Steelers OC Bruce Arians Retires (1 Viewer)

I guess I'm not as fired up about drafting a guard at 24 unless he's the next Alan Faneca, a true difference maker. Maybe Decastro is that. To me guard is a position that can be developed more easily than most other positions, I think back to Carlton Haselrig (undrafted) and Justin Strzelczyk (11th rd). I was looking at the guards on the Pro Bowl teams this year:

1st rounders: Logan Mankins, Davin Joseph

3rd rounder: Marshall Yanda

4th rounder: Jahri Evans

5th rounder: Carl Nicks

Undrafted: Brian Waters

Mendenhall is not going I be the answer if they go this route. You have to wonder with rookie salaries going down if they'd be willing to make a move for Trent Richardson. That also being said, OLine must be the main priority this offseason.
With all the holes/age problems we have on this team, there are actual Steeler fans wanting Trent in the 1st round?!! (sidenote: I think Trent is the bees knees)
He would be tough to pass up if he fell that far especially considering Mendenhall is in the last year of his contract and will likely start the 2012 season on the PUP list. But the Steelers need help on the both lines, at inside linebacker and defensive backfield.
Call me crazy, but I don't think they need to spend a high pick on DL or DB. They have tons of young talent waiting to step in. Hood and Haywood look very solid. KLewis and Cortez Allen are making moves. DT is the only real position of need among those. I'd still rather see OL (shocker!) or ILB. And even I would not pass up Trent Richardson if he fell to #24.
Agreed, and I dont see a NT worth spending a 1st round pick on this year either, and the DTs are too undersized for a 3-4. My best case scenario would be to sign a FA OG, then draft an OT or ILB (Im hoping Cordy Glenn or Donta Hightower). Of course Kiper has us taking the NT with our first round pick.I wouldnt pass up Trent if he drops to #24 either, but I dont even see him dropping out of the top 10, let alone getting passed up by teams picking late teens-early 20's like Jets, Bengals, or even Lions possibly.

Some years the top guard in all of college football doesn't get drafted til the second round or even the third round. I haven't read any breakdowns for this coming draft about guards to know if the top one will be available, but I love the idea of any team drafting the top player at his position regardless of round. I'd even have a hard time barking about a K if he goes on to play 15 years and is a first rounder.

DeCastro is the top OG and is very likely to be a top 15 pick...Guy I mentioned earlier Cordy Glenn is a G/T as is expected to go late teens to mid 20's.
