Steelers/Vikes (2 Viewers)

Interested to see exactly why Washington is the #3 WR over Sweed. Interested to see if M'hall is doing more running & less thinking. Like Golden Mike Tomczak said, will the D look any better than the end of last season.

To this point, I've been pleasantly surprised by the effort of the O line. Not the doom & gloom that some predicted, but this should be a good test.

Vikes D came to play and looking nasty...this is what I expected...

On another note, the O looks like garbage, although I cant complain as much considering we are without our starting QB and top 2 WRs...?

I have ADP and think he will take a huge step back this year. Only way he has another year like last year if Jackson gets better. Teams have one plan, stop #28.

If ADP played the Steelers 2 times a year, he wouldn't be a top pick.

I disagree. I don't think Mendenhall was as big a threat to steal carries between the 20's as some thought.

Mendenhall will be brought along slowly.

Oooops!!!!!!!!!

I'll choose to say lol. Mendenhall hasn't done squat all game. One run worth mentioning early in 2d half and that was it. Oh don't forget coughed it up (twice).

I only saw 1/2 plays by Parker but thought he looked OK.

I would say that we have taken nothing from a fantasy perspective from this game
Are you kidding? Parker gets a HUGE bump!Coaches don't play guys they can't trust.
Parker did nothing this game.. Mendenhall fumbled twice.Parker knows its only time.
Fixed
Mendenhall also ran for 15 Times for 79 yards, while the vet ran 10 for 18.Sure he fumbled twice, but he is young and will learn. The guy has alot of ability and will be replacing Willie soon.

Yeah that 1.4 yard per run was good.

Considering both did nothing while the startering D was in Id say the 2nd half yards Mendenhall got were meaningless, but his fumbleing isnt...

You need to get your eyes checked.

As a Holmes owner I will not play him against teams with a good pass rush like MIN. Big Ben is not going to get him the ball under duress. Noted for the regular season.

I don't like what I've seen from the Steelers. We're gonna get murdered this year with that offensive line.
I didn't like Ben's statement that the Vikings DL did some things that they were not expecting. They got pressure with only 4 guys not with some exotic blitz packages. Their OL coach has got to go and now.

the silver lining is the Pitt doesn't play Minnesota, they play lousy defenses like Houston, Browns (2x), Cincy(2x), Ravens(2x)..and some tough opponents, but its not all bad.. :lmao:

Agree. I didn't like what I saw from the OLine either, but for a silver lining -- outside of playing the NYG I don't think we're going to see a better front 4 all year than we saw last night.

People that draft Mendenhall with this idea are going to be disappointed. Parker is the starter and, barring injury, will remain so for the 2008 season. Mendenhall was drafted to take some of the load of Parker, not to replace him (at least not this season).

:goodposting: However I would have like to have seen Starks get some reps at RT with the first team over Willie Colon. Colon really doesn't impress me.

Colon REALLY needs to be playing guard. He's a mauler, and has an edge to him, but he just can't handle guys in space consistently enough to be playing outside. Simmons looked fairly lousy, again, to me. That contract is the only thing keeping him in the starting lineup, IMO. Didn't see anything noteworthy, good or bad, out of Kemoeatu either. Not sure why the idea to move Colon inside and have Starks play RT has seemingly been scrapped. Neither one of the guards has shown me anything that makes me think they shouldn't have any challengers. At least it looked like Hartwig was able to not get automatically shoved backwards every play, a la Mahan.Max Starks has gotta be the luckiest, fat, SOB on the planet. Sounds pretty nice to get $7,000,000 to sit around and watch Steeler games for a season. Cuz it looks like that's what's going to happen. I've never been the biggest proponent for Starks, but I'd have to believe at this point that trying him at RT and Colon at one of the guard spots(likely RG) is worth a shot. Should have already been done, IMO. Only reason I imagine that it hasn't happened yet in games is because maybe Starks is dogging it in practices. Who knows?I know the Vikings starting DL is great, but that effort last night looked far too much like most games last season: 3 steps back and Roethlisberger is running for his life.

They both looked like crap against the (IMO) best front 4 in the league, with a top-flight MLB to boot. M'hall's good runs were after halftime, so are not comparable to Parker's. Steelers front 7 looked as good as the Vike's front 7. If it's anyone but your stud RB facing these two teams, bench them for someone else.

A lot of people seem to forget that Mendenhall was drafted by the Steelers because he was the best player on their draft board when it their time to pick. If Mendenhall had been drafted before the Steelers pick they would have gone in a different direction with their 1st pick. I'm sure he will be used quite a bit this season but he was not drafted with the intention that Parker needed to be replaced as the starter.

They have tried him as the goal line back in camp but he has not been effective in that role so much so that Parker will get the majority of goal line carries if and until Mendenhall show he can produce in that role. His lack of ball security so far will make it difficult for the coaches to trust him in that role and it may be a while before he gets the opportunity.
