Star Blazers Live Action Movie Trailer (1 Viewer)

Need a "Who's Hotter: Cosmic Heroine Edition" poll...

I'm sure someone will subtitle the movie and release it in the USA like the Godzilla movies made since 2000.

Steven Tyler did a song for the movie.

Watched this tonight. I was pretty happy with it overall. The visuals were very true to the series. Obviously they couldn't fit the entire plot into a single movie so some changes there.

Only complaint was while the special effects looked pretty good, there were a lot of times they encountered Gamilas ships but they never actually show them. Saving on special effects I guess.

If you're a fan of the original, and/or of the animated reboot, I think the live action is worth watching.

Saw a copy of the Blu-ray at Best Buy and grabbed it.

The animated series reboot you can find streaming online if you google for it. I don't recall seeing the live action movie anywhere though or I'd have watched it already.

Right here on Amazon. Just ordered it myself. I grew up watching the original series. Used to watch this at 6:30 in the morning along with Adam West's Batman and the original Spiderman cartoons (you know the one with the famous song, Spiderman, Spiderman does whatever a spider can...)
I used to watch it in the morning as well. Went back and tried to watch the original animation again as an adult and... oof it was rough to sit through. Definitely check out the new animated one if you haven't yet.

I have seen this movie 3 times with my daughter and we love it. We are both big fans of the old Star Blazers.

For anyone who likes the old Star Blazers and likes this live action movie, I highly recommend you watch Space Battleship Yamato 2199. It is a retelling of the classic storyline from Star Blazers Season One but with all updated animated graphics (it was made in 2012).

26 total episodes, some new characters(more females) and plot lines and over all was extremely well done.

There were very few episodes available to buy in the US but you can easily torrent them with the english subtitles.

Can also just view them streaming for those who don't want to deal with peer to peer stuff.

I saw this on an airplane a few years back. Brought back childhood memories, but was just okay. Its on YouTube, but whoever put it there left out the climax.

Streaming on Netflix, Amazon or what?

I don't think the show is available on commercial sites. Every episode is here (see link below), the subtitles are just average though from what little I have sampled.

Thank you for this thread. This is a christmas present all of it's own. Loved the show. Wanted to name my first child Derek when I was a kid because of this show.

Just a note for those going to watch Space Battleship Yamato 2199.

The first few episodes are almost identical to the original series but then plenty of new plot lines and characters come in to add some new depth to the show.

We've been watching this all day. Thank you again, I can't explain to my kids how cool it was for me to see the Wave Motion Gun firing in the live action film. So. Badass. For what seemed like years (but was just months) when I was a kid, this was the entire world to me. I drew Yamatos and Black Tiger fighters and Gamalon ships in school every day.

Back when we use to cover our school books in brown paper bags, I would draw the same things. My favorite part was having the beam from the wave motion gun go from the front cover, across the spine and onto the back cover as it was about to destroy its target.

Yes, I'm not sure which site I watched it off of, but just google the show name and "streaming" and you'll find multiple sites streaming it for free. I hooked my laptop up to the TV via HDMI and watched the series that way.

Awesome to hear. Someone else first made me aware of the new series and the live action in a TV show thread, so glad the bump paid it forward.

I wish I could like this post a second time.

I have been watching these and they are AWESOME. It is the old Star Blazers, but the graphics are completely updated.

I've had no problem listening to these in Japanese with English subs. Much less than I thought I would actually.

I am glad you are enjoying it.

The story starts out almost identical to the original story line but will add plenty of new twists to keep it some what fresh.

My daughter and I just finished up a second run of Yamato 2199 this summer and last night we watched the live action movie.

We enjoyed both as much the second time as the first.

Already have the movie but I tried to find the blu ray of the series just now after telling someone about it. Holy hell. It's at least 7 volumes, and one volume by itself was listed at $90 on Amazon!

I was fine buying it even though I knew I could get it for free. But if the distributor is going to set ridiculous prices like that...  :pirate:

So there's a 2nd season that's out for it, Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2202 / Space Battleship Yamato 2202.   Can't find any blu rays available with English subtitles or voice.

I have found episodes 1-6 and 10 online with English subs, and found 7 and 8 but only with Portuguese subtitles.  Anyone know a site that sells or streams it?  @NewlyRetired?

Also, there is another film coming out of what is a 7 part series, though like the rest probably only releasing in Japan.

4th Space Battleship Yamato 2202 Anime Film Previewed in 60-Second Video

posted on 2017-12-15 14:15 EST

4th film in 7-part series opens January 27

The official website for the Uchū Senkan Yamato 2202: Ai no Senshi-tachi (Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love or Star Blazers 2202: Warriors of Love) anime sequel project began streaming a 60-second promotional video for the fourth film, subtitled "Tenmei-hen" (Karma Chapter), on Friday. The website previously streamed a 30-second version.

The film will open in 29 theaters in Japan on January 27, 2018 and run for three weeks. Certain digital outlets will stream the film starting on the same day for a fee. Similarly to the previous films, the theaters screening the film will sell a limited-edition Blu-ray Disc. The normal Blu-ray Disc and DVD release will ship on February 23, and digital rentals will start on March 28.

New cast members include:

Kouichi Yamadera as Desler

Kouki Uchiyama as Miru

In the fourth film, the crew of the Yamato suspect that there is a spy on board. The Yamato also reaches Telezart after many trials, but a defense fleet led by Gorand, as well as survival land war division are waiting for them.

The project is a seven-part theatrical anime project, and the first film, subtitled "Kōshi-hen" (Starting Chapter), premiered in Japan on February 25. The second film, subtitled "Hasshin-hen" (Departure Chapter), opened in Japan on June 24. The third film, subtitled "Junai-hen" (Pure Love Chapter), opened in Japan on October 14.

The anime's story is set in the year 2202, three years after the Yamato's return from the planet Iscandar. The people of Earth restored their planet with the Cosmo Reverse System, and they signed a peace treaty with Garmillas. In addition to reconstruction, Earth developed a new defense fleet that includes the state-of-the-art battleship Andromeda. The Earth goes down a path of military expansion, despite Starsha Iscandar's wishes. The Yamato helps accomplish this so-called peace, but it comes at the price of many invaluable sacrifices. The goddess Teresa, who prays for tranquility in space, calls the Yamato to a new voyage. The threat of Gatlantis is sweeping over the universe and approaching Earth.

Nobuyoshi Habara (Fafner and Fafner EXODUS director, episode director and storyboard writer for Star Blazers 2199) is directing the new anime, and Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC original novel writer, screenplay for Harlock: Space Pirate) is writing and overseeing the scripts. The late Yoshinobu Nishizaki is credited with the original work, and his son Shoji Nishizaki (Star Blazers 2199 planning, producer for Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection) is the executive producer. Additionally, Makoto Kobayashi is serving as assistant director, and Junichirō Tamamori and Yasushi Ishizu are the mechanical designers. Nobuteru Yuki is the character designer, and Akira Miyagawa is composing the music.

I will look around and see what I can find.

Both @GregR and I love the new version of this show.

Season 1 was excellent.  The first couple of episodes will feel similar but then it branches into new story lines compared to the old 70;s show we all enjoyed as kids.

I have not yet watched any of season 2 and it is being released very slowly.

Looks like the next installment, episodes 15-18 (use Google translate) hit theaters in Japan May 25, and blu ray release June 22.  Then probably another couple of month lag while Central Anime adds English subtitles (the blu rays don't have them) and they start showing up.

As a kid, I liked the Comet Empire season better than the Gamilons one.  Glad they are remaking Comet Empire.

P.S. is Crunchy Roll good/safe?

Edit: I see that Funimation carries the first series and episode 1 of the second series.  Any experiences with this?  It's  $6/month and is Chromecast-compatible.  Seems enticing.

Yup - legit, legal, etc. Ad supported (non-skippable commercials 2-3x an episode), unless you pay.

Had forgotten about this - just watched the first episode of 2199 - very much in!! Now if they'd only remake Battle of the Planets
