by a 4th and 1 to Duckett, no gain.

Bye bye, Duckett.

I'm sure once he gets too Seattle with the Timberland widerness and culture, he will no longer want to live in a crappy gheto city like Detroit.

I think Seattle is just happy to have a guy who MIGHT be able to carry the ball for a 1 yard gain when necessary. So, I would imagine their failures in that department last season played into the price they were willing to pay for a decent short yardage option who can compliment a speedy power runner like JJ.

I said this in the Detroit thread but what I do not understand is that you fire Martz so you can run more and get better balanced in your offense and then you turn around and let Duckett leave and cut Jones. You are now left with Bell. He is going to return balance to the force?

As a Falcons fan I thought he was pretty effective in the DVD offense. The running game in Atlanta dropped off in 2006 and definitely in 2007 when you take out the bruiser.

Here's a little insight as to why he would want to stay with a piss poor Lions franchise:

Wikipedia:

"Todd Jeffery "T. J." Duckett (born February 17, 1981 in Kalamazoo, Michigan) is an American football running back for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League. He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Falcons 19th overall in the 2002 NFL Draft. He played college football at Michigan State."

If you watched the Lions much last year you saw he was better than Bell.

Is this sarcasm? (honestly, I'm not sure)Saying Duckett was better than Bell is like saying a poke in the eye is better than a kick in the sac.

Perhaps it was systemic of that whole team kinda losing the will to win that year. It was about that time that Mora seemed to really lose the team.Maybe I'm wrong, I hope I am. He seems like a good kid, and I hope he succeeds. I also hope for the Seahawks sake that he learns the value of discipline from Holmgren.
