for me, Dukes is hard to listen to because he just seems to like to hear himself talk. even if he's making good points i drift off cause he's annoying. making his points while saying less might do him some good.
This. The only thing he loves more than his own voice is patting himself on the back - in his own voice.I honestly can't think of a single former-player-turned-pundit that I like.
Baldy / Sterling on AFC/NFC Playbook are great but I'm sure I'd sour on them if I had to hear them every night.
Heaven on TV would be a set that only had Eisen and Mayock. Throw in the chickies for eye candy, in short stints.
OH BULL####!
this is such a trite complaint that can be lobbed at anyone. Is there anyone on TV, especially in the realm of ex nfl athletes as commentators who doesn't like to hear himself talk, think he's the shiznit? Really?
I think people just don't like that Dukes truly 'keeps it real' and often offers a viewpoint that is pro player, largely due to the fact that he is a former player and has that perspective. In todays day and age of agent/player rep team spinning and regurgitation of the same old rehashed cliches.
the keys to today's game are gonna be turnovers, big plays and whichever teams has the will to win etc. Pure blather. :yech:
Instead he often offers key insights on techniques and the inner workings of the game, especially in the trenches. He offers insights into the minds of today's NFL athletes, which surprise surprise is a lot like Dukes. Egotistical, pampered, spoiled and self righteous. It comes off even morseo since most NFL analysts/TV suits etc are all such kiss asses trying to keep their 'contacts' open so they can get scoops early and whatnot... enjoy. I'd prefer some analysis from a former player, who isn't PC at all and will 'keep it real' when discussing the intricacies and subtexts that is the backdrop behind the game that we all know and love.
The same could be said in many ways for Irvin, but he's not nearly as smart or insightful as Dukes. But again it does offer insight into the minds of the FL athlete, and you can see how these athletes can have huge holdouts/make such colossal asses of themselves at times if they surround their selves with yes men who won't ever say a negative thing to or about the spolied athlete.
case in point some nerdy white dude I never heard of is giving his take on 'how training camp is' sounds like he might be reading a press sheet given by the team, but with zero insight into what is going on truly on the field. "you see plaxico and mark sanchez talking... building that relationship" (which the next announcer chimed in is 'fascinating' to watch "it almost looks like he is explaining the plays to him

)
I'll take a dukes who would say "the players re psyched because they don't have to do 2 a days this summer and only need a week of training camp, that's why they are smiling. But then the OP et al would find that smug. I find it informative.
Oh and then nerdy white guy starts quoting rex ryans tweets about his new tattoo. WTF? Is this Tiger Beat??
