Songs for dead friends (1 Viewer)

At my Uncle's funeral last week my dad played "My Way" sung by Elvis for his little brother. I choked up just writing that.

Nice little morning coffee project. Truckers edition:

Space City - Cooley's grandmother, from the perspective of his grandfather. One of the best songs you will ever hear.

When the Pin Hits the Shell and Do It Yourself - mutual friend of Patterson's and Cooley. Each wrote one and obviously they were not too happy with their friend for killing himself.

The Living Bubba - Gregory Dean Smalley

Two Daughters and a Beautiful Wife - Harvey family of Richmond

Dress Blues - high school friend of Isbell's

Grand Canyon - Craig Leiske

Little Bonnie - a cousin Patterson never met, but family, so. This one's brutal.

Also can't forget Neil Young's "Tonight's The Night" and "The Needle And The Damage Done", among others.

Good call. They are about guitarist Danny Whitten and roadie Bruce Berry

Can also add Neil's "Sleeps With Angels", or the whole album of the same name, for that matter. All about Kurt Cobain, who quoted Neil in his suicide note.

DBT also frequently covers "People who Died" live.

Also thinking Ain't Wasting Time by the Allmans, for Duane, and Back on the Chain Gang by Chrissie Hynde for James Honeymoon-Scott.

Wow, pretty weird seeing this thread after losing a close friend of 30+ years this morning. I'm not sure what song would be the best for reflection as I'm still taking it all in.

Great tunes, though I was going for songs written for friends. Jason never knew Danko and Manuel.
