SOS in 08 (1 Viewer)

I guess its pretty simple, they are in the same division as the Bills and the JETS and the Dolphins, all who had bad records last year. They get to play them all twice. I guess also that the division their division plays has a relatively poor record.

They play the AFC East, AFC West and NFC West. They also play PIT, @IND and @SD, because they're the division winners. They have the earliest possible bye week (week four), which kind of stinks, but it's also right before a two week road trip through San Francisco and San Diego, so they should be rested. And while they play the Colts in Indy, the Pats will have seven days' rest while the Colts will be coming off just six days.

It won't matter as The Pats will have yet another stellar year only to be defeated by another Cinderella team...ending their season...I'll take the Titans this year.

AFC South is in for a tough year (although it's probably influenced by them all having to play each other and the worst team in that division being 8-8 last year.)

They also get Minnesota, Detroit and Chicago so they do get a little bit of a break. AFC South is easily the toughest division right now though.

That's kind of funny. The AFC title game teams get the league's easiest schedules...while the teams they had to beat to get there have two of the hardest. Pittsburgh, who lost to Jax, is rewarded with the hardest.

But NE has two sets of back-to-back trips to the west coast. That will not be easy. They probably travel the most miles this year.

The schedule is a template that they developed years ago. No one can complain about who they get or don't get to play, as there is no decision-making in the process and all teams rotate the same scheduling format. It's all prepackaged.

If the Patriots do indeed have the easiest......they deserve it. I thought there regular season schedule last year was pretty darn tough and am still amazed at their run.

The Pats SOS will be slightly artifically lower because they don't play themselves and 15 other teams have to factor in the 15-1 game against the Pats this year.

Steelers have it bad though.

Bill cheated to somehow get this easy schedule :loco:

who cares. SOS doesn't mean automatic wins. It isn't meaningless, but it isn't everything. And yes, the first response to this thread hit it right on the head

 They had the 3rd easiest pre-season rank last year.
As stated before, pre-season schedule rankings are meaningless. How did their schedule compare at the end of the year?
8th easiest according to what I can find off google.

Not a Pats fan or anything, but their division wasn't exactly stellar. Combined they were 12-36 last year! That factors in greatly when they get to play these 3 teams twice in '08 and every year...

Pats opponents had an average .469 winning percentage (120-136). Even if you go with an SoS that excludes games played against the team, which helps the Pats more than anyone else since it takes more losses off their opponents than it does anyone else, they still only had a .500 schedule.

For all of those complaining about the scheduling...there are ONLY TWO games left every season that are not set in stone YEARS in advance, and those two are determined solely by where you finished in the division. It has been this way for serveral years now, so get over it. A great record no longer gaurentees a tough schedule, and vise versa. It never really did before, but now it does that even less. The Pats have an easy schedule because of how putrid the rest of their division is, and how poorly the west fared last year.

Even funnier is how worthless the preseason SOS rankings are to begin with. Many "gimme" games in April look very tough come October/November. (AND VICE VERSA)

Don't overanalyze the opponents of your team at this stage.

That's why it's "kind of funny" and not "illegal/immoral/a conspiracy."

:goodposting: If want to blame anyone for the Pats easiest schedule blame the Jets, Bills and Dolphins. As a Steelers fan I kinda like the schedule. First off you get to see some great games. Secondly if the Steelers make the playoffs they will have certainly earned it playing what appears to be the toughest schedule in the NFL.

:wall: Just rolling my eyes when the media is talking to people/players #####ing about the schedule. Exactly like you said, only 2 games aren't set in stone so why the complaining. Some teams have to play tougher divisions this year than others. If you want to complain, about the only thing you could ##### about is how much/far you have to travel or that you have to play a game in England, etc...

:goodposting: Seriously, it is like some people have no clue how the NFL works.

They play the AFC East, AFC West and NFC West..... They have the earliest possible bye week (week four), which kind of stinks, but it's also right before a two week road trip through San Francisco and San Diego, so they should be rested.
Those road trips may be overblown as well. According to this Boston Globe article, the Pats may not even be making four trips - just two:The consecutive West Coast games open up the very real possibility the Patriots will elect to stay and practice out West for a week rather than crisscrossing the continent four times.

If the intention was to make it more difficult for the Pats (you conspiracy theorists!), it may not make much difference.

this is often the case. When the Chargers play in London the week before they are in Buffalo.(i think) They will fly from Buff to London bet on it.

I'm surethe pats requested that two west coast games be back to back to limit the flying

Kudos to the AFC Central and AFC South for placing all their teams in the top-10. Goes to show how competitive these divisions have become lately and the quality of the AFC. The South division is the best in all football. Kudos to the Texans for their turnaround. I think its more likely than not that the AFC south will all have winning records this year.
