By the way, I know we are talking up the new animated series but the live action movie was a lot fun too.Holy f. I have some watching to do.
buy it or torrent it. If torrenting, just make sure you get the subbed version.Where can I find that?
OMG. A Smoo siting? I must be in a dream. Miss me some Smoo.Where can I find that?
I loved the original series but even on DVD the quality is gone. The 70's version was never remastered.Sweet J said:@NewlyRetired and @GregR:
I was just telling my son about this, and we watched the first 5 minutes of the original 1970s version on YouTube last night. It was great, but he thought the animation was a little cheezy. I really want to watch the reboot with him!
Do either of you have suggestions for watching the show? Should we go back and watch the original first, or just skip right to the reboot? If we do the reboot, do you have suggestions for how/where to get it? (I don't even really know what it's called, it's so unclear). I don't mind paying big money to just order it from Amazon (look at me!).
Or should we do the live action movie first, and then the series?
Any suggestions welcome (from anyone) welcome. Help me Obi Wan, you're my only hope!
awesome! Then always do subtitles if you get the chance. Thanks guys. My son is 17, and doesn't mind subtitles at all (he's burning through a lot of anime on Netflix at the moment, which is what made me think of this).
I'll look at both the movie and the updated series.
yes!Episodes 15-18 of season 2 are available online now. Japanese audio, English subtitles.
First season's Part 2 blu ray releases here on Nov 06, 2018Found this on Amazon. Looks like they are releasing a blu ray / DVD combo of the first season. It is listed as having both English subtitles and dubbing. The stuff online just has subtitles.
Part 1 drops July 31 for $50. It's 325 minutes, which at 25 minutes an episode would be 13 episodes, which would be half of the 2199 season.
Haven't seen a release date for Part 2.
Best Buy preorder has it for $47
This is an absolutely phenomenal remake of the 70's version.Just got Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199 - The Complete Series on Blu Ray and am enjoying on my new 4K TV!!! So great!!
Highly recommend!!
I grabbed these episodes a while ago but I have not watched yet. When I first got these, I had assumed this was the remade Bolar Wars season (Starblazers Season 3 from when we were kids), but in reading the description I don't think it is.New set of episodes, based off a previous movie! Sequel to season 2 / 2202.
Space Battleship Yamato 2205: A New Voyage (Uchū Senkan Yamato Ni-ni-zero-go Aratanaru Tabidachi), also known as Star Blazers 2205, is a Japanese military science fiction animated film duology produced by Satelight and Staple Entertainment. It is the sequel to Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 and a remake to the 1979 film Space Battleship Yamato: The New Voyage, originally based on the Space Battleship Yamato television series.
If anyone is struggling to find it, hit me in PMs.
Apparently 2 movies split into episodes 1-4 and episodes 5-8.

I had the same impression. I think my expectation was too high for the second season because the Comet Empire was sooooo good in Star Blazers. I did not think the remake was as good (where as the season 1 remake was extremely good imo)I'm going to have to rewatch season 2. It's not as good as the first season in my mind, and not sure if I even finished it. But I want to go through it for the full context before watching the new ones.
