Holmgren: 'I'm not frustrated' with Jackson

Posted by Mike Sando @ 04:06:36 pm

WR Darrell Jackson and DT Marcus Tubbs won't be on the field before next week, coach Mike Holmgren said today. Holmgren had expected Jackson in particular to be back by now. Jackson (left) met in recent days with Dr. John Uribe, his surgeon, and they decided Jackson should take some more time before returning. Jackson's knee wasn't the issue so much as the corresponding muscle mass in the thigh (Holmgren alluded to this last week). Once that muscle regains its proper proportion, I suspect we'll see Jackson back on the field. This type of thing can be frustrating for an organization, but in light of what happened with TE Jerramy Stevens last week, I would not expect Holmgren to raise any objections. We have his comments on the matter below.

HOLMGREN, in comments transcribed by the team, when asked if he was frustrated with not having Jackson back at this point:

"I’ve been following it so closely and Darrell and I have talked so much about this, I’m not frustrated. He felt in his own mind that he could be ready at a certain time and it’s pretty close to the time we’re going to be ready. I thought I might have him a week earlier, but as long as I have him for the first game. He’s one of those veteran players that doesn’t need a lot of reps at camp, but the frustration comes with any of the players that have been hurt. Grant Wistrom, Rocky Bernard, any of the guys that had surgery and missed time in training camp I get a little frustrated with that. Injuries are what they are and if you rush them then that’s worse."
This tid-bit comes from the same dude (Mike Sando) that speculated using the word degenerative last week. I wish he would just stick to the facts like this has in this piece.

so the "degenerative" talk was just speculation?

Yes. He was just throwing it out as a guess. It's the sort of word that makes people take notice.
Sando gets all the info but the way he presents it at times leaves a lot to be desired. I don't care for his style or his prima donna approach to dealing with people who interact with him.

his pre-Madonna approach
 I'm guessing you meant prima donna not the girl from Detroit formerly known as Madonna Louise Ciccone. ;) BTW, hopefully we'll see DJax on the field real soon and I'm glad he looks to be OK.
:bag: Especially as an Italian speaker. However I was referring to the singer and those who preceded her in this case.

So if D.Jax can't come back healthy soon or not at all does that mean a huge year for Burleson? I picked him up in a Dynasty league and lucky for me it was my pick as soon as the move to Seattle was announced. I have seen some decent projections for him as the #2, but what could he possibly do if D.Jax can't come back?

Fodder -You picked the right name! :P Seriously, speculating on WHAT IF when this post states clearly that not only is D Jack coming back, but that his knee is stable and that he is being held out for strength conditioning, is pointless. Besides, even if D Jack couldnt come back, Burleson would still be #2. Engram would move over.

Oh, so you're not a Burleson owner then. I get it.....If D.Jax can't come back for any reason then what makes you think Burleson will not be the #1 there? He has been spending alot of time working with Hassleback since he came there and with the money they are paying him I don't see any way he doesn't become the #1.

Oh boy, Burleson's been spending a lot of time with Hasselback!! I'm sure Engram and Hasselback should get acquainted then, huh?Engram moving over into D-Jackson's spot was the correct answer here & typically you turned this into a "so you're not a __________ owner then" crap.

I don't think so. I think Engram becomes the #1. I understand why folks would assume it would be Burleson. He's getting paid more. He was the big name free agent on offense. However, I doubt you'll find a Seahawks homer that would disagree with me. Engram led team in catches and yards last season. He'll likely do it again if Jackson is a no-go. I'm still very optimistic that Jackson will be fine.

Not really. It was just a joke, relax pal. Maybe I should have put in a little smiley to make you feel better. It's just that every report I have heard is that they have put in more than normal time together working on timing. I was just curious as to how much of a bump would Burlesons numbers get. And lets say D.Jax is done for the year. Do you think Engram would put up better numbers than Burleson?
