Steakumms (3 Viewers)

Steakummms huh?

Too peppery for me. My roommate used to eat those, as you said, twenty-five years ago. Contra your assertion, I think once you’ve had a Philly cheesesteak you can’t really have a Steakummm ever again and not be teasing yourself with bite upon bite of disappointment.

Little cheese drippings of sadness and lament.

eta* don’t let me bind up your party, though. I hope you enjoyed every morsel of malcontentment you could mawkishly muster

oh I don't disagree, but I'm 3+ hours to philly and no real good cheesesteak places nearby. So I generally do without, but tonight.....we party flat and frozen!!

I don’t blame you one bit. Enjoy the goodness.

Mom and the kids are out of town, dad is left home for the night to fend for himself, and I decided to jump wayyyy back into the "unhealthy things I ate 20 years ago" archive and bring home a few boxes of Steakumms and some nice, thick hoagie rolls

They did not disappoint. That is all.
lol, forgot about these, basically like thick sheets of paper disguised as meat. Loved them, probably a great example of one of many things I ate as a kid that are the reason why as an adult I have diverticulitis. :ROFLMAO:

Oh man, I haven't eaten meat in almost 30 years, but honestly, I would place Steakumms up in like the top 10 or 15 things I would immediately eat if I started eating meat again. The ****ing nostalgia. In high school (early 90's) my brother and I would come home stoned as **** and destroy some Steakumms together. So good but probably actually definitely so bad

My wife bought me a box two weeks ago as a nostalgia thing since she and my daughter were having something for dinner I didn't want, and like OP, they did not disappoint. I firmly agree with all the good and bad comments in here, but I enjoyed my flashback - the hoagie bun was a good one and I made everything (including some sliced onions I prepped) on the Blackstone. The meal was straight fire, as was my backside the next day.

could you imagine having a Blackstone back in the Steakumm hey-days!!

last time I had a Steak-umm was about 10 years ago - they were a treat when I was a kid.

didn't remember the stink - but yeah they did stink, and they fried up to nothing and created a "lake" of grease in the pan

was very disappointed

Steakumms & Elios pizza were staples in my youth. Haven’t had either in 20 plus years. Going to pick up both this week for nostalgia
I liked Steakumm as a kid but I just can't get over the smell and the specific grease taste it has as an adult.

Elios, on the other hand, I've had multiple times as an adult and enjoyed. Somehow the cardboard-style taste still largely works, even though you'd never confuse it with good pizza.

Guys, I love cheesesteaks and steakumms have their place but, for real, buy the legit shaved ribeye, season it correctly, grill on a Blackstone or similar flat top with fried onions and a good sharp American cheese (Cooper, if possible) and you got an actually delicious cheesesteak.

A subpar roll will ruin it

The bread is just as important

Agreed. But those of us in other areas of the country have to do our best. I still enjoy my homemade cheesesteaks even if I' just resorting to the local bakery's hoagie roll.

*Oddly, I enjoy them as well with the bit pricier brioche hot dog buns.
