Some Props to Tom Brady (1 Viewer)

I've never been a Tom Brady fan. In fact, I am generally anti-Patriots because I have always supported the Colts side of the Colts-Patriots rivalry over the years.

I recognize the Patriots as a great team and Brady as a great Qb of course; he just wasn't ever a favorite of mine. But this year, I have been watching some teams that have just genuinely disappointed me. Teams that, although I am not a fan of, I watch with interest because I think they have a lot of talent and (dare I say it) potential. Teams like the cowboys, Texans, and Chargers, that I jsut keep finding myself shaking my head at in disbelief that they have blown it, yet again.

But I have to say, while watching that game last night, Brady earned some serious credit with me and all of you Patriots fans out there should be very proud of your team. I was bowled over by how in to that game he was last night. It has been a long time since I have seen a player on a team (outside of Ray Lewis) that was so clearly leading and willing his team. That wasn't "rah rah" stuff or disingenuine "want" out there last night from Brady. That was all REAL and you could tell how much it meant to him for his team to come back and play better last night and win that game.

So, since I (and so many others) seem so quick to jump on here and tear down the underachievers and gripe about how this guy and that guy ruined our fantasy day, it seems deserving that what, to me, was one of the best performances of the year, should be recognized. Fantastic performance last night and I hope the Colts-Patriots game is just as good.

Marty Schotty said this morning on Sirius NFL Radio that it was the best game he’s ever seen out of Tom Brady.

Do we think Brady can be counted on as a top level QB1 down the stretch, or was he just posing for the lights?

I would say yes, easily, if brady maintains that focus he had last night. It reminds me of those moments you sometimes see in a sports game where you know, IN THAT VERY MOMENT, "uh oh! Someone just woke the sleeping giant!". That was the feeling I had last night. It reminded me a lot of the old Bulls teams when the Knicks or Pacers or Pistons, or one of the rival teams would slap the Bulls around for three quarters and then there would be this deifning moment where Jordan would do something and everyone in the building (on both sides) would be like "That's it! Its over! Game on!" and then Jordan would just kick it to another level. If Brady plays like that, they are going to be tough. Its probably not to be overlooked that it appears that their line is finally back into place. I don't think I saw Brady under durress once last night and, as we all know, if you can't pressure a guy like Brady, you're in for it.

I expected the Pats to play hard, given their drubbing the week previously. I thought the Steelers looked in disarray (well, mostly Roethlisberger).

Brady has always commanded the huddle well, and always looks to me like he's giving it 110%. So I dunno.

That the Patriots allowed Pitt to come back in the 4th doesn't make me expect great things moving forward, but that's not on Brady it's on the defense.

Roethlisberger wasn't sharp early but came on later. A large part of his problems were dropped balls and being under duress.Brady on the other hand won't need to send his uniform to the cleaners this week. He ALWAYS destroys the Steelers by realizing what most other teams don't. The Steelers defense is difficult to run against and their pass defense is entirely dependant on a pass rush. If you can get rid of the ball quickly you can easily move down the field becausea) the Steelers DBs give a big cushion.b) the Steelers DBs (other than Polamalu) aren't very good.Brady & Belichik know this and have employed it to much success against the Steelers. You would think the Steelers coaching staff would have figured it out by now but last night there they were again dropping LBs back in coverage, giving nice cushions to receivers, and dropping both safeties 20-25 yards downfield. For reasons I do not understand they kept their best defensive weapon away from the action for nearly the entire game.None of this is to take away from Brady. He is a master at what he does and he played a perfect game last night

Brady played great, and he's a gamer for sure, but does he have to whine for a flag every time he's touched? If he ever gets hit in the backfield he gets up immediately to go lobby to the nearest ref. The act gets tired.

In a game full of great competitors, Brady out-competed them all last night. I too am looking forward to the Colts-Pats matchup; should be a good one.

There's a reason QB's do this, and Brady is not alone. If you're not in a ref's ear after a questionable contact, you ain't doing your job.

That is no different than most WRs who throw their hands up looking for a flag almost every time a DB makes a good play on a ball thrown to them. Just like the refs throw flag on DBs for almost anything, they will throw a flag if you breathe on the QB sometimes.

Pittsburgh's MO is to physically take it to the other team. If you can match that (and many teams can't), you have a game. The rest is match ups. Sometimes your style just plays better against others NE does against Pitt (6-1 with Brady and around .500 with Bledsoe). Other teams don't match up well NE vs Denver (shanny) is always difficult for NE as is Miami.

The emotion last night was great. I've never seen him like that. It seemed like he could do whatever he wanted. Thanks god I stayed away from the liquor cabinet so I can actually remember what happened last night.

I guess I see most WR's as Divas and expect it from them. I don't expect it from the QB's. Yes, I see other QB's looking for flags but if you watch Brady you'll notice that he looks to the ref every time he's touched. Call it gamesmanship.........I guess. :goodposting:

Did he go to the refs after the Harrison hit near his knees? I honestly don't recall, but it seems like you're making something out of nothing here.

January 6, 2010Tom Brady on officiating: 'I'm begging for preferential treatment'Tom Brady had a little bit of fun with the media today on his conference call with Baltimore reporters. Asked if he felt like he was unfairly criticized for lobbying for two roughing the passer penalties in the Patriots' 27-21 win over the Ravens earlier this season, Brady joked that he'd take whatever the officials would give him if it would help New England win. "Oh, I'm begging for preferential treatment if they'll give it to me," Brady said. "I just don't think they'll give it to me all the time. So I'm trying to butter up to those officials before the game and during the game so that we do get a call once in awhile. If it helps our team win, I'm all for it." Brady's quote, though clearly in jest, is likely to make Ravens fans blood boil, considering the way events unfolded in the first game. Two New England touchdown drives were kept alive when the Ravens were flagged for roughing the passer, including one where Terrell Suggs was flagged even though it appeared he barely grazed Brady's thigh. After letting the ball go, Brady looked at the official and pointed to his leg, then pumped his fist when the flag was thrown. After the game, Brady's former teammate, safety Rodney Harrison, suggested on NBC's highlight show that Brady "take off the skirt, put on some slacks and toughen up." Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs both criticized the officials after the game. Whether or not Brady gets favorable treatment was a hot topic Wednesday with the media from Boston and Baltimore peppering the players for their opinion. Brady has laughed it off, for the most part. "I think everyone has the right to feel how they feel after the game," he said. "That stuff never really bothers me much, who says it, whether it's an old teammate or an opposing team. It's just part of the game. We as players don't make the rules. When calls go for us, we're all happy. When they go against us, we're pissed off. So in the end, that's just the way I think all of us are made up."

So, because he made a joke about it you're upset? I don't understand what this does to prove your point. All good QB's work the refs, but not on every play. Brady wasn't touched all that much last night, and even on a night like that he didn't complain every time.Honestly, why does this bother you?

I'm not upset, just think he should go into politics after his NFL career.I guess you don't notice it as much as I do when I watch the Pats.....which isn't much since I live in the Midwest. But when I have seen them I can't help but notice that dude can work a ref and won't hesitate to get whatever he can to win. His own ex-teammate told him to take off his skirt.

I think it took them a few weeks to figure out life post Moss - Brady looks like hes back and I think hes solid top 10 down the stretch.

i think what the Patriots have really figured out is that most teams either stubbornley TRY to run on the Steelers or they think that they can run "just enough" to open up play-action on them and that will work. But it seldom does. The Patriots, on the other hand, do the opposite. They immediately establish the pass and flood multiple receivers into the short zones and force the Steelers to call off the dogs and drop back to defend those zones. That ends up neutralizing the pass rush which ALSO keeps all those backers out of the running lanes (which allows for some modest running room). The Colts do it too against the Steelers, usually with Dallas Clark. So, to me, it was no surprise that the Pats TE got all that action last night. Seems very effective. Of course, not many teams have a Brady or Manning type that can actually pull it off.

I think I was most impressed with that 3 yard run right up the middle for a TD.

I mean, a lot of QBs will sneak it in from the 1 yard line, but that almost looked wildcat-ish.

Seriously? You were bowled over by the fact that he cared? Is that what this has come to, that we we should proud of Brady because he cares? So, you can be completely outplayed by rookie Colt McCoy, come back the next week and scream a little bit and be deserving of a thread saying how great you are?

Yeah, because he played extremely well AND ACTED LIKE HE WANTED TO WIN, something you don't see go hand in hand a lot these days. Its called being resilient, not resting on your laurels and, in general, giving a Sh$t. I can't really tell if you are a Brady Hater or a Patriots fan that is stinging over the fact they got beat last week by the Browns but either way, its not warranted. Every team gets beat. Teams don't always play well. But it IS a very good thing to see guys that actually play with commitment and passion and its completely fair to give a guy a pat on the back for a job well done. Our only reason for existence in these forums isn't just to tear down the guys/teams that disappointment us when our Fantasy teams lose. It IS ok to be positive and not just negative.

I also generally hate the pats and Brady is a little hollywood for my taste.

But the guy is one of the best ever at QB. When he had the talent (moss) he set the record for TDs. When he has garbage, he spreads it around and finds a way to win. That whole BB/defense stuff is looking a little overrated at the moment. The Pats D has been #### for a good 5 years. BB is still a great coach but it's becoming clear Brady has been a huge part of their success with and without a defense. People used to talk about all the advantages Brady had with BB, the defense, the systems. Brady plays outdoors, indoors and he just wins, no matter who he's playing with.

Great game, the playoffs this year are going to be awesome.

I will preface this by saying I am a Pats fan, but Brady has been a great leader for a long time. Last night's game was the most animated I can recall seeing him in awhile, but he has always been one of the more vocal guys on the team during a game.

And I would say that that kind of leadership is Exhibit A why I think guys like Romo and Cutler will never win Super Bowls. They have all the physical tools, but neither is a leader of men.

It is strange how this has become the go to comment from so many people. I don't recall ever hearing people say "Get a haircut Polamalu", to him or anyone else in any sport for that matter. Why is it such a big deal with Brady?

You mean the crying he did when he took a double forearm cheapshot to the back of his neck from Lamarr Woodley?

I'd like to remind people, and I think you'd hear the same thing from both brady and belichick, is that the pitt game was not only one week, it was last week.

what you saw in that game was just one nationally televised glimpse of why brady has had such a great career, and now it's time to move on to this week's game.

just like it'd be foolish to throw dirt on him (them) when they stink it up one week vs cle, I don't see any reason to crown their asses after one good game vs pitt --- let's keep some perspective.

I don't know why you brought up the Chargers when making this point. Philip Rivers shows more "want" in every drive he's on the field than most quarterbacks do in their entire careers.

Not that one. I think he was actually crying for real after that hit.

Is there no middle ground? Go from having a WR that gives you 25 TDs, and without that it's garbage? Come on.

Brought up the Chargers in general, not Rivers in specific.
