Steelers release WR Hines Ward (1 Viewer)

This is a fantasy football board, of course the majority of the people here only look at stats, whether it be discussing fantasy or real football. Kind of funny actually.

Actually that's selling the people on this board MASSIVELY short.We've had intensely detailed conversations about Hall of Fame possibilities on this board for nearly a decade, and some of them have been more thoughtful and detailed than anything I've seen on any more general sports or NFL related site.

I've read them too, but I am going to have to disagree some with you. While I too have seen great discussions among some of the people here regarding HOF credentials, it never fails that most of the talk among most of the posters revolves around only stats.
 
I can see Peter King pushing Ward REALLY hard in about 10 years. And I really feel like King has one of the more dominant voices in the room when they're voting on these things.

A lot of people are going to get behind Ward when he comes up, for the simple fact that voting for Ward "says something about you." You value hard work, determination, hard-nosed play, and toughness. I put that in quotes because it actually says nothing about you, but people will probably feel like it does. The way he played the game is what I believe ultimately gets him inducted.Thanks for indulging some second-person writing there. You don't see that too often, do you? ####, there it is again.

Peter King is 55. There is a decent chance that he won't be involved by then. Heck, he might not even be alive in 10 years.
 
Regarding the HOF, the one phrase I get tired of hearing is "he'll probably get in, but he doesn't deserve it"

If someone gets in, then that means they deserved it. You don't stumble into the HOF on accident, you're chosen among a large group. That means the representatives of the HOF have considered it and determined that you deserve it.

There is not one single player in the HOF who did not deserve it.

Being awarded something and deserving it are two different things. "Hello Dolly" beat "A Hard Day's Night" for best record; did it deserve it? Did the Carpenter's "Close To You" deserve to be nominated for best album over Led Zeppelin? (Not to mention Carole King the year of Zeppelin IV). Did "How Green Was My Valley" deserve to win Best Picture over "Citizen Kane" and "The Maltese Falcon"? Russian ice skaters?The HOF process involves voting. Like anything involving voting, it will be inaccurate and susceptible to politics. The idea that the result must be correct because it is the result is absurd.

He was the greatest leader, as a WR, I ever saw. He showed up every year to training camp and put white tape on the front of his helmet with "Ward" printed on it. He practiced (and led by both example and vocalization) like he was a rookie trying to make the squad each and every year for 14 seasons.

All reports are they will simply offer Wallace the 1st round tender ($2.7M). If another team makes him an offer, I dont think they match it if its anywhere close to the $9M a tag would beKemoeatu also cut, freed up $4M+ more space I believe
